Chapter Two-Hundred-and-Fifty-Seven
**3rd Person POV**
He discovered quickly that the gun was fake and it was the reason the bullets had been placed outside the gun.
There was blood everywhere. Everywhere she turned there was blood. Gabriella was confused at first because she was not certain where the bullet had hit the young werewolf. She was at a loss for what to do at first and mostly she was in shock as she searched the werewolf’s body for the point of entry.
She tried to calm herself. She had learnt that in situations like this, she had to remain calm. So she took a second to inhale deeply and then tried turning the young werewolf over.
However, the young man held her hand in place and whispered, “Run after her. She must not escape.”
Gabriella shook her head. She had to stop the werewolf from bleeding first. She was still reeling in shock at the man's bravery. He had put himself in the line of fire for her, a stranger. She found it hard to believe that a werewolf had done that for a vampire whom he knew nothing about.
She tried again to turn him over but he held her firmly. For someone losing a lot of blood she thought that he had a lot of strength.
“She's, she's… ene,” but he was too weak to say anything more.
Gabriella became very afraid. She thought that the werewolf had died on her but a second later, she noticed that his chest was still heaving. Without wasting time, she turned him over and quickly finding the point of entry, she applied pressure with her fingers to arrest the bleed.
With one hand where the bullet was and the other free, she used her free hand along with her fangs to tear a piece of her clothes. Then gently but firmly, she wrapped the werewolf tight with the cloth so that there was enough pressure to stop the bleed temporarily.
She knew she had to take him to see a physician as quickly as possible else it was unlikely that he made it. She suspected that the bullet was lodged in the werewolf’s heart.
The entire palace was now aroused. The vampires that had begun to take a rest were now fully up. The entire palace had been turned upside down in just a few minutes and the only place left to search was a part of the palace so private that many did not know about it.
The guards seemed to lead the entire palace to this place now. Although the royals had always kept this part of the palace out of reach and sight from everyone, their privacy did not seem to matter right now.
When they entered this secluded garden, the scene shocked everyone.
Queen Agatha was the first person to cry out. Seeing her daughter covered from head to toe in blood, she screamed,
“Gabriella! Whoever did this to you?”
“The werewolf! The werewolf! Quick!” she screamed. King Armand mistook her cry for help as a signal of pain and asked, “Where does it hurt?”
Gabriella was too overwhelmed to say a word. Instead, she pointed desperately a few feet behind her, where the young werewolf lay. Having secured the wound, she had wanted to rush into the palace to get help when she saw the group that entered the palace.
The guards drew out their swords determined to hack down the man that had hurt their princess but Gabriella was quick to stop them.
“I'm not hurt! I'm not hurt. He needs a doctor! A physician!” she shouted.
Charlotte and Reginald ran quickly in the direction, Gabriella had pointed at. When they had done the headcount earlier they had discovered that only two persons were missing_Harlin and Lord Lowell.
So they ran to check if it was their cousin and friend that had been hurt.
Charlotte let out a guttural growl upon seeing her best friend down. Her eyes were blood red and Reginald knew that if Charlotte became like this, she would in her blind rage hack down everyone she perceived was a threat. He knew this well because it was the cry she gave when she was in battle.
So he hugged her tightly and would not let her go until he felt her muscles relax.
A physician had rushed forward at this time to examine the wound.
“It is fatal, we must operate on him now,” said the physician.
However at this time the sun had come out in its full glory and the vampires were beginning to take cover under the large, trees. Unfortunately, where Harlin lay there was no shade and so the doctor who couldn't stand the heat of the sun on his skin was about to retreat like the rest but a glare from Charlotte froze him up.
“We need to move him. I cannot work here,” said the vampire.
Charlotte and Reginald allowed no one to touch their cousin.
As they carried their cousin to a much cooler place, they became six years old again.
It was Harlin’s debut as a prince and heir to his mother's throne. It had not been long since they had been rescued from Nydia and Irvette in the Underworld and the two were nervous about seeing Irvette.
Of course, Charlotte had recognised the woman who had on a few occasions come to feed them while they were tied up. When she had entered her mother’s study and had seen Irvette she had recognised her. She had feigned otherwise because she could not see the dark shadow that covered Irvette's eyes. Even as a young girl, she had been able to discern that Princess Irvette had been acting under the influence of something. She did not know what that thing was but she knew it was there.
Reginald had also seen this thing and they would discuss amongst themselves how a shadow could completely control someone's actions. They had also known that the same was not true for Nydia.
