Chapter Two-Hundred-And-Seventeen

**3rd Person POV**

Reginald did not doubt Lady Lowell's words. It would take someone with a keen eye and a refined sense of style to notice the earrings he had seen earlier. From the way she dressed to the jewellery she adorned, it was clear that she had impeccable taste.

Lady Lowell was a petite woman—delicate in frame, with a slender figure and a graceful posture. She was not the kind of beauty that immediately took one's breath away, but rather the kind that became more captivating the longer one looked at her. Her features were soft and refined, her dark eyes carrying a quiet intelligence, and her lips always seeming on the verge of a knowing smile.

She wore a gown of deep sapphire blue, the fabric shimmering under the glow of the chandeliers. The dress was adorned with intricate beading, each tiny gem catching the light like stars scattered across the night sky. Silver embroidery wove delicate patterns along the bodice and sleeves, forming the shapes of trailing vines and blooming flowers. Tiny pearls were sewn into the sheer lace that lined the neckline, adding a touch of elegance. The sleeves, though long, were made of the finest, nearly transparent silk, giving the illusion that they barely rested against her arms. The skirt flowed gracefully to the floor, its layers of rich fabric swaying with every step she took.

Around her neck, she wore a string of opals, their iridescent glow complementing the subtle shimmer of her dress. Her hair, a soft chestnut brown, was swept up into an elegant yet effortless arrangement, a few loose curls framing her face. A delicate hairpin, encrusted with tiny sapphires, was nestled among the tresses, completing her ensemble with understated sophistication.

She was a vision of quiet luxury, the kind of woman who carried herself with effortless grace, never needing to demand attention—she simply earned it.

And Reginald was hooked. He could not stop looking at her even though he knew she belonged to another. In just that brief moment, she was becoming like a bad habit. He doubted he was going to ever recover from her beauty. He knew then that no woman would ever hold him in awe like Lady Lowell did.

“The thought alone will suffice,” Alison smiled kindly at Lady Lowell; she turned her attention to Lord Lowell and said, “If you will excuse me, Lord Lowell, I have promised this time to my nieces.”

Lord Lowell smiled but made no attempt to leave. Alison raised an eyebrow at him. What could he possibly want now? Was he going to shove his gift in her face?

“Your Royal Highness, if I may?” he quipped. Alison tightened her hand in a fist to stop herself from exploding in anger.

“What is it, Lowell?” she asked him.

“It concerns Lord Harlin's journey to the kingdom of Dome. If it is not too much trouble, I would like to be a part of the Prince's entourage,” Alison had to give it to Lord Lowell, the man had guts.

“Pray tell me, whatever for?” asked Alison.

“My father received a personal invitation to the wedding. I would be attending the wedding in his stead,” returned Lord Lowell.

This caught Harlin's attention at once. He knew that the Lowell's were in bed with the vampires and he had been trying to find the connection but this was an admittance on Lowell's part.

“A personal invitation? Why would the vampires invite your father to their wedding? Do you perhaps have a personal relationship with them?” asked Alison.

“Your Royal Highness, we do not. However, there is the matter of some properties our ancestors had in the Kingdom of Dome before the Great War. I believe it has something to do with that,” replied Lowell.

Harlin's eyes narrowed at what Lowell had said. There was a good chance the man was bluffing.

“Very well, you may be a part of the Prince's entourage,” replied Alison. She was not sure what Lowell and his family were up to but she was not going to find out if she did not permit him to go with the prince. It just meant that Nathan's responsibilities would double. She would need him to keep an eye on the man's activities.

“I appreciate your graciousness, Your Royal Highness, I will take my leave now,” Lord Lowell bowed his head and his wife and Lady Francesca followed suit.

When the trio had left the throne room, Alison breathed a sigh of relief. She did not like this business with the vampires but she could not consult her advisors at this time. She was almost certain that more than half of them were deep in Lowell's pocket. She had not minded this before but since the Lowell's had proven that they had no regard for the crown, she became worried.

“Thank you for joining me here. If I were alone with him I might actually jump from here and scratch his face,” remarked Alison to her son and nieces.

“It was no trouble, Aunt Alison,” replied Charlotte with a bright smile. She was the only one who had listened and watched everything attentively. The boys were too distracted with Lord Lowell's women that they had yet to recover from staring too much.

“Do you think, Aunt Alison, that Lord Lowell will bring his family along with him to Dome?” Reginald tactfully replaced his wife with family.

“His family? Why?” Alison could not think of a reason Reginald would ask such a question. She had been too swept up with the whole facade of an apology that she had not paid attention to the chemistry that had passed right under her nose.

“Yes, why? Why would he bring his family, Reginald?” teased Charlotte. She had not failed to notice that Reginald had been smitten by Lady Lowell.

“It was just a question. We would have quite the entourage,” returned Reginald in a small voice. He had not recovered from seeing Lady Lowell that he had failed to recognise that his twin sister was teasing him.
