Chapter 28

Soma’s POV

Opening my eyes, I could see. I could finally see! Looking around the room, the door was closed. I owe Nick an apologize the way I acted last night. I guess I was scared and confused about what he was trying to tell me. I still didn’t believe what he said, but maybe I could give it another try and find out if he was telling me all of that last night because he didn’t want me to focus on my lost vision.

Getting out of bed, I made my way to the living room Nick was sound asleep. I wanted to make him some kind of breakfast, but I figured it would wake him up. I just hoped he didn’t freak out when he saw me doing things.

Pulling out the eggs and bacon, I started breakfast, it didn’t take long for him to smell it. His eyes popped open and he set up.

“How are you cooking?” he questioned.

“I can see,” I said looking at him, his eyes were as big as balloons.

“When?”

“When I woke up, so whatever they used on me wasn't supposed to last long,” I said shrugging my shoulders. I continued to cook, Nick disappeared into the bathroom for about twenty minutes, he must have known breakfast was done. He was clean and dry.

“Wow it smells amazing, I haven't had bacon and eggs in a while,” he said rubbing his hands together. “After this what do you want to do?”

“I need to go to work,” I said looking down at my breakfast. I know the Doctor told me to take it easy, but he didn’t have answers as to what was wrong with my eyes, so I am not going to take his advice, besides he wasn't the one paying my bills.

“What if Detective Marks comes around again?” he asked chewing some egg.

“I don’t know what I will do about him,” I said looking away from him. I was still upset with everything that he’d done. I wanted to go to the police station, but I figured it wouldn't work. “I was thinking about filing a report on him.”

“I don’t know if that is a good idea, Soma,” Nick said shaking his head. “What if he is the one that takes the case, he is going to cause more issues for you.”

“Nick, I cannot let someone bully me,” I growled. “I don’t know why he seems to think it’s okay to come and bother me when I haven't done anything wrong. I need to talk to Oliver too.”

“I think that is a good idea, you two need to talk,” he said chewing more food. “Besides you still have a date you need to get into.”

“I don’t know if having a date with anyone is a good idea, and Detective Marks has something against Oliver and me even being around each other,” I said trying to eat but I’d lost my stomach, I felt the need to puke.

After I finished I brushed my teeth and took a quick shower. I knew Nick was going to fight me on going to my store, but I couldn’t afford to take more time off. I already owed Tim money for the product that would be coming in.

“I don’t think you should go to work today, why don’t we stop and have some coffee with Oliver and his brother and see what they can suggest we do?” Nick suggested as he cleaned up the kitchen.

“I know you don’t want me to go to work, but I need to. I cannot afford my bills.” I said putting my hair up in a ponytail. “Maybe after work we can stop by and have some coffee. Or better yet why don’t you go and have some fun.”

“Soma, I am not going to leave you alone especially after what happened. I don’t know what Detective Marks has planned. I think you should hang out with Oliver, I am sure he has a lot to offer. You need someone to protect you when I am not here.” he said walking over to me.

“I don’t need protection,” I said shaking my head. “Why don’t you stay here and hang out, I’ll only be gone a few hours and when I get back we can order some Chinese or something.”

“Not happening, I guess you’re going to have to make me work,” Nick said washing his hands. “So let’s go to work and then we’re going for coffee, maybe we can invite Oliver and his brother out for dinner, his brother is kind of cute,” he said dancing around.

“Maybe we will have to see how today goes, I may not want to go out after,” I said shaking my head. “Where are the keys, I need to drive.”

“Here baby girl,” he said tossing me the keys.

Driving to the shop was short and quiet. I was glad Nick didn’t talk my head off or try and explain anything from last night. I wasn't ready to face that, and honestly, I still didn’t believe any of that nonsense. It couldn’t be true, there weren’t vampires, werewolves, or Lycan among the humans. Those were all fictional characters. I am hoping Nick being back in America will bring him back to earth he kind of scared me last night.

Opening the store felt like I’d done every day. I felt at home at my store and I needed to be here as much as Nick didn’t want me to.

“How are you feeling?” Nick asked.

“Better,” I said looking at him. “Something about being here makes me feel relaxed as long as we don’t have any visitors that I don’t want to see anyways,” I said walking back to the office, I grabbed the cash drawer and Nick turned the sign to open.

“I think we’re ready to make some money,” he said smiling. “I’m going to run over and get some coffee, your usual?”

“Yeah and can you bring me some cookies, they are killer from there.” I smiled at him.

“Yep,” he said before leaving the store. He looked back a couple of times, but he knew I would be safe here.

I watched Nick disappear into the coffee shop. I took a deep breath and looked around. I was glad that Detective Marks wasn't messing with my store, I hoped he didn’t come around today and mess with me. I finally have my vision back, I was still debating whether I was going to press charges on him, I wasn't sure if it would do me any good, but I had to do something. I wasn't afraid of him anymore, I think I got over that when all he could do was blind me for a little while.

The chime to the door startled me, I turned and my worst fear was standing in front of me. He had a smile bigger than I’ve ever seen.

“Glad to see you aren't blind anymore,” he said coming closer to me, I backed up.

“Get out of my store!” I growled, but it did nothing. He took it as a challenge, he cornered me against the wall. “What do you want now?”

“I just came to check on you to make sure you can see. I didn’t want my herb blinding you forever, now what fun would that be?”

“I don’t care,” I said shaking my head, my body was trembling.

“Don't worry Soma when I come for you, you will be worse than you are now. I will control you and when the time comes you will call me master.”

“In your dreams,” I growled. “I will not bow to you.”

“Are you finally accepting what you are, you’re not afraid of me?” he smiled.

“When all you can do to me is make me blind?” I questioned. “I don’t think I can fear a man as weak as you.”

“Detective Marks I thought I smelled a stench in the air.” Oliver snapped as he walked through the door.

My heart was in my throat, I was still against the wall, Detective Marks didn’t turn to face him. He smiled at me. “And what brings you over here Mr. Stone? Care to cause more issues with Soma and her innocent shop?”

“You are going to bother her whether or not I am around.” Oliver snapped. “Get the fuck away from here before I rip your body into two.”

“Careful of your threats, remember I can easily make you go away.” Detective Marks said turning to face him. “I have your mate in my corner, one snap of her neck and you both die, care to challenge me?”

“You wouldn't get the chance,” Oliver growled taking two more steps towards us. “I’d leave the store before someone gets hurts.”

“Eh it’s too soon for you to die Oliver, and you know this isn't a place to have a battle,” he said glancing over his shoulder. “I came to make sure she has her sight, I didn’t want to blind her permanently at least not yet,” he said as he walked out the door.

“Are you okay?” Oliver said coming closer to me.

“I am now,” I said taking a deep breath. “I thought he was going to hurt me again.”

“Please have dinner with me, we have a lot to talk about. I need you to understand some things as Detective Marks isn’t going to leave you alone until something bad happens,” he said touching my face. “Please?”

“Okay, we can do it tomorrow.”

“Not tonight,” Nick said walking over to us. “You need to hear him out.”

“Okay,” I said feeling defeated.
