Chapter 30
Oliver’s POV
I was a little nervous about my date with Soma tonight, but Drew was happy, he promised he would behave, I just hope everything goes right. Nick wants me to tell her everything and try and get her to understand what is going on. I knew that was a bad idea, you cannot just lay everything on the table and alter someone’s whole life in a flash, but I had to at least get her started on what we are and what it means to us as a couple when we make that move.
I was worried she would reject me, and that scared Drew. I knew it would make it worse than I did, but that’s because he’s already past in love with her. I had to get to know her and understand how she thought because she lived in a human world, she doesn’t even know anything about our world, and her world is about to crash down on her. That scared me too.
“You nervous?” Micah asked coming into my room.
“Yes and no, more worried about her not accepting us,” I said fixing my tie. “But I won't know until we’ve talked and seen how she reacts.”
“Well I’ll be around in case something happens with the vampires, I know they are watching her so they are going to know you are going out with her tonight. Keep your guards up, if shit goes down bring her here at least we can protect her.”
“Yeah, I will,” I said finishing up. “I guess it’s time for me to pick her up, watch yourself too.”
“You know the vampires can't hurt me, I’m immortal,” he said laughing, I rolled my eyes.
I finished getting ready and headed to Soma’s apartment. Drew was quiet which was not him but that didn’t matter, as long as he didn’t jump on her and try and mark her. I wanted tonight to go smoothly, but I had a feeling something was going to happen. I had to keep my guard up since the vampire has been messing with her, I couldn’t take a chance.
Pulling into the parking lot, I was nervous. More nervous than I thought I would be. I wasn't sure if I could control Drew now seeing I couldn’t even control my heart. Closing my eyes and taking a deep breath I managed to calm myself down.
Knocking on the door, Nick answered the door. “Welcome, glad you could find the place,” he said moving out of the way.
I smiled but didn’t say anything, I had to keep my cool. Looking around her apartment, it was small and clean. She was most likely still getting ready, so I sat down on the couch with Nick.
“Nervous huh?” he whispered.
“No,” I said without looking at him. “I just hope she understands what is happening tonight, I don’t want to scare her.”
“Well she needs to know the truth, and she doesn’t need to be in the dark about what you are,” he said getting up. “But don’t worry I am sure y two are going to be fine too.”
“I know we’re going to be fine, while we’re gone I think you should contact the Lycan King and get a meeting with him, so I can have his blessing to be with her, I don’t want to go to war with anyone, but I will for her.”
Before he could respond, Soma came into the living room. She was wearing a nice dress and her hair was done nicely.
“Sorry I was delayed.” she blushed. “I didn’t like what I was wearing so I thought I’d change.”
“You look good enough to eat,” Nick said giggling at her. I had to control myself, I didn’t like how he was looking at her, but I knew they were just friends.
“Are you ready to go?” I said breaking them apart.
“Yes! I am starving, Nick wouldn't let me eat all day because he thought I would chicken out on this date.” she half-smiled at me.
“Alright, me too.” I laughed. “Come on,” I said looking at Nick, he watched us closely.
I knew he was going to be coming to the restaurant, I was hoping he and Micah would meet up and get a plan going, but it didn’t matter.
I helped her into the passenger side and glanced over near the door Nick was there with a couple of men who I was assuming were other Lycans. I just hoped we didn’t have any issues with Nick, I didn’t want to kill him but I would. It would probably cause issues with Soma and I but I couldn’t let him take her away from me, or prevent us from being mates.
Once we were at the restaurant, I could tell Soma was relaxing a little more. I wasn't sure how I was going to break the ice on the topic we needed to talk about, but we had to have the conversation tonight, she needed to know everything about Detective Marks and what he was going to try and do. I just hope she believed what I had to tell her and didn’t run away.
“So how long have you lived in New York?” she said clearing her throat. Her voice made my heart melt.
“Almost all my life, but we live in the mountains away from all of this,” I said taking a drink of my water. “I have a coffee shop because it’s what Micah and I always dreamed of doing besides pack work.”
“What do you mean pack work?”
“Well I know Nick and you have spoken about werewolves and vampires, I am a werewolf,” I said clearing my throat. I watched for a reaction, she kept her face straight. It was like she was processing what I was telling her. I hoped she understands.
“So why are you and Detective Marks interested in me knowing about all of this?” she said glancing around.
“You are my mate.”
“Mate? Like a dog?”
“No, no nothing like that. You see werewolves have mates, it’s kind of like choosing a wife and marrying. But we have a deeper connection, a connection by the Moon Goddess herself. She chose you and me for each other, we would be unstoppable if you are willing to accept it.”
“Okay so what am I?” she asked taking in a deep breath.
I couldn’t tell if she was understanding this, or if she was asking questions because she wanted to prove me wrong or call me crazy.
“Well you’re part Lycan and part something else, but we’re not sure,” I said taking a deep breath.
“Lycan, but I don’t feel like a werewolf, I am just human. I bleed red, and have no animal desires,” she said crossing her arms, I could tell she wasn't having this. She was getting upset and I didn't want this to go down like it was.
“I would have to show you for you to fully understand. But Detective Marks can and wants to use you to kill off the werewolves.” I said trying to stay on track, but I could tell by the body language she wanted to get up and run away from me. I hated feeling this way, but this was something I couldn’t avoid.
“How is a Detective going to use me to hurt the werewolves?” she asked.
“Either turning you against us or killing you,” I said shrugging my shoulders. “He wants to go to the Lycan King with you, and I know he is going to use you to do something to the Lycans. I just don’t know what yet, and I don’t want to put you in the middle of anything.”
“Well let’s say I believe all of this, how are we going to protect each other?”
“You come back with me to my pack lands, I introduce you to the pack and bring you in as Luna. You would be protected there, no vampire would dare to come into my land.”
“So you would force me to stay in your lands?” she said crossing her arms again. “Look I like you and all that, but all this talk doesn’t make sense,” she said shaking her head. “I think after tonight this will be the last time we chat. Look I am thankful you helped me with my store and kept me from closing, but all of this is too much,” she said getting up and walking away from the table.
Instantly I got up and ran after her, I didn’t want her running away from me, this wasn't how things were supposed to go. I wasn't sure how else I could get her to understand how serious this was, and she would be in danger.
“Soma!” I growled, she stopped and turned to face me.
“Please,” she said putting her hands up. “I thought we could have something, but you are not sane.”
“Please come back with me to my pack lands, I will show you so you can understand what I am and what you are destined to be with,” I said wanting to grab her and kiss her. “Please if you are still not convinced I will leave you alone I promise.”
“Fine,” she said looking up at me, I could see a hunger in her eyes. I needed her. “Maybe this weekend we can make a trip.”
“Deal, now can we please finish dinner, I promise I am more romantic than this?” I smiled.
“Okay, no more weird talk,” she said walking back with me to the table.
