Chapter 104 The Date
Tyler chuckled, "Just two. Looks like they're also coming to bond."
"Just two?" Victoria's eyes lit up. She suggested, "How about this: you talk to them and add two more people. I promise my son and his girlfriend won't get in the way."
Tyler looked a bit troubled and didn't respond right away.
Victoria put her hands on her hips and reminded him, "Tyler, have you forgotten how I helped you back then?"
Tyler laughed heartily. "Alright, alright, I'll go ask. Happy now?"
"That's more like it," Victoria laughed. Then she hung up, satisfied, and announced dinner.
After dinner, Rachel lay lazily on the sofa, rubbing her slightly bulging belly. "Aunt Victoria, your cooking is still amazing," she praised.
Victoria squinted her eyes with a smile. "If you like it, come home often with John. I'll cook for you."
"Okay," Rachel nodded. "I won't be shy about it."
"Good, don't be. I love cooking, but unfortunately, John and Ryan are often not around, and no one eats the food I make," Victoria pretended to complain.
John, who was peeling an apple, rolled his eyes at Victoria. "Mom, you're lying. It's you who often goes shopping and traveling, not having time to cook. How can you blame us?"
"You brat, minding my business! See if I don't hit you!" Victoria waved her fist angrily.
John dropped the apple knife, dodged nimbly, and teased, "You can't hit me, you can't hit me."
Rachel watched their antics, laughing so hard she held her belly. The living room was filled with a warm and joyful atmosphere.
As night quietly fell, Rachel looked at the time. It was almost eight o'clock, and she proposed to leave. Victoria wanted to keep her for the night, but Rachel politely declined.
"John, take Rachel home," Victoria said, giving John a push.
"You don't need to tell me, I know," John chuckled and grabbed the car keys. "Let's go, Rachel."
"Okay," Rachel nodded, waving goodbye to Victoria. "Goodbye, Aunt Victoria!"
Victoria waved back. "Goodbye."
Rachel followed John out of the villa and they drove away.
Over an hour later, they arrived at Starglow Valley Estates. Rachel unbuckled her seatbelt and opened the door. "I'll go now," she said to John.
"Alright," John responded.
Rachel closed the door, walked around the front of the car, and headed towards the apartment.
At that moment, John received a text message from Victoria: [John, take Rachel to Tyler's ranch for a date this weekend. Everything is arranged, the villa is ready too. I believe you can win Rachel over, good luck!]
John's mouth twitched. Victoria was really trying to help him and Rachel get closer.
John's eyes flickered. He rolled down the window, and seeing Rachel near the building door, he clenched his fist and mustered the courage to shout, "Rachel!"
"What's up?" Rachel stopped and turned around.
John took a deep breath and smiled casually. "My mom sent a message saying we're going to Tyler's ranch this weekend."
"Huh?" Rachel didn't catch it at first.
John scratched his head, got out of the car, walked up to her, and said softly, "My mom booked Tyler's ranch. She originally planned to go horseback riding, but she has to go shopping this weekend, so she asked us to go instead, not to waste the reservation."
He didn't dare to look her in the eye while speaking, afraid his lie would be seen through.
But Rachel was completely drawn in by the idea of "horseback riding," nodding excitedly. "Sure!"
She hadn't ridden a horse since she got married, all because of Michael. Thinking back, she had given up many pleasures for Michael who didn't love her. How foolish she was.
"Great, I'll pick you up this weekend," John said, breathing a sigh of relief and smiling broadly.
Rachel responded softly, "I'll go up now."
John nodded. "Go ahead."
Just as Rachel was about to turn around, John had a sudden flash of inspiration and called out to her, "Wait!"
"Anything else?" Rachel looked at him puzzled.
John's eyes dodged. He lied, "There's something in your hair."
"Something?" Rachel muttered as she reached up to touch. "I don't feel anything."
John said, "Not there, don't move, I'll get it."
Rachel obediently stood still. "Oh."
John's hand gently touched the top of her head, his body gradually getting closer, his head lowering, lips almost touching her forehead.
Just as John was about to kiss Rachel's forehead, Rachel suddenly asked, "Is it done yet?"
John stopped in time, forcing a smile. "It's done."
He put his hand down, stepped back, inwardly smiling bitterly, full of regret. He had almost kissed her just now. But it was also good, what if the kiss scared her and she didn't want to go horseback riding anymore?
In the black business car across the street, Michael's face was ashen, staring at the two downstairs, clenching his fist, a surge of inexplicable anger rising in his heart.
For some reason, seeing John almost kiss Rachel, he felt a murderous intent.
"Drive!" Michael ordered coldly, his thin lips tightly pressed.
