Chapter 109
Nick’s POV
Walking the halls of the castle, I was going to miss this place. But I knew my new life was next to Soma and Oliver. I knew they were going to need all the help they could get because the Lycan community was hated among everyone, all thanks to Gideon. Even though people were starting to come around it was still bad. We still had to watch ourselves because they would attack us if we were alone. I still needed to get with Nathaniel and see if he was going to send anyone else with us, or if he was planning on visiting the pack lands to ensure it was safe for his daughter.
She was still a Princess and unless she told her father she didn’t want the title, she would always have it. I was her protector until now, and with that, I needed to ensure we were going to be safe with his pack too.
I was a little worried that his pack would be too scared of us Lycan but I knew we had to give them a chance to get to know us. I needed to get to know them as well because everything we were taught about them was lies and it pisses me off that I believed those lies all these years. I knew it was going to take a while on both our parts to understand each other. I just hope there was no violence between the two of us. I don’t want to hurt Oliver’s people and I don’t want to be hurt by them either.
“There you are,” Nathaniel said coming closer to me. “Did you get any rest?”
“No,” I said shaking my head. “I couldn’t sleep not knowing what is happening to Soma. Is she going to live through this?”
“Yes.” He smiled. “Mary has already talked and explained to Oliver and he seems concerned about being rejected, so we need to figure out how to make it where he doesn’t think she is still going to reject him. I want him to understand things but I don’t know how to explain to a wolf without getting angry. “Are you going to be able to handle Oliver if he gets out of hand?”
“I don’t think we have to worry about him getting out of hand. I think once Soma is awake and everything will go where they need to.” I said. “But if I can I will make sure I have Night's bane. I don’t want to put the Alpha out but I will if he gets to be too much.”
“I don’t think you’re going to have to worry about that too much,” Mary said shaking her head. “When he knows Soma is alive and awake we will see a change in him. I just wish we could make things go a little faster, but we cannot rush Seff otherwise she could kill them both.”
“I still can't believe they marked her,” I said. “I didn’t think the vampire King or the fake one would have gone that far.”
“When you know that someone has the power you would do the same thing if you want it bad enough,” Mary said. “But I am glad he didn’t get to complete the whole thing, yes she killed him but it stopped everything else from happening, and now we will have to help Soma understand her place in our world.”
“I wish her adopted parents would have been honest with her,” I said with a sad face.
“Well if they were, she would have run away from them because she knew she didn’t belong among the humans and she probably would have been caught and we wouldn't have known,” Nathaniel said. “But now that she knows of our world I think it will be a lot easier to show her things and she will have a better understanding.”
“I hope so, but I am still worried about Oliver. I don’t want his wolf getting crazy when she does wake up. I have a feeling he is going to cause some issues when we want to be close to her.” I whispered. “I know he was starting to get that way with her when Marcus was doing things, I still cannot forgive him for that.”
“I know, but you have to, he wasn't trying to hurt her on purpose, but he had to make it look real and he did, sadly it will make Soma less trusting of him, but they will become friends.”
“She is going to become friends with the vampire that tried to hurt her?” I snapped. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I wasn't going to let the vampire near her, I didn’t want him to even breathe the same air as her. There was no way they were going to even have a conversation.
“Are you worried more about Oliver or yourself Nick?” Mary mused. “It seems to me that you are going to be overly protective of her because of what happened.”
“I am going to do what you wanted me to do for her entire life. I will use my dying breath to protect her if I have to.” I said rolling my eyes. “But I am sure you already know that.”
“You know we knew you two were going to be best friends way before this day,” Mary said looking at Nathaniel. “I know you think that is crazy but we knew you before you were born. We told your mother that you were going to be one of our best warriors. She didn’t want to hear it because she wanted you to have a normal childhood, but your father made sure you were next to us.”
“I know.” I sighed. “I think that is what killed her, she couldn’t handle that I loved fighting and I wanted to be a strong man for my mate when I found her. Sadly I still haven't found her either and I am beginning to give up on that.”
“I think you will find her in New York in a few more years.” Mary smiled. “But it could be sooner as long as you let Oliver do his protecting of Soma and you rest yourself and wait for your mate. She is in Oliver’s plan, so another Lycan mated to a werewolf. A perfect storm.”
“Wait you know who my mate is?” I asked almost wanting to jump up and down. I wanted to know who she was, what she was like.
“Oh no,” she said shaking her head. “I just know you will find her there. If the Moon Goddess gave me that power to see your mate and who she is, what would be the fun in finding her.” she smile again, I could tell she knew who my mate was but wanted to respect me and not tell me. “Now go and train for a bit, or go for a walk. You have a long journey coming so you better keep your wits about yourself.” she looked over at Nathaniel. “I am getting tired my love, I know you have a dinner party to prepare for come find me when it’s ready.” Mary left us standing there. It was nice to see her better, she wasn't looking good when she was still recovering.
“Are you excited now about your new assignment? Well more like a new home.” Nathaniel asked.
“Yeah I think I am ready, when are you going to arrange for our trip?” I asked as we walked down the hall towards the kitchen.
“Well I want to do a dinner tonight, and then maybe tomorrow we can get your guys on the plane home. Oliver already told us we could come and visit, we explained a lot of questions he had, but I know you are going to have to explain more things to him when it comes down to us.” he smiled. “But I don’t have anything to worry about you because you are our best son too.”
“I am excited to go back to New York, but I don’t know if I could make that my home, especially after I find my mate.”
“I have a feeling you’re not going to want to leave. Her family all lives with Oliver’s pack so I am sure she will be good at convincing you to stay,” he said with a cheesy smile. “But you better bring her here to meet us, you know for our sakes. I am sure Mary is dying to meet her.”
“Mary knows who she is, why won't she tell me?” I whined.
“Because it’s what the Moon Goddess would wait, it’s all about the hunt and the chase. Your mate is probably just as stubborn as you if not worse. So I am sure you are going to have your hands full and it’s going to be fun to finally see you calm down and start a family.”
“I’ve always wanted my kids and you know this. I hope she feels the same, but I will not rush having kids it will happen when it happens.” I said rubbing my neck. “So tomorrow huh?”
“Yep,” he said patting me on my back. “Now we prepare for a party.” he smiled before disappearing into the kitchen.
