Chapter Three-Hundred-and-Three

3rd Person POV

“My mother is… she's alright?” There were tears in Harlin's eyes when he received the news. There were tears in Alison's eyes too. She had long given up hope that her sister could ever make it back in one piece—soul and body complete.

“She is, she is,” said Alison to Harlin again, affirming the news he had just heard.

The twins were also sobbing quietly out of happiness for their cousin.

“I will go to…”

“You are going nowhere Harlin, she is going to be with us tomorrow,” said Alison. The letter that had brought the news to her had added that Irvette was making her way to the Blood Moon pack even as the letter had touched her palm.

“We must prepare; everything should be perfect for Queen Irvette. She's particular about everything,” said Alison, trying to stop the tears from flowing from her eyes.

“Do we announce this at court?” asked Harlin.

It was the first time that it had occurred to Alison that with Irvette's return, she would have to vacate the throne. That made her even more happy. She wanted to return to life before the throne although she was not certain what she would do afterwards.

“Not yet, we should let your mother decide that,” said Alison.

When Alison left them to prepare for her sister's coming, Harlin almost asked the twins how he was supposed to behave when he saw his mother but he realised that the twins had grown up with their mother. He had only seen her briefly when she was in the cell and then when he had woken up but she had not been able to recognise him then.

“Will she be safe? The zombies could attack her or…”

“She will get here alright, okay?” quipped Charlotte, placing an arm around Harlin. She could sense that he was nervous about his mother coming here especially as this was more like their first real reunion.

“I’m sure Aunt Em would provide her with the best guards for her journey. You don't worry about a thing, okay?”

“Okay, okay. What should I wear tomorrow? How do I behave? What do I…” it would have been funny if the twins did not know the hard time Harlin had had growing up without his mother and father. They personally could not imagine their lives without their parents.

“Relax, you don't need to do anything to impress your mother. The fact that you are alive and doing well is impressive enough, okay?” quipped Reginald in comfort.

Dagen had returned home from Queen Euphrates’ ball and was trying to put together a guest list for his private ball. He did not want just anyone attending the ball. It had to be planned with the intention of Reginald falling in love with one of the women Dagen had carefully selected for his son.

He'd had to postpone his ball a little bit because of the news that Irvette had regained her consciousness. As a result, his son would be with his friend during this time. Dagen wondered if the three of them would remain close after they had married or after they had assumed their thrones.

“Everything is almost ready, Edvin but are you sure this is going to work? What about I just give Reginald a list of the women I want him to marry and ask him to choose?” quipped Dagen. He did not want this plan to fail.

“Youths these days have a mind of their own. If you do that, Reginald may decide to marry someone you do not like just to defy you,” said Lord Edvin.

“And you think that he will not see through this plan?” quipped Lord Tyler who had little faith in what Dagen was planning.

“He will have no idea, there is nothing strange with his father inviting him to a ball,” said Lord Edvin who could see absolutely nothing wrong with the plan.

“A ball that is filled with families of eligible women? Give the child some credit for intelligence,” said Lord Tyler.

“Oh my! We should invite some families with male children too, thank you, Tyler,” said Dagen, wondering how he could have forgotten such an important detail.

“You’re welcome,” Tyler replied with no excitement in his voice.

“Is there anything else we have missed?” asked Dagen, not wanting to forget anything.

“Yes, Reginald may not like any of these women. Perhaps, there is someone he already likes,” added Lord Tyler.

“Someone he likes? That is not likely. He's my son but I know he's a playboy. After all, he takes after me, he's got stamina, you know,” Dagen had a proud smile on his face when he said this.

“You were quite a stud in your heydays,” added Lord Edvin.

“You talk as though you're old now,” scoffed Lord Tyler.

“I've got some white hair, I am getting old,” protested Dagen.

“You're not old Dagen. You've still got at least 150 years ahead of you if not more,” said Lord Tyler. He could not believe these men.

“It would not be bad if I saw my great-grandchildren before my passing,” shrugged Dagen who could not argue with Tyler's logic.

“Don’t tell me you're planning to dump the Kingdom on Reginald now; he's still young, he should be allowed to enjoy his youth,” said Lord Tyler. Alpha Dagen looked away guiltily.

“You’re unbelievable! Honestly, you all should let these children enjoy their youth,” Tyler was not referring to Dagen alone. He had heard talk of Harlin becoming Alpha and Emily stepping down so she could hand over to Charlotte.

“I've been Alpha since my teen years. Don't you think I deserve some rest, huh?” quipped Dagen.

“You do not! You're not leaving me in this position!” cried Edvin whose son was too young to be taken over being Beta.

“I'm not leaving you alone, I'll be…”

“You're not quitting until my son is old enough to become Beta.”
