Chapter 61

Soma’s POV

After Oliver left I was scared, I didn’t know if they would force me to leave the chair I was sitting in or if they would do this like they are supposed to. I listened to the men talk, a lot of what they were saying wasn't making sense, I guess it wouldn't unless I was one of them.

“When is your mate going to be back?” one of them asked.

“I uh I don’t know, he said he needed some air,” I said shrugging my shoulders. “I will go and find him,” I said getting up.

“No, no the Lycan King is here why don’t you have a seat and I will send someone else to go and get him, please,” he said motioning for me to sit back down.

I wanted to run out of the room, I didn’t want them to go and get Oliver. I wanted to be the one that talked to him and let him know the Lycan King was here, but I didn’t want to push my luck either.

A tall buff looking man walked into the room, he looked at me and smiled big. I was assuming he was the Lycan King, thankfully he didn’t come over and try to talk to me. He took his seat near the men and watched me curiously. I knew he wanted to say something but I was glad when he didn’t.

A few minutes later Nick came in, he touched my shoulder but didn’t say anything. He sat next to the man that came in, so my assumption was right about who he was. I was a little confused as to why Nick was sitting with him and not me.

I wanted to talk to Nick, but he didn’t seem like he was going to move away from the Lycan King, it didn’t matter. At least if I am forced to go with the Lycan King I will have Nick and he can help me figure out a plan to escape. There was no reason I would stay with the Lycan King he wasn't my mate, and I couldn’t love someone that would force anyone to do anything.

“Alright everyone please have a seat.” one of the men said standing up. “I think we can start, Oliver will rejoin us in a moment,” he said looking at Soma and then us. “King Gideon you will be the last one to speak as I want to hear from Soma and Oliver to see if they can convince us to let her stay with him, or if she should go with you where she does belong. The Moon Goddess has never put two different species together, so this is a first for all of us.

My heart started to race, I hoped they would wait for Oliver to come back, I didn’t want to do this alone. Nick wouldn't even look at me, and that scared me the most. Maybe he knew what was going to happen after we left here and he couldn’t bring himself to show he was sorry. I was a little upset with him because he probably knew this would happen and there wasn't anything I could have done to stop it other than rejecting Oliver.

Once Oliver came back in and sat down with me, my heart started to race. I wasn't sure if it was because I could feel him being nervous, or because I was more nervous.

“Are you calmed down a little?” I asked leaning into him.

“No,” he said without looking at me. “By the way your best friend is betraying you, he is to ensure you are not going to fight when the decision is made,” he said looking at me.

“What, what are you talking about?” I asked almost crying out.

“Yeah he said he is here to ensure you go willingly, and that you have someone that you can trust when you are with the Lycan King and his wishes,” he said without looking at me. “I wanted to kill him outside but figured I would hurt you most by doing it without you knowing what kind of friend he us.”

“So you’re telling me the reason we’re in this is that Nick is a spy for the Lycan King?” I whispered, I glanced over at Nick his head was down and his eyes were closed.

I wanted to find out if Oliver was telling the truth. I couldn’t see Nick being one way and then truly another way. I couldn’t understand what was happening, and why my life seemed to be royally screwed.

“I need to talk to Nick,” I said looking at Oliver. I could tell my words pissed him off. His jaw clenched and he refused to look at me. “I want to know the truth, I don’t want to be forced to do anything, but we already know this isn't working out the way we want it to.”

“You aren't going to be able to talk to him because of the Lycan King,” Oliver said finally looking at me. “If you get up and walk over there now the Council might take that as your decision to be with the Lycans, and that is something I don’t want you doing,” he said squeezing my hand.

“Fine,” I said looking back at Nick, the Lycan King was staring at me again. I quickly looked away, but I know he knows I saw him looking. Whether it mattered to him or not, I didn’t care either. The Lycan King was a good-looking guy, but there was something about him that I didn’t like. He had this darkness about him, I wasn't sure if it was because of his power or because he was truly evil and had some sinister plans for me.

I looked down at my hands, they were sweaty and sticky. Oliver moved around in his chair. I don’t know how impatient a Werewolf could get, but I didn’t want to be on the receiving end if they were mad at me.

“Are we ready to begin?” The Lycan King asked.

“In a few minutes, we don’t want to rush. We are still waiting on a couple more people to come and then we can get started.” the man at the table spoke, he glanced at me.

I wasn't sure if they were giving Oliver and I more time together, it didn’t matter I wanted as much time with him as they would allow. Nick finally lifted his head and his eyes meant mine for a minute before he broke eye contact.

I still wasn't sure about Nick and if he was playing against me. It didn’t matter when we are together I would get the truth out of him. He owed me at least that much. Looking over at Oliver his eyes were closed, I could tell she was thinking about something heavy. I just hoped he didn’t plan on doing anything to the Council to get himself killed. I didn’t want to see blood and death, but it seemed like it could happen in this room. I could feel the tension rising as each passing minute passed. I was starting to get a little worried about them losing patience and starting an all-out war right in front of me.

I grabbed Oliver’s hand and pulled him closer to me. When the Lycan King saw this he almost stood up, but he managed to contain himself. I knew he was thinking about doing something crazy, but I wasn't going to give in to my fear and show him I was afraid.

I brought up his hand and kissed it a couple of times while he was watching, it didn’t matter he was going to get what he wanted, it was just a matter of time before this crap started and he would get to see those words that I was scared to hear him say.

“You are either smart or crazy.” Oliver leaned in and kissed my cheek.

“I want them to know they cannot scare me into anything. I don’t want this to happen but it is, and I am going to show the Lycan King I am not going to be with him, or willingly do anything he wants.” I whispered watching the Lycan King.

He kept moving around in the chair so I knew this was bothering him, but it didn’t matter. Oliver was my mate, and I wish we could do something to show other than what we were doing. I still wanted to ask him to mark me in front of everyone but wasn't sure how that would go down. It didn’t matter, a man walked into the room.

He looked at Oliver and then me, and lastly the Lycan King. I wasn't sure if he was trying to decide what to do about this, or if this decision was already made and this was for political reasons only.

“So maybe we should begin,” he said taking his place next to the others. My heart instantly went into override. This was it, this was going to be my decision and my life. I didn’t want to take this the way it was handed to me, but I didn’t have a choice. This choice was forced.
