Chapter Two-Hundred-And-Sixty-Nine
**3rd Person POV**
Even worse, he could be beheaded for trying to seduce the Queen. It would not matter then that he was Elder Thaddeus and he was a man looked upon with respect; he would be killed.
“Then I must take my leave, Your Royal Highness,” Thaddeus tipped his head low to acknowledge her royalty and then attempted to leave the room but she blocked his path.
“You go nowhere until I say so. I give the orders here and not you,” replied Queen Agatha.
“Your Royal Highness…”
“Call me Agatha,” she demanded.
“Are you determined to end my life? Is this your revenge?” quipped Elder Thaddeus. He hated how dangerously close Agatha was. He could feel her breath on his skin. He tried taking a step backward but was stopped by Agatha who held him in place with her hand. He could feel her fingernails digging into the skin of his back. He had to end this madness now before it was too late.
“Please, you must stop this. If anyone sees us this way, they will misunderstand and my head will surely suffer for it. Is that what you want?” asked Thaddeus in a soft voice—a voice that had once upon a time got Agatha to do whatever he wanted. She had fallen in love with his voice even before she had fallen in love with him.
“I don't think I could have made my desires any clearer. I want you to suffer Thaddeus. I can imagine it now, you in the gallows. Everyone would be there to witness…”
“Since I'm going to die anyway I might as well tell you my mind. You cheated on me with a vampire. I saw the both of you in the field that way, you couldn't have moaned louder if you wanted to,” spat Thaddeus. He was tired of being the bully as she had so said all these years. He was tired of being the villain in this story.
“Why did you not confront me about it? That was my twin sister you…”
“Twin sister? Twin sister? Really? You're going to put the blame on someone who is non-existent?” cried Thaddeus. He just could not believe this woman. That day, he had walked in on them, he had been heartbroken. His folks had warned him that a vampiress was bad news but he had been crazily in love then. He wanted only to be in her arms. He could not think of any wrong she could do. He had told his parents that it did not matter what anybody said, he would marry her. Things had not been so ugly between werewolves and vampires then. Queen Emily's pack had been their meeting point and he had made up his mind to leave his pack and move there so he could marry Agatha.
“Non-existent? What do you think of me, Thaddeus? I have a twin sister,” said Agatha.
“What is the point now? Why can't you let the past be?” cried Thaddeus.
Because… because…” but Agatha was stomped for words. More than a century had passed already but she had never stopped loving Thaddeus.
“I can prove that I had a twin sister,” she said.
“Had? Why am I not surprised?”
“I had a twin Thaddeus!” she insisted.
“And you never thought to tell me about it?” quipped Thaddeus.
“It never came up in our conversation,” returned Agatha.
“You need not prove anything. We're both happily married now. There is no point digging into the past,” said Thaddeus. What was done was done already.
“Happily married? You had a happy marriage?” quipped Agatha with tears in her eyes.
“I have a happy marriage,” returned Thaddeus.
“You mean had, your wife is dead, Thaddeus,” she said.
“What does it matter to you? You married a king,” said Thaddeus.
“Who has more concubines than my fingers? Armand doesn't love me,” said Agatha with tears. If she had not been the queen, he would have held her in his arms and comforted her. But as it were already, he was already in enough trouble if he was seen with her like this.
“Well, I need to take my leave now,” said Thaddeus as he left the balcony. She made no attempt to stop him this time. However, when he opened the door to enter his room, he saw King Armand standing there. Thaddeus thought that his heart would leap out of his chest. More than anything, he feared being labelled an adulterer.
“Your Majesty?” Thaddeus' face was white as the King's face was on his bed. His bed, unfortunately, looked very rough. He cursed himself a little for not being very neat. Why had he not made his bed yet?
“Elder, so you have trouble sleeping? It seems as though you toss about a lot,” commented King Armand.
Thaddeus cringed within himself. This was obviously a setup. Agatha had done this on purpose. He could not believe that his entire life was about to end and so far away from home at that.
“Are you okay?” asked King Armand, noticing the bead of sweat on Thaddeus' forehead. He did not have to answer the question because Agatha walked into the room just then.
“Armand, I told you…”
“I give the orders around here, Agatha. You will leave this room now and never attempt to bring an innocent man to his death,” said King Armand in a firm voice.
“You do not command me, Armand. We have…”
“Equal rights? Only because I made it so,” said Armand.
Thaddeus did not like that he stood in between them. If things became physical he would be at a disadvantage. He wanted to yell that he was just an old man now and they should let him go but their voices only grew louder as they argued further.
“You will leave this room now,” commanded King Armand who had had enough of Agatha's bossiness.
“And if I do not, what will you do about it?” questioned Queen Agatha.
