Chapter 55
Soma’s POV
After Nick and I were done with our coffee we headed over to my store. I was happy he was finally back, and I wanted to know more about the Lycans.
“So tell me how is Lycan's world?” I asked without trying to sound like an ass.
“Eh, not so much different from what you’re used to except we turn into wolves and have some crazy powers.” Nick mused. “So the two of you are doing well?”
“Yeah I wanted everything to work out and then this had to come up,” I said with a sad face. “When you disappeared I figured it had something to do with what was coming. I am a little sad that they may not give me any choice about where I want to go. I feel like this is a custody battle and I am this little girl that can’t make the decision.”
“Yeah, I don’t even know how to respond to you,” Nick complained. “But we might get some help with this, I have someone coming into New York, I don’t know when he will get here but he’s coming.”
“How is he going to help us?”
“Well, he’s the reason you are in this situation. If your mother and father wouldn't have hidden you this might have been avoided.”
“Yeah, and I would be married to someone that I’d never love,” I said rolling my eyes.
“Well that is true,” he said as I unlocked the door. “But what if he was the only one you ever knew?”
“I still wouldn't love him,” I said over my shoulder. “Why all of these questions? Do you know for sure if they are going to force me back?”
“Well if King Gideon gets wind of what is happening, all he has to do is show up and demand that you be turned over and the Council will do as he asks because he is the King in your realm,” Nick said clearing his throat. “But if you two mate then he doesn’t have any claim on you and you two can go about your lives.”
“I don’t think it’s that simple.” I frowned, I knew he was lying. He knew just as well as I did if we mated things wouldn't turn out the way we wanted and they would probably kill Oliver because of this, I didn’t want to take any chances, I would have to wait and see what happens.
“Life isn't simple, but like I said I have someone coming into town that might be able to help us.” He said walking towards the window. “Now that I am here we need to go to dinner, just you and me,” he said turning to face me.
“Is there a reason why we must go to dinner? Why don’t you come and stay at the packhouse with us?” I asked.
“No, no,” he said shaking his head. “I barely trust your boyfriend, I don’t want to be around a lot of them, we don’t know how much aggression they might have towards us.”
“I don’t think you are giving them a fair shot,” I said. “They are nice people and they have been towards me.” I smiled. “Besides I want you to come to dinner with us tonight, and you can stay the night and see how things are.”
“I don’t know if that is a good idea, but maybe,” he said. “I would love to see the pack lands, I hear the werewolves have lots of lands,” he said excitedly.
“Oliver and his family do have a lot to offer, they don’t need to come in the world like they do but Oliver likes the coffee shop,” I said shrugging my shoulders.
“Yeah this pack is a little weird, so far they haven't acted like I’ve been taught,” Nick said looking a little confused. “I guess we will see tonight if they are as gentle as you put it.”
“Then it’s settled, you can stay in my room and we can stay up all night talking about your adventure and everything that has happened here while you were gone,” I said walking over to him. “So how was London other than the stress you had to deal with?”
“Eh I miss it a little, but then again this city is starting to grow on me. If you’re going to be here then I want to be here too,” he said hugging me. “I know I haven't been the greatest and when everything is said and done I hope you can forgive me.”
“There’s nothing to forgive.” I giggled.
I wasn't sure if he was not telling me something, or if he was as scared as we were about this whole thing. Well if things don’t go my way maybe Nick will be by my side and things will be okay. I would hurt if Oliver wasn't there, but I had a feeling he was going to do a lot more to ensure we are together forever.
“So when you’re not busy what do you do here?” Nick said breaking us apart.
“Well, I go and hang out with Oliver on my breaks, other than that I am here awaiting my customers.” I smiled.
“Well you sure have grown up since the last time I saw you.” he mused. “I guess I should let you out into the world a little more huh.”
“Shut up Nick.” I giggled.
“Seriously though you looking so much happier.” he laughed. “I was stressing things were going bad here.”
“Well you should have answered your phone, you would have been surprised.” I giggled. “But yes I am glad you convinced me to give Oliver a shot. Things have been interesting and fun and I think I’m falling for him.”
“Finally someone you can call home.” Nick mused. “I guess I can't stay around forever huh when you two officially mate it's going to be interesting.”
I didn’t say anything, but he was right. It was going to be different when Oliver and I have sex. We are supposed to become one and then I will have babies and be a wife, it was a lot to think about but I wasn't getting younger and it was only a matter of time before I’d want the whole family thing.
“I don’t think anything should change.” I smiled. “You are my best friend and we’ve known each other all our lives, I know you and Oliver will be happy as friends.”
When he didn’t say anything I knew he wasn't thinking like I was. I wanted to know more about why Nick doesn’t think he would get along with Oliver. He didn’t look like he wanted to talk about it so I didn’t press it. Maybe asking Oliver would help me understand this. I felt like a total outcast, and in reality, I was because they claim to be two different species.
“Are you ready to head home?” Oliver’s voice filled my ears.
“Huh?” I said shaking my head. “Sorry I was lost in thoughts, yeah I guess it is time to go home. Where’s Nick?”
“He went across the street to get some coffee before we head home. He said he is following us?” he asked curiously.
“Yeah, I invited him for dinner.” I half-smiled. “I meant to come over there and let you know. I want Nick close to us too, I don’t want anything happening to him.”
“No worries as long as he is okay with this,” he said wrapping his arms around me. “So are you cooking or am I?”
“You will,” I said sticking my tongue out. “I like your cooking.”
“And what you’ve had it once?” he said rolling his eyes. “I’ve already mind-linked some omegas to get him a room together and to make sure there is a feast waiting for us when we get home. Let’s convince Nick to stay that way you’ll move in faster,” he said kissing my nose. “Ready to go Nick?” he said to ask the door opened.
“Yeah, I got everyone something, Micah told me to tell you to head home without him,” Nick said handing both Oliver and my coffee.
“Alright, he must be meeting someone,” Oliver said clearing his throat. “Let’s head home, just follow me I won’t go too fast.” he half-smiled.
“Right,” Nick said rolling his eyes.
I followed Oliver out and then locked the door behind me. It was getting cold, winter would be here any day now it seemed. I couldn’t wait for the first snowfall, I was excited to play in it when it arrived anyways.
“What are you thinking about love?”
“The snow that is coming,” I said looking out the window. “I cannot wait to play in it.”
“Me too, we always have a traditional run in the first snowfall, maybe I can convince you to come and play in the snow with a bunch of wolves.” he smiled.
“I would love to,” I said looking at him. I couldn’t imagine him as a wolf but he claims he is. I will have to believe him until I saw it I guess. I was a little afraid to see a wild wolf because the last ones I saw almost killed me.
