Chapter Three-Hundred-and-Twenty-One
3rd Person POV
“He turned you down flat, right? At least you tried…”
“He said yes. He'll do it. There'll be a cleansing rain and then no zombies,” Irvette gushed to Regina. She could not believe her luck. She still thought Caephas was an idiot but he was a good-looking, good-hearted idiot.
“What did you do to convince him?” asked Regina.
“Nothing. He just agreed to do it,” said Irvette with a shrug. She was glad that she had not needed any of the million scenarios she had created in her mind before meeting Caephas.
Regina was surprised that Caephas had agreed so quickly. However, when she saw Caephas across the room she knew why the man had agreed instantly. He was smitten by her cousin. The Lord of the Sky could not tear his eyes away from Irvette. There was also someone who could not stop looking at Irvette. It was Queen Euphrates. She could not take her eyes off Irvette. She could not believe she had allowed the woman to seduce the man she wanted.
Although, it was never too late to undo the damage so she walked up to Caephas hoping to use her charm on him.
“Lord Caephas, I hope you're enjoying the soiree I am hosting in your honour,” she said with a smile. Caephas had an irritated look on his face. He did not like that she was obstructing his view.
“Indeed, I am. If you will excuse…”
“Caephas! I heard you approved the request. Are you concerned about our dear planet now?” asked Dagen. He could see that his friend needed help in getting away from the Fae Queen.
“I thought I'd do your kind some good,” said Caphaes, happy to see his friend. He wanted to tell his friend about Irvette. What was it about her that he could not get enough of her just by looking at her?
“Queen Euphrates, you host lovely parties. I hope you'll invite me more often in the future,” said Dagen with a smile. He just wanted her to go somewhere else. However, he was not expecting her response, “You had your chance and you missed it.”
“What? I had my chance at what?” asked Dagen, looking at her confused. She did not answer him, instead, she sauntered away. Dagen did not care too much either so he turned his attention to his friend.
“Stop staring Caephas, she's going to think you're creepy,” whispered Dagen to his friend.
“What am I supposed to do? I can't stop, make it stop!”
“You fool! You said you were never falling in love,” retorted Dagen.
“I know what I said and I am not in love. Love makes people do stupid things. Oh goodness! She's coming here, she's coming here! We have to hide!” Caephas was already making for the other end of the room but Dagen pulled him back.
“Stop losing your cool, just stay put,” hissed Dagen. He had never seen Caephas act this strange before. It was like he had no experience at all with women.
“I'm put, I'm so put,” said Caephas trying to stay calm.
“Lord Caephas, I want to thank you again for approving my request. Although I wonder when the promised rain will happen?” asked Irvette. She had been given a fortnight and she only had seven days left.
“When do you want it to happen?” asked Caephas. Dagen rolled his eyes.
“As soon as today, if that is possible?” quipped Irvette.
“Absolutely! As I speak now, the rain will begin,” said Caephas and just like that they heard the faint hum of rain from inside the large hall. Caephas was the Lord of the Sky, the word of his mouth was all that was needed.
Irvette rushed outside and she was wowed. It really was raining and it was not just any other rain. It was the rain that was going to clean the earth of the poison of zombies. She could not believe it. Nothing could ruin this moment for her or so she thought. When she turned around to return to the party, she saw Queen Euphrates standing behind her and the Queen of the Faes was not smiling.
“I permit you to see Caephas and this is how you repay me?” asked Euphrates. Irvette on the other hand was clueless. She did not understand why the Fairy Queen was angry with her.
“Queen Euphrates, I'm not sure what you're talking about. If this is about the gem, I can hand it over to you right now. It is somewhere…”
“Save your bullshit gemstone! You want to give it to me after using it to win Caephas over? You are pathetic! I should have known that. People don't change!” spat Queen Euphrates in pure anger. She walked out before Irvette could respond. Regina however had witnessed the last part of the one-sided fight and it seemed to her that Nydia had not left this world. She was hiding under Queen Euphrates but it was hard to keep her true self under wraps for so long.
“What is her problem? And what did she mean by that? People never change? I've never even met her before,” Irvette was very surprised at Queen Euphrates’ animosity towards her. She just could not understand what she had done to deserve it.
“We need to leave, Ivy. We need to leave now, okay?” Regina whispered to her cousin.
“Follow me, I'll get Dagen and we'll leave, okay?” quipped Regina, holding her cousin's hand.
Irvette was confused but she followed her cousin nonetheless. Regina whispered something into Dagen's ears and the next thing that followed was the three of them holding hands in Emily's room. It was unfortunate timing because Captain Thoma seemed to be having a rather passionate time with his pregnant wife.
“Regina!” screamed Emily.
“Sorry, we had to leave last minute,” Regina said.
“Not cool, friend, Not cool,” said Captain Thoma to Dagen.
“Caephas is angry you did not invite him to the wedding,” was Dagen's response.
