Chapter Hundred-and-Thirty-Eight
**Emily's POV**
The next day, I serenaded the markets. I ensured that Sandra followed me this time. Since I had raised my voice at her, she had done everything possible to distance herself from me. I was certain she would have communicated my annoyance with my father but I did not care at all.
Today, however, I wanted her to remain by my side. I needed her to spy on me so that Nydia and Irvette would not feel any need to monitor my actions closely. As we went from stall to stall, Sandra began to feel tired.
“My lady, I cannot go on with…” she started to say but I refused to let her finish her sentence as I shut her up with, “I do not want to hear you whining.”
I had visited all the shops that I suspected were capable of holding the twins but I had not noticed anything out of the ordinary on any of them. Afterwards, I proceeded to the least likely shops and continued this way until Sandra dropped from exhaustion.
I gave an exaggerated cry for help and found people who helped me to one of the darkest care facilities in the underworld. This particular hospital was known for trading body parts. It was the most likely place I could think of that the twins could be but it was not a regular store and I needed a good reason to be there.
When we arrived at the hospital, Sandra was taken off my hands and I was left to myself in the waiting room.
While I waited for the doctors to return with news of Sandra, I disappeared from the waiting room. I began to wander through the corridors as though I was lost. Meanwhile, I was using the opportunity to check every room for the twins. It could be that someone had kidnapped them to harvest their organs. If that was the case, I had to act very quickly.
“Excuse me, ma’am, you cannot be here,” someone stopped me before I could peep into a room at the farthest end of a very long corridor.
“Ooh… Uhm… I lost my way and I was wondering if you could direct me back?”
“What are you looking for?”
“Uhm… my maid collapsed. Some doctors told me they were taking her for some tests but it's been a while and I… I became worried,” she raised an eyebrow as she assessed my story.
“You're worried about your maid?”
“Yes… uh… she's been with the family for a long time, so my father will be worried if… I just want to make sure she's doing alright. The test is taking too long,” I said and did my best to sound convincing. I heard a scream from the door down the hall and it sounded like a child's cry. It took everything within me not to run towards the door and force it open.
“Just… just… go…” she said and rushed into the room. When she opened the door, I saw two children who looked similar tied on a chair together. However, I could not get more details from the room.
I was mortified.
The twins could be in that room but there was nothing I could do to help them. I had to find Tyler and Thoma so we could organise how we could get the twins out of this hell.
I made my way back to the floor where Sandra was and I met the doctor that had taken her away.
“She's in critical condition. Her heart is very bad, we are going to need to perform a heart transplant surgery on her,” the doctor told me.
“Her heart? What went wrong?” I asked, feigning concern. I could not care one bit if something was wrong with Sandra when I knew that she aided my father with all the evil that he did. If she dies, many souls will finally be able to have some rest.
“I will not bore you with all the medical jargon but she is going to need a new heart. If we do not perform the surgery in a few days, she's going to die,” said the doctor.
“Oh, okay. Uhm… How much is it going to cost?” I asked him.
“A thousand souls,” came the response.
I told the doctor that I would get back to him. Of course, I had to tell my father. He would want to know that his best spy was going to die except if he could produce a thousand souls. Of course, Sandra was not even worth one soul but she could to my father. Sometimes, I wondered what sort of relationship she had with my father.
When I returned to my apartment, I wrote the letter I needed to and whistled for my bird to make the delivery. Then I left my home with the intention of going to Tyler's place. However, I had not gone too far when I noticed that I was being followed.
This was bad. Irvette and Nydia knew where I lived and they were now following me to Tyler's house. I had no option then but to change course. If I visited the hospital, I could lead them to the twins which would be bad. So I walked in circles for a while before I settled on going to a bar. I entered the bar, took my seat and waited. Just like I had anticipated, they had followed me here.
I continued to sit there for a while and honestly, I was not expecting any of them to walk up to me but one of them did.
“Hello, you look down,” I looked at the one that had approached me; it was Irvette. Somehow I preferred Irvette to Nydia. Nydia’s eyes were soulless, it was like she had no emotions at all. Irvette on the other hand looked lost and I believed if she were directed, she could still find her way.
“It's Uhm… It's not a very good day.”
