Chapter Thirty-four.
Gina's POV.
The heaviness that held my head in place disappeared at once as I was alarmed by this information.
“Poisoned? What do you mean I was poisoned?” I was alarmed. They planned to end my life after I had given birth to the heir. Why was Lady Nydia after my life now?
“Shhh!” she put her hand on my mouth to shut me up.
When I had relaxed, she removed her hand from my mouth and in a low voice she said, “I heard the physician say it by chance. You must not speak about it, the physician that reported the poison to Lady Nydia died the same day.”
My eyes were bulging out of their sockets in shock. Lady Nydia had felt the need to take things that far? If she had the need to end the physician's life it was my guess that Alpha Dagen was not in the know of this.
“If Lady Nydia knows that I know about this it may be the end of my life,” she said in a whisper.
“I understand,” I said, laying back on the bed. My head was ringing and it felt like my head was in boiling hot water.
“Has Alpha Dagen been here?”
“No, Alpha Dagen has left your care in the hands of Lady Nydia,” replied Diane.
“In the hands of my killer?” I whispered the last part so that only she would hear.
“I am afraid so,” said Diane.
“The physician? How did he die?” I asked her.
“He was attacked on his way home,” said Diane.
“I see.”

The next time I woke up I was feeling a lot better so much so that I begged Diane to borrow a book on my behalf from the library.
“No, my Lady,” she refused.
“Why not?” I asked in a pitiful voice.
“You are only just recovering; you need to rest well. If you have a novel with you, you will not sleep,” she was right of course but I had to make her think otherwise.
“Then what am I to do while I am wide awake like now? Gaze at the ceiling?” I quipped trying to let her see that her decision to keep me from engaging my mind was ridiculous.
“That is not a bad idea; you can also pick up knitting if you are so bored,” she replied.
“Knitting? How can you say that? It is such a bore and I do not know how to do it,” I replied.
“I can teach you how to knit,” she said.
“Diane, you need to listen to…”
“Sleep now!” she ordered.
“What? You cannot just command me to…”
“I hear Lady Nydia's footsteps,” she whispered and I lay back on my bed at once and covered myself with my blanket. If she discovered that I was better now she could decide to send me to the field again or give me another such horrendous job.
“Has Regina woken up?” I heard Lady Nydia's voice for the first time in a long while. What was she doing here anyway?
“My lady was awake for a brief moment. She complained of a severe headache,” came Diane's response. I had not known that Diane could lie so effortlessly.
“Do check her pulse,” Lady Nydia instructed someone and I guessed that must be the new physician treating me. My hand was drawn softly out of my blanket and my pulse was taken.
“Her pulse is good. She should be awake tomorrow,” replied the physician and I had a good mind to scratch his face.
“Let Regina know when she wakes up that she is to ready herself for conception. I will send Margaret here tomorrow to take her through her duties,” said Lady Nydia.
“Yes, my Lady.”
“More so, Alpha Dagen and I have agreed that she will remain indoors until she is delivered of the baby,” Lady Nydia had just said my worst nightmare. Did that mean I could not take trips to the library or enjoy riding horses again? I wanted to protest this but I knew it was for the best to continue my pretense of sleep.
“Yes, my lady,” came Diane's response.
Lady Nydia left after that and Diane tapped me when it was safe to sit up.
“Do I have to repeat all she has said?” asked Diane.
“No, not at all. I believe they want to get it over with so they can get rid of me sooner,” my voice was heavy. It was clear now that if Alpha Dagen had wavered at first or cared remotely about me he no longer had those feelings. My fate was now in the hands of his lover and there was no one that could save me from her death trap.
The next day I waited for Margaret to come and start whatever it was she needed to go help me conceive. I was not even certain what she wanted to do per se. She wasn't going to help Alpha Dagen place his manhood inside of me, was she? Or teach me about intimacy? Perhaps there was a way to do it to ensure conception?
“Have you any idea what this woman will be teaching me?” I asked Diane and she blushed a little bit.
“No, my lady but I do not understand what you mean by getting rid of you sooner,” her clear curious eyes stabbed my heart. I could not bear to tell her that the day of my death was approaching fast.
“You need not worry about that,” I responded with a smile but my mind was troubled. I had to find a way to escape this place even before Alpha Dagen became intimate with me again. I could not afford to get pregnant now. It would only complicate matters for me. I had to find my mother's pack at all costs and I needed to find my way there.
“Diane? I need you to do me a favor,” I said in a serious tone.
