Chapter Hundred-And-Eighty-One

**3rd Person POV**

George checked his body for injuries. He had been badly wounded by Dagen. Since the towns in his pack were being pulled down, he no longer had access to the souls that fed his energy. He was hungry for blood but there was none he could get in this dreary place. His weakened state was also a result of Princess Eris' assault. It was thus becoming increasingly dangerous for him to remain in the underworld. However, before any of that, he had to contact Nydia. He had sent her here to find the twins and hopefully, she still had the good sense to be scared of him.

He found her in the dregs of the palace, washing plates and staring into space like she had lost her mind. She was alone too which was good for him. He approached her and sat in front of her but she did not seem to notice his presence at all. George blamed himself; he should have established contact with her the moment she had gone under.

He snapped his fingers in front of her eyes but she did not respond. He took some water and splashed it on her face. He saw her pupils react a little which told him she was still there. He sighed in relief. He shook her father vigorously until she came out of her drowsy spell.

“I brought you here to look for the twins and not to wash plates,” George uses a firm voice devoid of weakness.

“Who are you?” she asked absentmindedly. George cringed. Had she really lost her mind? Was she now useless to his cause?

“Stop pretending like you do not know me,” spat George but Nydia looked at him with empty eyes.

“Are you my bad uncle? Edvin said you're dead,” replied Nydia. George threw his arms up in frustration. Nydia was no longer herself. He knew people lost their senses coming here but he had not expected that to happen to Nydia.

“Nydia? Are you playing with me?” George asked, looking at her eyes as though searching her soul. He came up with nothing; she had truly lost her senses and there was no way to fix her. He stared at her for a long time wondering what he could use her for. Slowly a smile creeped upon his face as an idea formed in his head.

It was not until Dagen confirmed that Regina was indeed missing that it occurred to him he did miss Regina dearly. All this time he had spent in the underworld, he had stepped away because of Lucian. However, he still cared deeply about Regina and his wolf Kane did not fail to remind him of his feelings. His new mission was thus to locate her, tell her the twins were not with George and return home with her. He believed the twins were no longer in the underworld.

“She was meant to be resting, was she taken away?” Dagen's voice was accusatory as Regina had been recently kidnapped because of Lucian. Lucian understood what he was implying but he was not offended.

“I am doing everything in my power to find her. My people will let me know when they have something. I urge you not to panic,” Lucian did his best to calm his friend down but he himself was not calm. He was hoping that Prince Aegan and his camp had not tried to steal Regina again. He could only imagine the despicable things they would do to her. They could even use her as leverage.

Soon word came to Lucian but it was not about Regina; it was about Prince Aegan who had just declared himself ruler of the underworld.

Meanwhile Regina stood in front of the small cottage she had received intelligence that two children had been seen in recent times. She had to take into account of course that recent times here could mean fifty years ago in the ordinary realm but it was still a lead worth following.

She knocked on the door and waited for a response but received none. She knocked again, making up her mind to break the door open if she received no response this time.

This time, a voice from inside the house asked her what she wanted.

“Please allow me in and I will tell you my purpose for being here,” came Regina's response.

Rowan could not believe it. After all these years he could hear the voice of his daughter. He could not see her face from inside but her voice was so much like Marilyn that his eyes became wet.

When the door was opened, Regina was hit with deja vu. She had seen this face somewhere only that she could not recall where.

Rowan could tell that she could not recognise him. He did not blame her at all; he had been absent from her life before she was born.

“What brings you to my abode?” He asked her when all he wanted to do was hug her. However, he did not want to scare her off by coming across as creepy.

“I am here to inquire about some children that have been spotted here,” while the man seemed nice she remained on alert. This was still the underworld where no entity could be trusted.

“Children? Do come in and have a seat,” said Rowan.

“I am not interested in playing guests. Do you have the children or not?” asked Regina. Her tone was not polite at all. If this man had her children and was playing stubborn she was going to deal with him. How she would do that, she did not know yet but she was going to deal with him.

“You would not have an answer if you remain outside my house. Come in, will you?” Rowan asked with a smile.

Regina stared hard at him before entering into the small house.
