Chapter Two-Hundred-and-Eighty-Nine

3rd Person POV

The fully turned zombie smirked at them. It was twice as tall as any of them and twice as big; it had hair all over its body and its fangs jutted out dangerously from its mouth.

The three of them however showed no fear. They drew out their swords and watched the zombies carefully, waiting for them to make a move.

Out of nowhere, a spear struck the werewolf. The three were surprised and looked back briefly to see Prince Kristoff standing there. Charlotte rolled her eyes. Kristoff did not have to risk his life for her. Whatever they'd had was now in the past and she did not appreciate him being clingy. However, that was the least of her worries at the moment. The zombie appeared enraged by the spear that had brushed its body.

It opened its mouth wide and let out a shout that echoed around the cave in spite of the ruckus in the cave.

Its attention was focused on Kristoff who had thrown the spear at it.

Before it could make a move, Charlotte hit the zombie with her sword but it did not pierce its skin instead her sword broke in two.

The trio exchanged a look.

This was going to be one long fight.

****

They had all heard the shout.

Ashton had heard it too and he wondered where that had come from. He was not aware that any one of his zombies could make such a fearful noise.

What the hell is happening?

The next thing Ashton knew was that all his zombies including the ones he had not commanded to block the entrance of the cave were now swarming into the cave.

“WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING? YOU BASTARDS, IS THIS A MUTINY?”

Ashton screamed but the zombies suddenly had a mind of their own and would not listen to him.

What Ashton did not know was that the zombies had a new leader: the ultimate zombie.

****

“Where are they all headed to?” demanded Lord Edvin. One minute they were fighting zombies and the next second they had stopped fighting them and were instead running towards one singular direction.

“They're headed for them,” King Armand said, fear filling up his throat.

Without saying another word, they followed the herd of zombies to where they were going.

****

“NO!” screamed Charlotte as a swarm of zombies surrounded Kristoff.

The ultimate zombie smirked; it appeared to be thoroughly enjoying itself.

“Charlie! No!” screamed Harlin as he and Reginald tried to stop Charlotte from running after Kristoff. But the anger that coursed through her body made her strong enough to push their hands away and as she made her way towards Kristoff who was struggling to get the zombies off him, she hacked her way with the remaining half of her sword.

She was able to get to Kristoff in time but not without the zombies doing some damage first. Kristoff seemed exhausted already and was on the verge of collapsing.

“You fool! Why did you come here?” she asked when she got to his side. There was no time for a response as another zombie pounced on them.

Charlotte became a killing machine. Reginald and Harlin, encouraged by Charlotte's determination, began killing zombies left and right.

Thomson may have turned into a fearsome creature but the creature had inherited his cowardice. It simply watched as zombie after zombie lost their heads to the swords of the trio.

The Ultimate zombie screamed again and more zombies flooded in.

****

Alpha Dagen and the others who had followed him to rescue Charlotte fought their way through the swarm of zombies. When they saw the famed trio they were in awe. The three of them were like a killing machine as they gutted zombie after zombie.

“What is that?” Lord Edvin pointed at the zombie that towered everyone else.

“I don't know,” replied Alpha Dagen in confusion as he looked in the direction his Beta had pointed.

“Whatever it is, I don't think it's going to die so easily,” said King Armand.

Regina arrived at the battlefield on Jude's back. He was in his full dragon form and he had flown to the cave with hundreds of the other dragons.

****

If Ashton had thought that his war was doomed, he knew that it was finished for him when he saw the cloud darken with dragons.

However, it was not over.

This was just one battle he had lost.

He would be better prepared next time.

****

The Ultimate Zombie had had enough. It was time to finish this battle.

It saw that Kristoff was already seriously injured so it approached the vampire.

However, Charlotte and the rest, seeing that it had moved from its spot, surrounded it. They were not going to allow it to overcome them.

“Aim for its eyes or its nostrils,” shouted Lord Edvin.

It was exactly what they did. They targeted all the soft spots on its body but the zombie only became infuriated. It still remained standing.

“Let’s bring this war to an end,” everyone turned to look at Regina.

“Mother? What are you?”

“Ask questions later son! The dragons are over us and they will burn this place to ashes. I need you all to leave now,” commanded Regina.

“We have to…”

Regina waved her both hands towards the ultimate zombie and it froze in its place.

Questions ran through everyone's mind but it was not the time.

“My mother!” hurled Harlin and veered deeper into the cave.

“Leave now!” screamed Reginald and they began to leave the cave.

However, as they reached the mouth of the cave, Charlotte recalled that Harlin had veered deeper into the cave in search of his mother.

“Harlin!” screamed the twins at once.

Charlotte, who had been holding Kristoff, dropped him on her father's shoulder and ran with her brother into the cave in the direction they had seen Harlin go.
