Chapter Hundred-and-Fifty-Seven
**Third Person POV**
The Elders exchanged a look amongst themselves. They had greatly underestimated Princess Irvette. She seemed prepared for every question they threw at her and she seemed to know how to express all the right emotions.
“My physician tells me I need adequate rest as I approach my due date. I also understand that my son is the only surviving royal in the pack. So, if you do not mind, may we continue this another time?” Irvette asked in a polite tone. What she was really trying to tell them was that she had had enough of them. She also knew they would conclude the meeting because should anything happen to her child they would want to be absolved from all blame.
“Of course, we will continue at another time,” responded Elder Davis with a smile. He hated that she was using her baby as leverage. To him, she was not any different from her father. If she was going to rule this pack, she would have to earn his trust.
“Thank you. By the way, has an exorcism been done? The manner in which my husband died is very suspicious. His killer is yet to be found,” Irvette said.
“Are you suggesting that a ghost killed your husband?” Elder Davis' tone was not without sarcasm.
“I am suggesting that there is such a possibility,” she was looking at their eyes individually as though she was trying to pass a message. Elder Thaddeus seemed to understand what she meant. Although they had suspected that George had killed Lord Harlin, they had not sealed the palace off from him. Since he had used dark magic to make himself appear within the palace at will, they could seal off his access to the palace. Elder Thaddeus watched the Princess as she left the room, she had been trying to tell them that George still came to the palace and he was threatening her.
“Do not tell me you fell for that Thaddeus. Everything about her reeks of lies. She should have gone to the theatre. She's a pretty good actress,” remarked Elder Davis the minute Princess Irvette left their presence.
“We did not seal the palace from George. He could be in the next room listening to all of our plans,” said Elder Thaddeus.
Elder Walker looked at him alarmed.
“Do you think?” quipped Elder Walker.
“We should just do it now. We should get a priest.”

Princess Irvette's next stop was her room where she lay on her bed waiting for Lloyd to come examine her. The physician had told her to expect the baby any time from now. He came into her room with several of his attendants. They acknowledged her presence and Lloyd began his examination of her stomach.
“The baby is healthy,” he said when he was done.
“Everyone should leave us,” commanded Princess Irvette. She knew there was a lot Lloyd could not say without risking his head in the presence of others that were present.
“What is wrong with the child?” demanded Princess Irvette.
“I fear that the child might be deformed,” the Physician’s voice shook as he said this.
“My baby? Deformed?” quizzed Princess Irvette.
“It is very likely that the child is born and is healthy but you are very close to term and the child is still very small,” responded Lloyd. He looked at the ground while he spoke. He feared he might see his death sentence in the eye of the Princess.
“What can I do about it?” Princess Irvette asked him. She just wanted to give birth to a healthy child.
“I'm afraid there is nothing we can do but wait,” returned the Physician.
“When do you think the child will…” but before she could finish her sentence she found that she had wet herself. The next thing that came out of her mouth was a groan of pain.
“GET IN HERE, THE PRINCESS IS HAVING A BABY,” Lloyd screamed for his attendants who were standing outside the room.
Princess Irvette found herself surrounded by many people encouraging her to push but the pain blinded her to all their shouts to push. Since she had travelled and left Harlin in the palace she had not really thought about him or missed him. In all honesty, she had agreed to marry Harlin because she wanted to spite Regina and she had wanted to please her father. There had also been the fact that Harlin was the most handsome boy she had ever seen. She had not missed her husband in a long time but in this moment she wished he were by her side. At this moment, she longed to see his handsome face crinkled with worry and feel his touch on her hand.
“Princess, you must push just one more time, okay?” she heard someone say.
She grunted once more and she felt the baby slip out of her. She breathed a sigh of relief thanking the heavens that it was all over but something was wrong. Didn't babies cry when they were born? Why was everywhere so quiet then? Why was the baby not crying?
“My baby? Lloyd, why is it not crying?” questioned Irvette with a shaky voice. She was scared of what the answer could be; if the child was not crying did that mean it was dead?
“WHY IS IT NOT CRYING?” screamed Princess Irvette. With trembling hands, Lloyd gave the child to the Princess.
Princess took the child in her hands. The baby was cold to touch but what brought tears to her eyes was the shocking resemblance the child bore to Harlin.
Princess Irvette turned the child's back and with two fingers, spanked the child's buttocks. The others in the room looked upon her strangely but said nothing. The young mother needed to grieve however she could.
She spanked the child again and again and again until Lloyd was about to voice his disagreement.
Then with a loud shriek as though the child were in pain, it let out a guttural cry.
