Chapter 54
Nick’s POV
Flying back into New York was the best thing for me. I haven't talked to Soma in a while, and I know she is probably going crazy wondering what the hell happened to me. I didn’t want to tell her that I was going to London because they were coming for her, but I did want her to know things weren’t as great as I thought they would be. I was hoping she and Oliver made more of a pack and they were in love. I didn’t want to lose my best friend to the fake Lycan King. He was already pissing me off to the end, but I wasn't strong enough to kill him myself. Many have tried and he made them die a slow and painful death. Don’t get me wrong Soma is worth the death but she would just be forced into things anyways whether I was dead or not.
Pulling out my phone, I turned it on. There were several messages from Soma asking where I was, I felt bad about ignoring her but I couldn’t let her distract me when I went against Gideon. Gideon wasn't too happy, and I knew he was going to send someone out here to try and force her to come with him, but I was going to ensure it didn’t happen like that. I dialed Soma’s phone.
“Hey, baby girl,” I said when she answered the phone.
“Nick! Nick where have you been? You left me alone and didn’t tell me anything about what was going on.” she whined into the phone.
“I know I am sorry, things didn’t go the way I wanted. The Lycan King wanted to see me, and I had no choice. I am trying to make things a little easier for you, but it seems he doesn’t want to hear it.”
“I don’t even understand what you’re saying. Why did you have to go to London to talk to him? Why couldn’t you talk to him on the phone?”
She didn’t know who he was. He hated the phone and would kill someone that preferred the phone over in person. “Soma, you cannot talk to the King on the phone, he would kill me faster than I could convince him this was the best way,” I said trying to stay calm.
I just wanted to catch a taxi and be close to her, I wanted to hug her and give her a couple of kisses on the cheek that is how much I missed her.
“Where are you?” I asked trying to control the conversation.
“Back at the pack lands with Oliver,” she said.
That made me relax a little, I was glad she was with him. “So you two are getting along then?”
“Yeah for the most part I rather live with Oliver. Don’t get me wrong I miss the apartment, but I like having the people around and Oliver makes me feel loved and wanted.”
“Good that is what I want to hear, I don’t like you alone,” I said. “Listen do you mind if I use your apartment while you’re with Oliver?”
“Yeah you still have a key, go ahead. Why don’t we meet at my store tomorrow and catch up and you could tell me why you had to leave. Oliver has told me a few things about what's happening, I need to fill you in on this stuff too.”
“Alright, I’ll see you tomorrow,” I said before hanging up the phone. I was happy to hear she was safe and that the vampires haven't grabbed her yet. I know they had some kind of plan they were doing, I just hoped Oliver and I could figure out how to kill them or keep them far enough away from Soma.
Grabbing my bag and a taxi, I headed to Soma’s apartment, part of me wanted to see her now but it was late and I was exhausted. Once I was back at her apartment, I took a shower and then headed to bed. I couldn’t wait to see her tomorrow, I hoped she had good news about Oliver and her mate bond, that way the Lycan King wouldn't have anything to say. I hoped Oliver marked her this would be so much easier for her when it came down to facing Gideon. I wasn't sure what to expect tomorrow, but I had my hopes high for her. Soma was a strong girl, but she needed someone there to protect her, someone there to love her too.
Waking up the next morning, I took a quick shower and made some breakfast. I missed her so much I couldn’t wait to see her. I knew I was probably overreacting but I didn’t care. I was going to give my best friend a hug and a kiss in front of her mate and tell him to try me. I giggled at the thought, honestly, I was scared of Oliver.
Werewolves had this thing about them, they didn’t care who you were if you threatened their life or their mate it was over for you. They would kill you and not care if you had your mate and family. All they cared about was themselves.
Leaving her apartment, I headed to the store. It was dark so she wasn't there yet, that was okay Oliver’s coffee shop was already open, so I walked over there.
“Lycan hm?” Micah questioned. “You’re Soma’s friend?”
“Yeah, do you know when she is coming?” I half-smiled. “She knows I’m here.”
“They are probably on their way, do you want some coffee?” he asked.
“Yes and some cookies please.” I smiled at him.
I wasn't expecting the werewolves to be as friendly as they have been. It could be because of Soma but I wasn't sure.
“Have a seat, I’ll bring them over.” he smiled.
I decided to sit close to the front door just in case things started happening. I still didn’t trust the werewolves, with everything we were taught about them they were unstable creatures. I just hoped the one here was in control of his darkness.
“Here you go,” Micah said smiling as he set the coffee and cookies down in front of me. “Soma and Oliver should be here in a few minutes,” he said before leaving me there.
I started in on my cookies when Soma and Oliver saw that I was there, Soma smiled and it almost looked like Oliver let out a sigh of relief. I giggled to myself as I stood up to greet them.
“Good morning!” Soma said rushing over to me and throwing her arms around me. “You can’t leave me again, this has been stressful,” she complained.
“Don't worry we have plenty of time to talk about this,” I assured her. “Hello, Oliver I hope everything has been easier now?”
“Yeah, she loves the packhouse and everything, so just a matter of time before I can convince her to move into the packhouse with me.” he smiled.
“Good glad to see the two of you are getting along so well,” I said sitting back down.
Oliver and Soma sat down with me, I could tell they were getting along really well. I don’t know if they’ve moved past anything but I could tell Soma is believing in him and there might even be some love there.
“So how long have you been staying at the packhouse?” I asked looking at Soma and then Oliver.
“Almost the entire time that you’ve been gone,” she said looking at him. “I am scared of the Detective and what he might try and do,” she said looking away I could tell she was scared, she wanted to go back to being invisible. It broke my heart there was nothing I could do or say to make her feel better.
“I’m sorry I had to go, I guess King Gideon wants you back in London and he isn't going to stop until he does,” I said looking at Oliver. “That is why you two should mate that way he cannot get what he wants.”
“Yeah about that,” Soma said with a sad face.
“We have a problem, the Council wants to meet with her, we have a feeling they are going to make her go back to the Lycan lands and be forced to do what the Lycan King wants,” Oliver said.
“So we need to figure out a plan, we need you two to mate.”
“We cant the Council will only make things worse for us,” Oliver said shaking his head. “I am upset that this has to be like this. Trust me we are getting along well and we’ve talked about her moving to the house for good.”
“Good, well you need to be careful. I don’t know how much the King will do, but I know if they are making you go there they are going to summon him as well.”
“Great,” Oliver growled. I could tell he was getting pissed. “I’ll see you later,” Oliver said before he kissed Soma on the cheek, her blush instantly appeared.
“So tell me what have I missed?” I asked as he walked away.
