Chapter 119 Have a Split Personality
"It's nothing," Rachel mumbled, shutting her eyes.
Michael noticed her hesitation and tightened his lips, a flicker of coldness in his eyes. Without a second thought, he reached through the car window.
"What are you doing?" Rachel's face turned to panic as she watched him.
Ignoring her, Michael hit the lock button and opened the car door with his other hand. "Out," he ordered, his voice low and firm.
Rachel stayed put, defiant. "You think I'll just get out because you say so? Why should I listen to you? What do you even want?"
"Move to the back. I'm taking you to the hospital," Michael said calmly.
Rachel hesitated for a moment, then turned her head away. "No need. I can go by myself. I don't need you to take me."
"Do you really think you can drive like this?" Michael shot her a cold glance, noticing her pale face and the cold sweat on her forehead. "Do you even care about your own health?"
Rachel clutched her belly and let out a bitter laugh. "Whether I can drive is my business. What does it matter to you? Are we related?"
Michael was left speechless. They were just two unrelated individuals now, their only connection being ex-husband and ex-wife.
Thinking of this, he lowered his eyelids, feeling a surge of bitterness. He insisted, "Even if we aren't related, seeing you like this, even a stranger would take you to the hospital."
"Mr. Smith, you must be joking," Rachel scoffed, pushing him away and slamming the car door shut. "If it were a stranger, I wouldn't refuse, but since it's you, forget it. You should take care of Miss Brown."
Michael's face twisted with displeasure. She would rather let a stranger help her than him, which made him feel a pang of heartache.
Just as Rachel was about to start the car, she suddenly remembered something and frowned. "By the way, Mr. Smith, my bag was just snatched by someone on a motorcycle."
"Snatched?" Michael frowned. So she was chasing the motorcycle.
"That's right." Rachel nodded, scrutinizing him. "There was a phone in the bag with a recording of Mandy pushing me down the stairs. Just as I was about to submit the evidence to the police, someone came to rob me. It's obvious they were after that recording. Does it have anything to do with you?"
Michael's thin lips pressed even tighter. "Are you suspecting me?"
Rachel snorted coldly. "If it's not you, then it's Mandy. Anyway, only the three of us know about it."
"It's not me," Michael clenched his fists, saying firmly.
Rachel raised her chin. "Then it must be Miss Brown?"
Michael hesitated, ultimately saying nothing. Because besides himself, only Mandy knew.
"What are you thinking?" Rachel squinted her eyes, scrutinizing him.
Michael lowered his gaze. "Nothing." After a pause, he added, "I originally supported you reporting to the police, but later changed my mind because Mandy has a split personality."
"Split personality? You believe that?" Rachel mocked.
Michael looked at her seriously. "It's true. She was controlled by her alternate personality when she did those things."
Rachel sneered, "Do you think I'm an idiot? Using this excuse to deceive me?"
"I'm not deceiving you. It's Gregory's diagnosis," Michael said in a deep voice.
Rachel was stunned for a moment. "The medical genius Gregory?"
"Yes." Michael nodded.
Rachel fell silent. Although she had never met Gregory, she had heard of his legendary achievements, being a genius from a family of doctors.
Even so, Rachel still gripped the steering wheel tightly. "Even if she really has a split personality, so what? I want Mandy to go to jail."
"She can't go to jail. Her condition will worsen." Michael frowned deeply.
Rachel shot him a cold look. "What does that have to do with me? I want her to pay the price!"
With that, she rolled up the car window, started the engine, and drove off. Michael stood there, watching her car disappear, speechless for a long time.
On her way to the police station, Rachel drove while gently rubbing her belly, feeling nothing but irony. She knew Michael would do anything for Mandy, but she wasn't about to back down because of it.
After arriving at the police station, she rested in the car for a bit, waiting for her belly to feel a little better before getting out to report the case again. Meanwhile, in the interrogation room, Charlotte was holding Mandy, crying sorrowfully.
"Mandy, I know you hate her, but you can't go after her like this. It's too risky!" she said, wiping her tears.
Mandy lowered her head, her eyes red. "Mom, I'm sorry, but I really couldn't control myself."
Charlotte sighed, looking at Ethan. "Didn't you two realize Rachel is not easy to deal with? Every attempt has been thwarted by her, and you even ended up in the police station once."
Ethan rubbed his temples and remarked, "I never expected Henry's daughter to be so smart."
Charlotte covered her face and pleaded, "I don't want to hear about you two getting into trouble with the police one after another anymore. Calm down!"
Ethan patted her back and reassured her gently. "Don't worry, I understand." He had come to realize that those despicable little tricks were useless against Rachel, especially since she had the mysterious SlyFox behind her. To bring Rachel down, they had to deal with SlyFox first, and that couldn't be rushed.
Mandy remained silent, her head lowered, lost in thought. At that moment, the door of the interrogation room opened, and a police officer brought Rachel in.
Rachel's unfriendly gaze swept over the family of three, and she said mockingly, "So Mr. Brown and Mrs. Brown, you are here too."
Charlotte turned her face away, completely ignoring her. Ethan snorted but said nothing. Only Mandy looked at Rachel with tearful eyes, saying pitifully, "Ms. Williams, I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to push you down the stairs. I just..."
"Just have a split personality, right?" Rachel interrupted her with a sneer.
Mandy bit her lip, whispering, "So you already know."
Rachel snorted disdainfully, squinting at her. "Do you really have a split personality?"
"It's true. I just found out myself." Mandy nodded in fear, as if terrified of having such a condition.
Charlotte hugged her lovingly. "Mandy, why didn't you tell us you had this condition?"
"Why didn't you?" Ethan also stared at her worriedly.
Mandy held their hands, crying. "Because I didn't want to worry you."
Charlotte and Ethan sighed.
Rachel watched the family in their harmonious moment, a hint of nostalgia flashing in her eyes. Once, her parents had loved her like this, but everything had changed after the tragedy six years ago.
"Enough," Rachel said coldly, crossing her arms. "Miss Brown, I don't know if you truly have a split personality or are just pretending. If it's real, then I have nothing to say. But if you're faking it, I hope you really do develop one."
Mandy stared at her in shock. "You!"
Charlotte's hand shook with anger as she pointed at Rachel and shouted, "How can you be so cruel, cursing my daughter!"
