Chapter 46

Nick’s POV

Hearing that they arrested Oliver I wasn't too happy with this news. I knew I needed to get back to New York, but I still hadn't found Nathaniel, I needed to know more about Soma and why she was so special to everyone. Yes, I knew she was a Princess but that doesn’t explain why everyone wants a piece of her, and why I was instructed to watch over her all these years. I loved Soma, but I didn’t understand her at all. She was a supposed Lycan but no one could tell me how she wasn't able to shift or knew anything about herself. Maybe she was just a human and when I find her father he can explain things and everything will make sense.

“Where the hell is you, Nathaniel,” I growled wanting to just give up and go back to New York. I knew Soma needed me and I left her like a crazy friend. I guess I wanted to solve everything, but things weren’t getting solved here. Even though Nathaniel showed up at the castle he didn’t stick around to talk to me and that pissed me off. He knew I was in charge of keeping his daughter safe but didn’t want to give me the time. It figures.

“Why are you looking for me?” Nathaniel asked coming out of the dark.

“Nathaniel finally,” I said taking a deep breath.

“I’m not going to say it again Lycan,” he growled. “Tell me why are you searching for me.”

“I need answers,” I said crossing my arms. I knew he was the King but I wasn't sure how he would react if I bowed so I didn’t. “About Soma.”

“What about her?” he narrowed his eyes. “You’re with King Gideon I am not going to tell you anything about her,” he said taking a step towards me. “Even though you two weren’t friends at the

palace, so I’m going to throw you a bone.”

“She’s in danger,” I said taking a deep breath. He didn’t react which wasn't a good thing, maybe I was not reading him correctly, but I needed to know. “King Gideon wants to take her from her mate and force her to bear children for him.”

“So he wants to make her a slave. He wanted to do that when she was born, that is why I hid her. How did he find out where she was?”

“I don’t know,” I said shaking my head. “When he found out about her, he sent word to me. I was forced to come back here since I am Lycan.” I said with a sad face. “I’ve been trying to avoid telling him too much as she doesn’t want or know anything about her past.”

“And I want to keep it that way, with her knowledge about what she is and how much power she has, could pose a problem for everyone including the humans.”

“I don’t understand, I didn’t even know she was Lycan and now she is?” I asked confused.

“Yeah you wouldn't have known, she is under a witch's protection, her mother and I thought it would protect her from this. You see when Gideon wanted to overthrow me, and wanted my daughter for his Queen. I came to the human world, we found a witch and the witch put a spell on her to hide her from this pain that is going to be inflicted if things don’t change and if Gideon isn't stopped.” he said pacing around. “But since Gideon knows about her, I am sure the other supernaturals know about her, so who knows how many we have after her now.”

“Wait I don’t understand, why is she in so much danger now?” I asked concerned.

“People want power and they don’t care how they get it,” he said rolling his eyes. “Where is my daughter now?”

“New York,” I said taking a deep breath.

“Well then I suggest you get back to her, you being here leaves her unprotected and that is something that isn't a good thing.”

“But she is protected.” I countered.

“How?” he narrowed his eyes at me.

“Well, she is mated with werewolves. She is with her mate and he promises that he’ll keep her safe.”

“How do you know he isn't tricking you to get close to her to force her hand?” he growled.

I could tell he wasn't happy that I left her alone. But I didn’t feel anything bad about Oliver everything about him seemed on point with how a werewolf was. “I trust him, and he doesn’t seem to care about what she is, he only wants her.”

“That’s my point, how do you know he isn't doing this to gain her trust?” he growled again I could tell he was losing control of his Lycan.

“Well I am usually one that can read people, that is why I was assigned to protect her isn't it?” I quizzed. I was a little pissed off that he thought I was putting her in danger. I knew Soma was safe, I trusted Oliver more than I trusted anyone else, especially with Soma. He didn’t want to hurt her while we were together, so I know he doesn’t want to use her either.

“I don’t know, are you? How do I know you’re not going to help Gideon get what he wants in the end?” he growled. “I want to see my daughter, you will arrange it to happen,” he said before leaving me standing there.

Sure I could arrange for it to happen, but I don’t even know how to get in touch with him. “Hey, how will I get in touch with you?”

“I’ll get in touch with you,” he said before disappearing into the darkness.

I walked back to my hotel room, well at least now I found him and can go back to New York. I couldn’t wait to see Soma, I just hoped everything was going well for them, I didn’t want to have to worry about heading into another drama zone. My body was exhausted, I collapsed onto my bed and passed out.

Morning peaked around, I was excited to go back to New York. I would call Soma as soon as I landed, and have them pick me up. Taking a shower, I felt relaxed, that was until I came out of the bathroom.

“So Nathaniel came to see you?” King Gideon said standing by the window.

“How, how did you get in here?” I growled. “And yeah he came to see me, wants me to ensure his daughter is safe.”

“Yeah well she will be when she is where she belongs,” he said looking at me. “But you are going to help him arent you?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I said throwing a t-shirt on. “He wants me to protect her, that is what I am going to do. I’d suggest you leave this alone, Nathaniel doesn’t seem like he wants you anywhere near her.”

“Of course, he doesn’t.” he smiled. “But what he doesn’t know is, well she is mine, and two he doesn’t have a choice in the matter. He lost his rank when he was banned from our world,” he said coming closer to me. “If he gets to the girl before I do, I will bring death and destruction to the little bit of family you have left.”

“You know just as well as I do that they cannot be harmed per the code.” I snapped. “So save your threats I am not scared of you or what you think you can do. I am bound to the Princess and if you are threatening her, consider it a death sentence.”

“Oh.” he laughed at me. “You think you can just call shots?” he growled grabbing me around my throat. “I could kill you now and that would be the end of everything. You would be one less wolf in my way to what I want.”

“But then you’d have a whole community of wolves coming after you.” I snapped. “They are going to protect her better than I can, it’s only a matter of time before she chooses Oliver as her mate and they become one,” I said forcing him to let go of my neck. “So unless you want to lose everything about her I’d play nice if I were you.”

“Don't play a game that you’ll lose at Nick.” he mused.

“You should be telling yourself that, as far as I can tell from here you are going to lose and there is nothing you can do about it.” I snapped. “Forgive me but I need to finish getting ready, I’m heading back to New York and you are making it hard for me to check out.”

“I am going to tell you one more time if Nathaniel gets anywhere near Soma I am going to kill your family whether by code or not. You are threatening the Kingdom by siding with a villain, and this isn't going to end well for either one of you.”

“I’m not concerned with your threats, my family is safe. If you harm one hair on their heads, you will be banished and then killed by the Council, you know the rules as do I. You are lucky they didn’t kill you for overthrowing Nathaniel.” I said before leaving him standing there.

I wanted to get the hell out before I killed King Gideon, even though we’re supposed to be on the same side, he has done nothing to win me over.
