Chapter Fifteen

Diane led me to the carriage that was waiting for me. When I entered, I saw Dagen and Nydia seated already. They looked annoyed.

“What took you so long?” questioned Nydia, irritably.

“I apologize, my lady,” came my response because I was in no mood to escalate the situation. I just wanted my peace of mind.

“You've kept us waiting for…”

“I already gave my apologies,” I said before Dagen could say more.

“You dare to cut the Alpha off mid-speech?” she quipped, her voice drowning in disbelief at my attitude.

I had been dragged out of bed unexpectedly. While I was happy that I would finally get to attend a ball, I was disappointed that Nydia had come along.

She was stunning of course; she had on a green silk dress that accentuated every curve on her body. The dress had a deep that cut through her cleavage. She had fair clear skin that reminded one of daisies. It was easy to tell why Dagen was so all over her. I could not compare her beauty to mine at all.

“Sweetheart,” Nydia moaned and I rolled my eyes.

“Love,” Dagen replied to her.

I watched in utter disgust as the both of them shamelessly touched each other. They even began to kiss and it appeared as though they had forgotten my presence altogether.

“The bitch! She's doing this on purpose,” screamed Raven within me.

I glanced over at the kissing couple and shrugged.

“Stop them! Stop them!” she screamed.

“What am I supposed to do? pull them apart?” I asked, sarcastically.

“Something! Anything! Is this not killing you?” she said.

“Not really, I'm used to this. Harlin rejected us, remember? There's no point fighting one's destiny. I believe this is my fate,” I was rather tired not just physically but mentally too.

“Your fate? If it's your fate, it is not mine!” she protested.

“It's a pity we share the same fate, isn't it?” I replied, sadly.

“If you cannot do anything, then I will,” she said.

“What shall you do?” I asked, my inner voice fueled with sarcasm.

The carriage was filled momentarily with a deep growl and I saw my Ravens claws burst through my fingers.

“RAVEN” I called her to order and she gave a cruel laugh within me.

But her strategy had worked. The couple had pulled away from each other and they were both staring at me.

“What was that about? Are you okay?” asked Nydia as though she were worried about my health.

Nydia was the perfect bitch. She knew how to pretend perfectly. Her question to Dagen would sound as though she cared for me but I understood the undertone. She was vexed that I had disrupted their tongue tango.

“I am fine, my lady,” I returned with a smile.

“I am not fine you blockhead. Tell her to leave your man and find her own mate,” cried Raven.

This made me chuckle.

“I do not think everything is quite alright with you, you ought to see a physician or some such thing,” said Nydia. Her eyes stared at me as though I was mad.

“I am fine. I remembered something amusing,” I said by way of explanation.

“Mind sharing?” questioned Dagen who had been quiet all this while.

“It's nothing important; just a childhood memory,” I replied and I was tempted to laugh again for the lie I had just told. My childhood has been filled with pain, nothing else. I could not remember a single incident that has brought a smile to my lips.

They said nothing to this but they did not resume their kisses. Instead, they held hands while Nydia fiddled with the necklace she wore.

It was the same necklace I had toiled the day before to find.

She caught me staring at her and she gave me a smile that told me I could look at her all I wanted but I could never be her. She wanted me to be jealous of her but she did not have to do anything to elicit such feelings from me.

I was jealous of her already; I wished that I could be…

“What the fuck? You want to be that bitch?” Raven called me out on my emotions.

“I never said I wanted to be her,” I rolled my eyes.

“But you are jealous of her, are you not?” she demanded.

“You are jealous of her too,” I threw it back at her.

“I am jealous that she is with Dagen but I do not envy her; she is not more beautiful than we are, she is…”

“There's no use, Raven. Nydia is a beautiful woman. I do not like her but I will not deny that fact.”

“You are more beautiful than she is,” came Raven's response but her assurances meant little to me. As an extension of myself, I expected her to say such things.

“Doesn't that comfort me?” I said.

“You are more than this Gina. You know what I think?” quipped Raven.

“No.”

“We should run away, if Dagen cannot see your worth, he is not worth fighting for.”

“Where shall we run to? We're stuck. Dagen will not reject me as his mate,” it was rather frustrating really. I was not sure why he was doing this. Why not let Nydia bare his heir? Was there something else that I knew nothing about?

“Will you let him kill you then? When you do have his heir, will you let him end your life and have Nydia raise your child?”

I pondered about the question but I had no answer yet.

I had not run away just to be killed. My life might be miserable but I wanted more than anything to live.

The carriage stopped just then.

Dagen helped Nydia out of the carriage but I dared not hope that he would do the same for me.

I waited a while though, I had observed that when there was only one man in a carriage he would help all the ladies out of the carriage.
