Chapter Hundred-And-Eighty-Two

**3rd Person POV**

The house had a homely feel. It reminded her of Aunt Halle's house. The man offered her a chair which she took in spite of herself. He offered her something to drink but she only took water.

“The children?” quipped Regina. She was not interested in making friends here. She wanted to find her children and go back home.

Home.

She thought about the word. She really did not have a place she could call home. The only place she had felt safe was in Lady Tristan's sister's house and in the end her children were taken away from her and her hostess was murdered. She tried not to think of it but the image of her grand aunt sprawled on the floor in a pool of her own blood refused to leave her line of sight.

“What children?” asked Rowan. He knew without a doubt that the woman in front of him was his daughter but he still needed to confirm. He had stayed long enough in the underworld to know that evil spirits disguised themselves as all sorts of things. He would not want to tell the wrong person what he knew about the twins.

“Don't play games with me,” Regina's voice was hostile.

“You take after your mother. Do you know the first time I met her she was convinced I was a robber and she placed a sword to my neck?” Rowan said. Her anger was the confirmation he needed. Her demeanour even when enraged was just like Marilyn.

Regina's eyes narrowed on the older man. What did her mother have to do with anything? And, why would he speak about her mother fondly?

“Who are you?” she demanded.

“Marilyn was so…”

“I have no care of whatever fancy tales you have to tell of my mother. What I want to know is if you have the said children?”

“Patience my dear, patience.”

Rowan did not see it coming until it happened. Regina had placed an arm around his neck and held a small but very sharp knife to the base of his neck.

“Do you have the children or not?” she demanded.

“So like your mother,” whispered Rowan. Regina was getting frustrated. She grazed the man's skin with her blade to prove her seriousness.

_The blood; it's yours_ Raven said within her before she could draw more blood. Suddenly, an image flashes before her eyes. It was the sketch of a man on the last page of her mother's diary. She dropped the knife and turned the man around so that she was looking at his face.

“Rowan?” she blinked several times. It was little wonder she was filled with deja vu when he had opened the door. His reference about her mother made sense now. Her heart became heavy at once. She was among the dead so she was face to face with her dead father.

“Regina, you grew up well,” he had a proud smile on his face. Regina's eyes became wet with tears. It was her father; she began to sob and Rowan hugged her so she cried in his arms. When she was calm, she pulled away from him and asked, “Did you meet my twins?”

“They were with me not too long ago. They are lovely but they have a way with words,” returned Rowan with a smile.

“Where are they now?” asked an anxious Regina.

“I received word from Lady Tristan that they are with her,” said Rowan.

Regina's face paled. She had run away from the palace because of…

“King Napoleon is dead,” Rowan announced. Regina's face pinkened at the news. She felt no sorrow at the news of his death although she was slightly worried that his soul was somewhere in the underworld lurking about.

“Emily is queen, isn't she?” inquired Regina. She knew her cousin would make a great Queen.

“She is. But enough of them. I want to know all about you,” Rowan said.

“Prince Aegan, if you must declare yourself king over all you must be ready to sit on the throne,” said Lucian.

The entire court was silent at these words and everyone turned to Aegan, waiting to see if he would follow through with what Lucian had said. It was unprecedented for anyone to declare themselves king of Hades without following due process. The problem with hijacking the throne in such a way was that the one who sat on the throne would be consumed and only the entity called Hades could endure it. Prince Aegan had thus declared a suicide mission.

“Prince Aegan, I am afraid you have to sit on the throne until you can be transformed into Hades,” Sir Derek spoke up. Prince Aegan eyed him maliciously. He vowed that the second he became Hades, the first thing he would do would be to extinguish Derek's soul.

“Aegan, you must listen to me. We have come this far to lose it all now,” pleaded Princess Eris. She needed her son to see reason. She knew that if he sat on that throne, he would cease to exist and the throne would go to Lucian. She was beginning to think that she should have married the King of Time after all.

“The throne is mine, mother. I will not be consumed,” said Prince Aegan.

“Then go ahead and sit on the throne. If it is yours like you say, it will not consume you,” came Prince Lucian's response.

If Prince Aegan sat on the throne and was consumed, it did not exactly make him king. The horns of hell will look for another candidate to compete with him. The only thing was it would be hard for any other entity to beat him to the throne.

“That is not how it works. If I give an order, I expect it to be followed. If anyone wants to challenge my ruling, they will have to fight me,” replied Prince Aegan. In other words, he had just invited Prince Lucian to a duel.
