Chapter Three-Hundred-and-Thirty-Eight
3rd Person POV
Regina had been on high alert the entire time. The second she received the signal from Caephas that there was trouble on Mount Shasta, she alerted Hades of what happened and together they marched to the top of Mount Shasta. Unfortunately, there was a strange current that surrounded Mount Shasta that seemed impossible to penetrate.
“Why would she ground the Lord of the Sky? None of this makes sense,” Regina said as she stood side by side with Lucian trying to crack the code of the magic barrier that kept them out of Mount Shasta.
Lucian, who had not wanted to believe at first that the Fae Queen could remember her past and turn on the world, was equally confused. He tried to think of what the benefit might be for Euphrates because no one seldom did anything without a motive.
Suddenly, he turned to Regina and said, “Caephas' throne, he's been away too long. Someone is trying to contest it.”
“He is the Lord of the Sky! That is impossible!” exclaimed Regina.
“And yet, he's grounded on Mount Shasta,” Regina's face turned sour with horror as she realised Hades could be right and if he was, what could they possibly do about it?
“We are wasting our time here, Caephas will find his way out of here eventually. We need to ascend the skies to see what is happening,” suggested Hades.
“And then what? We fight on Caephas' behalf?”
“I may know who is doing this to Caephas. If it is who I think it is, then only I can send the creature out of the sky,” said Hades, there was a tinge of regret in his voice. When he had become Hades, his mother had told him that he was meant to kill every creature that ever opposed him for the crown but he had been merciful, a trait he knew the others would not have embodied if they had become Hades. His mother always said that he was too kind and good to lead hell and he was beginning to think that she may be right. He always gives people too many chances like he had done with Euphrates. He blamed himself that things had got to this extent. If he had taken Regina seriously when she had first shared her concerns with him, things would not be as bad as they are today. Euphrates would have been completely destroyed.
“How do we get to the sky?” asked Regina. She had no wings and she knew also that although Lucian (Hades) had wings, he could not fly in the realm of the sky.
There was no time for words—only actions so Hades held Regina's hands and in a blink of an eye they were in front of Jude, King of the Dragons.
“It is an urgent matter and you only can lead the way to the realm of the skies,” said Hades. He spoke rather hurriedly, he knew that every second counted.
Jude gave instructions to his courtiers before helping the both of them get to the skies.
When Regina saw the place for the very first time, she understood just why the sky was an exclusive realm which only clean creatures could ascend. Even though it was all chaos now that someone was trying to trash the place, the place still radiated with a beauty that the earth lacked. However, this was no time to admire the scenery.
As they walked the streets, creatures flew past them from every direction. Most of them looked anxious and terrified and many of them were confused. Hades managed to stop one and asked, “What is happening here?”
“Someone is claiming the throne,” and the creature disappeared.
It took a lot of effort before Hades could get someone else to speak to him.
“It is a man named Carlos who claims to be Caephas' twin.”
That was the only information Hades managed to squeeze out but it was enough. Jude led the two to the Caephas' castle where it was all happening. He led them to the throne room and seated on Caephas' throne was one that looked indeed a lot like Caephas. It was easy to mistake the fellow for Caephas. It came as a shock to Regina who had not known about this twin until this very moment.
“You imposter! What are you doing here?” while Regina was convinced the person on the throne was Caephas's twin, Hades was not. He could see through the disguise.
“Have you come to witness my enthronement?” asked Carlos with a wicked smile.
Hades could not stand it any longer, he lifted his hand and directed a ball of energy towards Carlos.
“You fool! You can't even use your wings here and you think your powers will mean anything here?” mocked the one who sat on the throne.
“You forget who my mother was. It is why she would always be better than you ever were,” spat Lucian. His hands were still in the direction of the throne and his ball of energy was now taking effect as Carlos twisted himself severally on the throne.
Regina watched as he kept on shaking until Carlos was no more. In the place of Carlos was someone that she recognised.
“Princess Eris?”
“You had no right!” she screamed as she landed on the ground, having been expelled from the throne.
“I had no right? You fool, you brought this upon yourself!” screamed Hades. He had been hearing rumours for a long time that Eris had become something more evil and wicked than herself. He had known for a fact that she had consumed her son to become more powerful but he had not cared much because she was not a threat to him. He had heard many strange things too, one being that she had attained the power of shapeshifting at will. He had done nothing to curb her excesses because he had wanted to give her the benefit of doubt.
