Chapter Two-Hundred-And-Sixty-Six

**3rd Person POV**

The trap had worked.

Lord Silver was of course the least person anyone would suspect. He was one of the oldest persons in the entire werewolf clan and so his loyalty to his race was not one to be questioned. But Lord Tyler had led a group of armed men into his home and there were at least a hundred vampires in his house. If he had them as just guests he could've explained their presence away but the costumes they wore at night to blend in with the rest of the werewolves and therefore terrorise people were also in his home. There was no way he could deny it but he was being pretty insistent still.

“I swear to you, this is blackmail. Someone is trying to taint my good image.” Lord Edvin wondered what it was that motivated people to lie when the evidence was clearly against them.

“You have been saying that for six hours now but you have not been able to prove anything,” replied Lord Tyler. At first, he had believed the old man when he'd said there was a good explanation to all of this but the man had changed his story multiple times already.

“So what do you want to do to me? Send me on exile?” quipped Lord Silver. Edvin thought it was ironic that his name could poison the vampires he had protected for so long.

“You know the law, Lord Silver but you are not going on exile because that is what you want, isn't it?” quipped Lord Edvin. If they sent Lord Silver into exile there would be an entire crew of vampires waiting to welcome him into their home. Sending him into exile would be like sending him away on vacation and not as punishment. Besides, they had learnt their lesson with Nydia. She had gone into exile and she repaid them by shooting at Harlin.

“This is a set-up,” commented Lord Silver while shaking his head. Lord Tyler rolled his eyes. Lord Edvin was collecting a note from a servant who had just walked in. He gave the note to Tyler and they both smiled. There was no way Silver could deny this one.

“These are letters, handwritten by you, telling Prince Ashton what our plans are. Some of these letters detail you giving the vampire prince suggestions on how to invade our home,” Lord Edvin spread the letters on the table before Lord Silver.

“Anyone can forge my handwriting,” said the man without looking unbothered. Lord Tyler sighed in frustration, there was just no getting to the old man.

“How about this? This letter is from Prince Ashton. He asks you if you have room for fifty more vampires. Do you still deny that you have committed high treason?” quipped Lord Edvin.

Lord Silver barely reacted to the last bit of what had just been said. He thought about it for a few minutes and said, “Someone must be impersonating me. I am as shocked as you are, you know? These are very serious allegations,” said Lord Silver.

“Do you know the alternative to exile?” quipped Lord Tyler.

“You will be stoned to death outside the city. If you do not start talking, you will be looking at a stoning,” said Lord Edvin.

“That is not your decision to make. Where is the Alpha? He will believe me, he will believe that I am innocent,” insisted Lord Silver.

“Alpha Dagen is not available and I can assure you that he has complete trust in our judgement,” said Lord Tyler.

“Son? The Alpha only tolerates you. He has wanted to end your life several times in the past because you are a threat to him,” said Lord Silver with a deep-throated laugh. More than anything, Lord Edvin hated that the man was not taking this seriously. He was way too calm as though confident that he was untouchable.

“I am well aware of what my father did to his father; I was there when my father took out a sword to…”

“How naive! Is that what you were made to believe? Your father came to see me before his death. He was scared, he believed his brother was going to kill him and for good reason. Dagen's father had attempted to kill your father several times and failed already,” returned Lord Silver.

Lord Tyler was quiet. He had to give credit to Lord Silver for being this smart. He was however not naive enough to believe the old man. He had unearthed old letters and correspondences of his father and his old man had been an evil person. He had wanted Dagen's father dead so that he could ascend the throne. His greed for power had been the only motivation.

“Lord Silver, your ramblings about the past will not save you, you will be stoned to death tomorrow evening,” and with that, the both of them proceeded to leave the room until Lord Silver said, “Wait. I know something that can help.”

Lord Edvin and Lord Tyler exchanged looks. They turned to look at the silver-haired man. Even though he was already very old, it was clear he was not ready to die yet. Besides, stoning was a very painful way to meet with death.

“But you must swear to me that you will not kill me,” said Lord Silver. Lord Edvin and Tyler exchanged looks. It would not be a problem if they could not kill him but still, they could make the rest of their short lives miserable.

“That can be arranged,” said Lord Tyler.

“I will live out the rest of my days outside jail,” he said.

“We set the conditions, Lord Silver, not you,” said Lord Edvin.

“I know the location of Queen Irvette,” he said. Lord Edvin and Tyler looked at him in expectation of more information but the man remained quiet.

“I will tell you more when you can assure my safety,” said Lord Silver.
