Chapter 40
Detective Marks POV
Following Soma around was tiring, but with the Vampire King on my back, I needed to act fast. He wanted to start a war with the werewolves and Lycans but he wasn't sure the girl was the one we were looking for. I knew for a fact that she was the girl we were looking for, she has that smell.
I knew the Lycan King was interested in her and that just made things a little more clear, even if Alec didn’t listen to me, he will when I bring the girl to him. He will even give me what I want, and finally, I could get rid of the werewolf problem once and for all. I couldn’t wait, but I also knew I couldn’t jump quickly because Soma found Oliver before I could take her or convince her to come with me willingly. Maybe if I turned her things would look better, she would be a good vampire a strong one too. With her witch past and her father as the King when she was born, the power with her was endless.
Shaking myself out of my thoughts, first I had to get her away from Oliver, and from my sources, her friend flew out of the country so I cannot use him to bring her to me. I guess I have to wait until she and Oliver aren't together, then I will take her and make sure she cannot get away from me this time.
Watching Oliver’s warriors from a distance, I could take so many of them out before they had any idea who was attacking them. They had an attack last night and it was glorious except he almost got Soma killed, if she would have been hurt I would have tortured him slowly to death. I didn’t care about his mate's bond with her, if he cared he would have made sure she didn’t knock herself out. But thankfully he managed to save her, too bad he wouldn't be able to save her from me. I was going to make it so hard for him to even come close to us once she is mine. He will be begging to know where she is.
My phone rang, I looked down and growled. “Yes, Captain?” I said starting the car.
“Where are you, Marks? You have people here waiting to talk to you, and you’re nowhere to be found!” he yelled on the phone.
“Sorry I am on my case, I am gathering evidence,” I said rolling my eyes. I hated my captain, I could snap his neck and take his job, I wanted to so bad.
“Well get back to base, I will tell them to go and take a lunch and come back in an hour. You’ll be back here within the hour?”
“Yeah, yeah I’ll be there,” I said hanging the phone up.
Man, that guy pisses me off, I didn’t want to go back to the base. I had a good spot so I could see Oliver’s packhouse and I was out of sight. Pulling out onto the road, I stopped and bought myself a coffee before heading back to base.
Who was waiting for me to talk? I didn’t have anyone in mind, but that didn’t mean someone wasn't checking on me. They could have called me rather than showing up at my work making things weird and putting my captain on edge.
“Finally, where the fuck have you been?” Captain Asshat asked.
“I told you I was following up with a lead, I don’t have time to sit around here doing now.” I snapped at him. “Where are these visitors of mine?”
“In your office, they are mean looking so don’t bite off too much of your tongue.” he grinned leaving me at my office.
I opened the door and two men stood by the window. “Nikolai, Wayne what gives me the pleasure?” I asked.
“Vampire King.” Nikolai turned to face me. “He wants us to help you with the girl,” he said sitting down. “Unless of course, you are good.”
“I am fine,” I said sitting down. “But since you’re here why don’t you help me with the wolves, they are more of a pain in the ass than the girl is.”
“You already know we cannot help you with them,” Wayne said. “But we can have some fun while we’re here, we cannot kill anyone though. But accidents do happen.” he smiled.
“So where is the girl now?”
“With the wolves.” I snapped rolling my eyes. “If you would have called me, I could have told you where I was, but you wanted to show up at my work and give me a hard time. Now I don’t know if she is still there, now I will have to find her again.” I said rubbing my neck. “But like I said since the two of you have messed up my mission you two will help.”
“Fine,” Nikolai said rolling his eyes. “I know you need it,” he said sarcastically.
“So come back here after dark and we’ll get our plan into action,” I said getting up. “I have work to do, and I know the humans are probably whining because I am still in here talking to you.” I opened the door and they left.
So the vampire King is getting impatient I wonder why? Maybe I should call and ask him why send the two best vampires he has. Does he think I am going to fail? I haven’t failed him in a long time and now this is making me wonder if there is more to the story than I know.
“So tell me why were they here?” Officer Pete asked. He is one of those humans that want to turn into a vampire, I promised him I would do it at some point. “Must be serious.”
“Na, there is a girl they are looking for, and I know where she is,” I said leaning against the soda machine. “But don’t worry they aren't going to cause issues to bring out the vampires.”
“I remember the last time they were here, they caused a pretty bad blood bath, so this girl is she a runaway or something?”
“No, no something more but something I cannot tell you about because I don’t know,” I said shrugging my shoulders.
“Do you want some help getting to the girl?” he asked hopefully.
“Maybe, if we succeed I will make you into one of us.” I smiled. I wasn't going to make him into a vampire, it would give me the reason to kill him. He was this annoying little man that would make the vampires look horrible if he were to become on. I had to plan his death carefully because he’s Captain Asshat’s son.
“So what after dark?” he asked looking around.
I rolled my eyes tonight wouldn't be good. “No, no I have to meet with those two and see what the plans are, and then we can set up a date where we can go and do what we need to. You know those two don’t like being around humans, and the last time they were they killed a lot.”
“No kidding, they could have gotten you caught,” he said shaking his head. “Alright just text me when you need me and I will be there.”
“Yeah,” I said walking away from him.
I’ll text him on the night he’ll die. I will make it slow and painful for him, as a vampire I’ve never turned someone because of the drama behind it. The need to watch over them because they don’t know how to control themselves, I didn’t want to be a babysitter, and honestly, most newborn vampires are pathetic and usually get themselves killed rather quickly.
“I’m going to lunch,” I growled at the captain, he didn’t say anything. He knew not to say anything, I was one of his best and he knew when I was out to lunch don’t bother me.
I needed to get back to Oliver’s lands and see if they were still there. I needed to confirm where Soma was since the boys were in touch and I didn’t have the patience to have to hunt for her, even though that was always fun too.
Getting back to his lands, it looked the same. The same patrols, the same quietness there was. That was until I saw her and Oliver getting into a vehicle, I wondered where they were heading. I would have to be careful since they were heading more into their lands. I wasn't sure I would be able to follow them, and I wasn't able to. The roads were blocked off with boulders.
“Fuck!” I growled hitting the steering wheel. I wanted to know where they were heading if they were staying on his lands. I needed to know everything and everyone around her. I was pissed her friend escaped before I could grab him and use him to gain access to her. I knew she had a soft spot for Nick, I wondered why they weren’t even lovers. Maybe it was something in their code, it didn’t matter I knew she cared a lot about him and that was all that mattered.
