Chapter Hundred-and-Twenty-Eight
**Dagen’s POV**
“I have no time for your silly games. Why are you here?” I demanded.
“We want the same things…”
“Just cut to the chase, George, and stop bullshitting me,” I said, my voice charged with rage. I was feeling a lot of things at the moment and if George was not careful, I would rend him to pieces with my bare hands.
“Fine. I will skip the foreplay. You want to preserve your throne, yes?” quipped George with a smile. His smile was making me sick. I wish I could wipe it off his face.
“Get to the damn point!” I insisted.
“You can have the twins and keep your throne. In return, I want Regina,” he said. My eyes narrowed in on him. What sort of deal was that? Why would he need Regina to keep his throne? How did Regina… Then it struck me. All those rituals Alpha George had been performing, had been to increase his aura of energy so that he would become so powerful that he would be invisible. More importantly, he needed a hybrid to complete the ritual. He needed Regina. If he had Regina, he could become perhaps the most powerful creature to ever exist. He needed her blood for his sacrifice. He also needed my consent as her mate who had mated with her and then hers. It began to make sense to me. He had kidnapped the twins because it was the only way to get our consent. Regina was in more danger than I realised. Shockingly, it occurred to me that Edvin had been right all along. If there was a way to secure my throne without risking my life to save Regina, I would most likely take it.
“No, no, no,” I repeated out loud because I needed to convince myself that I would not sell Regina out like that. If for anything, she had suffered betrayal from her family all her life and I knew firsthand how that felt. Even now, I can still remember vividly the bloodlust look on my uncle’s face as he had slain my family.
“No? Your response has just cost you your daughter,” he said, but I did not change my answer. I could not. I also knew that he was bluffing. He would need the twins alive if he was to blackmail Regina into giving her life for his sacrifice.
“I assure you I will get my way. You just watch and see,” he said with a toothy smile that vexed me so much that I ran towards him with the intention of wriggling his throat until life drained out of him, but he was gone.
I stood in the middle of my drawing room, frustrated and angry. What the hell had just happened?
“Your Majesty? Are you alright?” cried Edvin.
“Abbot told me you had a strange guest,” Edvin said when I did not answer his question. I was not ignoring him, I was just still in shock as to what had just happened.
Alpha George had entered my palace and had not run out but had disappeared. All this while we had been doing nothing to find him, he had only become more powerful. He had unlocked a forbidden sort of power. I shuddered as I recalled that he had taken his wife to the underworld to bury her. He had not done that because the underworld was a preferred burial site, but because he had offered her soul to the underworld in exchange for power. The man was pure evil. If he could use the mother of his children in such a fashion, there was no telling the extent he was willing to go to achieve his aim.
“Alpha George was here,” I told Edvin.
He looked at me with confusion.
“He disappeared into thin air,” I explained.
“He has become more powerful,” Edvin was stating the obvious.
“We have to stop him; he's going to… How soon can I descend to the underworld?” I asked. It was an absolute need for me to stop this. This was no longer about just Regina and preserving my throne. It was a lot bigger than that, because should Alpha George succeed in completing what he had started, the world as we knew it was going to change and in a very bad way.
“Preparations will take at least a month,” said Edvin.
“It cannot be faster than that?”
“It is a month because I had already begun making preparations some months back.”
“What do you suggest we do, Edvin? Do we tell the Elders?”
“We have to. The entire werewolf clan needs to know that death has been declared upon them. George is turning into a monster, and he will destroy us completely,” said Edvin.
“When is the fiery red moon going to appear?” I asked Edvin, painfully aware that George needed his sacrifice ready for that day.
“It is still unknown, but it is close,” said Edvin, sharing my dread.
“I will invite the Elders so we can know how best to protect our race. The werewolves must also be prepared to fight back. It's going to be the longest battle in the history of our existence,” I said.
“Let us hope it does not come to that,” returned Edvin.
At once, I sent word to the Council of Elders stating that I had to see them at once. I also informed my friends that were rulers so they could come also.
In three days, the Elders (not all of them) were gathered in my state dining room where I usually entertained dignitaries who visited me. My friends, Alpha Raphael and Beta Phillips were present too.
“I thank you all for honouring my invitation. As you are well aware, something very dark has been going on in the Blood Moon pack. We had thought that it was a simple case of an overture, but I am saddened to tell you that it is a lot more.”
