Chapter Three-Hundred-and-Forty-Three

3rd Person POV

It was not until Charlotte’s wedding soiree that Kade saw Rosaline again. Unknown to Kade, he was not the only one with feelings for her. Nathan, Alison's loyal servant was head over heels for her too but Rosalind frightened him so he dared not to make a move on her. However, there was one person whose relatively new status had given him the courage to approach Rosaline. That person was Jude, Ashton's former lieutenant who was now the Dragon King.

Rosaline had rejected all the proposals. When asked by Kade as they swirled on the dance floor why she had no interest in him, she said, “I would like to concentrate on my career, I was recently promoted.”

“At court?”

“Yes, people actually listen to what I say now. Why would I want to give that up?” quipped Rosaline. She was flattered by all the attention she was getting but she loved her current station in life. There was nothing that would take that away from her.

“You can have so much more if you are my Luna…”

“That is a glorified position for nothing. I will be the Alpha's wife, mate, love, whatever. You werewolves do not give your spouses power,” said Rosaline.

“That is not true, Rosaline. The Luna has many duties,” said Kade.

“Many duties? Like what? Hosting soirees and having tea parties? Your mother is Luna, is she not? Is she part of the decision-making process of your pack?” asked Rosaline. Kade was quiet which told Rosaline everything she needed to know.

“I am not interested in some ceremonial position, I love my job and want to keep at it,” said Rosaline.

“You can continue your work When I am…”
“Prince Kade, your father doesn’t even approve of our kind and he will allow me a place in your court? We both know that is not happening so you have to top this. I wish you well,” her statement coincided with the end of the song so she bowed to him and left.

But Kade was not the only one with a romantic prospect. There was Jude, King of the Dragons who wanted her to have his heir. He asked for a dance and as they twirled about on the dance floor, they spoke about old times. They had both been in the employ of Prince Ashton so they had a lot to talk about.

“Who knew you would become king?” joked Rosaline. She remembered Jude as one of Ashton’s soldiers who always carried the vampire’s instructions to the letter because he was too afraid to lose his life. That Jude did not exist anymore. Instead, there was Jude who gave orders and was a ruler over his kind.

“Sometimes I think I am dreaming,” replied Jude.

They joked some more about old times until Jude finally asked her if she would come to be his queen. She laughed very hard thinking at first that Jude was joking. However, when he did not laugh with her, she realised that he was being serious.

“Jude, you do not possibly mean that,” said Rosaline.

“I’ve always had a thing for you,” Jude’s face was red with embarrassment. He had not expected that he would be laughed at.

“I’m so sorry Jude, I thought you were joking,” apologised Rosaline.

“It’s alright and you do not have to respond to my request immediately,” Jude left after that. He was positive that she would reject him but he was not ready for such a heartache yet.

In another corner of the hall, Reginald and Arabella were talking in hushed tones. During Isabella’s christening, they had drank wine together and in the blur of their mind had made love to each other. It was a drunken mistake but it was one that would cost them because Arabella had discovered a week ago that she was pregnant and she didn't know what to do about it. She had discussed it with Reginald and he was just as confused. It did not seem right to get married because of the child. Besides, it was too soon after the love of his life had died. It would feel like a betrayal to her. Then again, Arabella was a noble lady who had been made Beta of her pack, how would he live with himself when she faced ridicule about having a child out of wedlock?

Naturally, they had shared their problem with Harlin and Charlotte who advised them to come clean to Reginald’s parents and Queen Irvette.

“Aunt Ivy will be so disappointed,” cried Arabella.

“You got pregnant, you did not murder anyone,” said Harlin who could not understand the fuss. To him, they had done nothing wrong.

“She will make me get married,” replied Arabella.

“My mother cannot force you to do that, you're an adult. It is your decision,” said Harlin.

“Your mother will kill me, mum will kill me, I am so dead,” cried Reginald.

“This is my wedding party, think about your sorrows tomorrow,” Charlotte appeared from nowhere and joined the conversation. She had seen her friends huddled in a corner and knew what they were talking about.

“What about we get rid of the baby? No one has to know,” suggested Arabella.

“Are you insane!” exclaimed Harlin.

“It’s her body so it’s her choice,” added Charlotte.

“I want this child. We made a mistake, not the baby. It should not suffer for our sins,” said Reginald, “I will tell my parents about it tomorrow and then I will inform Aunt Irvette.”

“Okay, let’s do that.”

“And try to have some fun. It is my wedding!” exclaimed Charlotte.

“Charlie?” They all turned to see Kristoff who had missed his bride.

The newest married couple walked away hand in hand. Arabella looked briefly at Reginald and wondered if she would ever experience that.
