Chapter 39

Soma’s POV

Waking up the next morning, my head still hurt. Oliver was standing by the window looking out, he looked like he was worried about something.

“Oliver?” I whispered.

“You’re awake, how does your head feel?” he said turning to face me, but he didn’t move from his spot.

“It hurts but I am okay.” I have smiled.

“Are you hungry?” he asked finally walking closer to me. “Most of the pack is already gone, so we will have the kitchen to ourselves and you don’t have to worry about questions and being bothered.”

“Yeah, I could eat something,” I said getting up. “But first can I take a shower and then we can head downstairs?”

“How about you take a shower, and I will start on breakfast?” he said walking towards the door. “That way you don’t have to wait for breakfast any longer than you have already.”

“Alright.” I half-smiled.

After he left, I grabbed some clothes and headed for the shower. The water felt nice, I don’t think I’ve had a nice shower like this one. I could get used to this, I knew it would be asking a lot from me if I moved in with Oliver, but so far everything seemed to be going okay. I was happy, and it felt right, so I wasn't as afraid as I thought I would be.

Walking down the stairs, I heard Oliver talking to someone. It was a female voice and she seemed like she wasn't happy I was there. I cleared my throat and Oliver looked up.

“As I was saying, she is staying as long as she wants,” he said looking up at me. “Now if you don’t like it, you are welcomed to go back into town and be the town whore again.”

The girl sighed and left out a back door. I took a few more steps into the kitchen. “Why didn’t she want me here?”

“Don't worry it was nothing, some don’t understand why you and I are not mated. They think it is weird.”

“And do you?” I questioned.

“I would love to be mated with you, and have you as my Luna, but clearly you are not ready and you are still trying to understand this whole thing. I don’t want to rush you into this, and we honestly don’t know enough about where you come from, so until we do I think we shouldn’t be mated,” he said putting the plates on the table. “Now if you wanted to be marked and mated then I wouldn't stop, but right now I feel you are not ready to rush into this headfirst.”

“I think you’re right about,” I said sitting down across from him. I was a virgin and have yet to be close enough to a man to feel like we would be together forever. I didn’t want to rush that with Oliver, even though I could tell I wanted to mark and mate with me as he put it.

“So I wanted to take you on a drive, I have a special place I love to go but we cannot get to it walking it would take all day,” he said chewing his food. “I think you might end up loving it too.”

“I’d like to see,” I said finishing my coffee. “And maybe after this, you can drop me off at my apartment, I need to get some stuff, feed the cat and things.”

“Did you want to come back here?”

“No, I have to open my store tomorrow, with Nick being gone I need to get my head out of the clouds and make sure people know I am still in business.”

“Aw, well we can plan another trip up here this weekend to give you a break away from the city,” he said taking our plates. “I would rather you stay here until Nick gets back, but I won’t force you or anything,” he said with a smile.

“Well I’m thankful for that, I know you and Nick are worried because of Detective Marks, but I am not worried about him,” I said shrugging my shoulders. “I guess I should be nice he was able to do things to me, but didn’t get in trouble but I am not going to let him stop me from doing my life. I came here to start over and that is exactly what I want to do.”

“Well, I have a feeling the Detective wants to hurt you and won’t stop until he does,” Oliver said with a frown. “But as long as I am around you don’t have to worry about him doing anything. I promise to protect you as long as you allow me to.”

“Thanks, Oliver, but I have a feeling he will do everything in his power to hurt you too,” I said with a sad face. “I hope we can get past this and things will calm down and he will move on to someone else or something.”

“I’ve known Detective Marks for a long time, he isn't going to move on from this until he gets what he wants,” Oliver said walking closer to me. “I am not going to give him what he wants, he will have to kill me for it, and even then he won’t be able to have it.”

“What does he want?”

“You.”

“But that doesn’t make any sense, he doesn’t seem like he’s interested in me at all,” I said shaking my head. It didn’t make sense what he was saying, Detective Marks has been nothing but mean to me, he doesn’t want me to do anything. “Detective Marks needs to be fired.”

“No there is something a lot better for him, but sadly we cannot do anything. It would cause a lot more problems for us, and I don’t want to put you in the middle of this.”

“But I already am in the middle of this. He started things with me when he first came into my store. It’s like he thinks we’re going to do something bad.” I said confused. It still didn’t make sense as to why Detective Marks didn’t want Oliver and me together.

“Soma he will do worse stuff to you, that is why I want you to come and stay on pack lands, at least if he does try and come for you, he will have to go through me,” he said touching my face. “I am only trying to ensure he doesn’t do anything, I know you want time to think about this, and I will protect you until and if you decide you want to live here with me. I hope you want to live here with me, I think you could put some happiness on the girls. They need someone they can look up to.”

“But that’s big for me,” I said with a sad face. “I am not even old enough to drink, and I am already making all kinds of decisions hoping I am not making a mistake. This is bigger if I commit to something and I fail at it, it will be bad.”

“I’m not asking you to do this alone, I promise we will do this together, at least when you’re ready. But honestly, I just want you as close to me as possible. That way we can get to know each other and see if you want to be with me. I’m already falling for you, just because you are beautiful, smart, and relaxed. You are taking this all as it comes at you, it takes a strong person to do that.”

“Thanks, Oliver,” I said looking around. I wasn't committing to anything at least not yet. I know he means well, but this is more stressful on me than I want. “So how about we take that drive and see what happens after.” I smiled.

“Good idea,” he said grabbing his keys. I followed him out to a car, a couple of men were standing there, they bowed their heads and got into the vehicle behind us.

“Are they coming with us?” I asked as we got into the car.

“They are following us, but no they won’t be around us. They have just added security since everything happened last night, I want to ensure you are safe.”

I didn’t say anything, I was a little worried this was going to be a thing. I didn’t want people having to protect me, I didn’t need it. I knew how to defend myself, I just didn’t get a chance to do it with Detective Marks partly because he was a cop and I didn’t want added trouble, but now that I know what kind of cop he was, I would defend myself.

I wasn't going to let him think he could get over on me, I had to make sure he knew who he was messing with. I would hurt him if I had to, I wasn't sure if I was strong enough to kill him, but if it came to his life or mine I would do everything in my power to make sure he died over me.
