Chapter Hundred-and-Forty
**Third Person POV**
“Kidnapped? What the hell do you mean kidnapped? You're talking about my nieces here. How the hell did you lose them?” Napoleon demanded.
George was sick of the hypocrisy. Napoleon had helped him in killing Rowan and his bride, Marilyn, who was his sister. He had supported maltreating Regina and sending her off and now he was angry that the twins had been kidnapped. He hated Napoleon deeply; he hated all hypocrites. At least, he was not a hypocrite.
He had killed his wife and two sons because what he was going to achieve was more important than family. He had only teamed up with Napoleon because he had thought the same was true of him. Now he just couldn't tell anymore. The man had been willing to kill his twin sister but was reluctant to role his daughter into their plan and was angry because he had lost the twins. What right did he have to be annoyed anyway?
“What's done is done. We need to think of a way forward,” replied Alpha George.
“We? No, no. You need to think of a way forward. If you do not find the twins…”
“What would you do? huh?” George retorted. He had had enough of Napoleon's condescending attitude.
“You dare raise your voice at me?” Napoleon was furious and he was seeing red, that was all he could see right now.
“And I dare do this, you bloody bastard!” George shouted and stabbed Napoleon In the stomach before disappearing from sight.
Napoleon stumbled over in pain. He had not seen that coming. He had never imagined that the wretched child he had raised up to become someone relevant would have the guts to betray him like this but he should have known better. George had always been a snake; he was a snake and he was going to show him hell. He was going to ensure that George did not get away with this.
He would make sure of that if he lived to see the next day.
**Emily's POV**
“An assassination attempt? That is ridiculous. I… Who tried to…” I could not believe what Tyler was telling me. Someone had tried to kill my father. Of course, the goal was to end his life and consequently his reign but the time was not right for that. Besides, if things were to happen faster, I believe Harriet would have told me something.
“Someone fatally injured King Napoleon. Harriet did not send you a letter because she was afraid the same person might be after your life too,” returned Tyler.
“That is insane. Why would the same person… Oh my goodness. It may be Alpha George,” I looked from Tyler to Thoma In horror.
The other day, I had returned to the hospital only to discover from overhearing a doctor's conversation that the twins had been sent under. Of course, it was possible that the twins they had been referring to were not Reginald and Charlotte but it was very likely.
“Why would he do that? Without Napoleon it is very unlikely that he would be successful,” said Thoma.
“His flimsy powers must have gotten into his head,” was my response. He must think that since he could appear and disappear at will he could do as he pleased. It was good though to know that my father and George's relationship was over. If they were divided it would be easier to take them on.
“Alpha Dagen has about two weeks before descending under. Let's hope he doesn't get there when it's too late,” said Tyler.
“Did the letter mention what's happening at home right now?” I asked Tyler.
“I just told you… your father has been…”
“I know… but who is running things at home?” I wanted to know. I hoped that things back home were not in chaos.
“The ministers are thinking of appointing some war chief while your father gets better…”
“So they overlook Harriet and decide a war chief is better? Harriet is royalty and she's alive. Why would they give it to a…”
“Em… there's nothing you can do…”
“I'm going back home,” I replied.
“Going back home? Em, there's nothing you can do to…”
“There is a lot I can do back home. I am only useless here. I cannot help Regina and I cannot help the twins.”
“Em…”
“I did not build a reputation as the cold princess for nothing. I am going to return home and set things right. I am going to preserve the throne for my niece. I will not allow some war chief to sit on that throne.”
“How do you intend to…”
“You are returning home Thoma, are you not?”
“Actually…”
“Then I will find another ship.”
“There will be no need for that.”
“Good.”
I left the two of them afterwards to go and check on Sandra in the hospital. My father had said nothing about a new heart for her. He could not because he had been injured severely but I had to do something about her. She did not have very long to live and honestly I did not care. Although, I was curious about her relationship with my father.
“Sandra, you're awake,” I said with a smile as I entered her room.
“Oh, yes, my lady.”
“Father is Uhm… Father is injured. I sent him word about you but he was hurt before he could send a response,” came my response. Basically, I was giving her her death sentence. Father was the only one who could afford a thousand souls for her.
“I understand princess. When do we leave?” she asked me.
“We? Sandra… without the heart, you won't last long outside the hospital,” I said I'm response.
“I want to die at sea and not in hell. Throw my body into the ocean.”
“Can I ask you something?”
“Of course, Princess.”
“Father was always so nice to you and Uhm… is there a reason he values you more than most people?” I had observed that it had been rather strange.
