Chapter 182

David scratched his head, looking confused.

Rachel and Joseph had split up, so what was Kade doing with Rachel? Was Joseph planning to come back later or something?

When David mentioned it, Michael's face turned dark. He thought, 'It's bad enough Rachel didn't come back, but why did Joseph leave his nephew with her?'

"Where are they now?" Michael asked, his lips tight.

David answered, "Over by the spinning teacups. Ms. Williams is having a blast with Kade."

Michael raised an eyebrow. He didn't expect her to be so childish, still playing with stuff like that.

"Got it. Keep an eye on them, and make sure Rachel doesn't lose the kid," Michael said in a low voice.

David nodded, trying not to laugh. "Will do."

It was clear Michael just wanted to keep tabs on Rachel, but he found a decent excuse.

Meanwhile, Kade was laughing his head off on the spinning teacups. "This is awesome!"

He always thought he was more mature than other kids and never liked places like this. But today, he was having a blast.

Rachel saw Kade let go of the handrail and quickly grabbed him. "Kade, be careful. Don't let go, it's dangerous. Hold on tight."

Even though the spinning teacups weren't as risky as other rides, kids still needed to be careful.

"Okay." Kade obediently put his hands back on the handrail.

Kade wanted another round, so Rachel took him again.

After the second ride, Kade was finally satisfied. He touched his stomach and said to Rachel, "I'm kinda hungry."

Rachel looked around and spotted a restaurant nearby. She smiled at Kade and said, "How about we grab something to eat? After that, we can play a bit more and then head home."

"Okay!" Kade nodded eagerly.

Rachel really liked Kade. She patted his head and held his little hand as they walked to the restaurant.

Meanwhile, Michael got an update from David that Rachel and Kade had gone to the restaurant.

"Mr. Smith, do you want to go check on them?" David asked.

Michael's face darkened. "Why would I do that?"

"To make sure Ms. Williams and the kid are okay. If Ms. Williams needs to use the restroom, it wouldn't be safe for Kade to be left alone. As Mr. Anderson's friend, you wouldn't want Kade to get into trouble, right?" David said, pushing up his glasses with a smile.

Michael's eyes flickered, and he stood up. "Fine, I'll go take a look."

"Okay, I'll go ahead and get a table for you," David said as he walked into the restaurant.

Michael nodded and put down his phone, his face blank. David sighed, knowing he was trying hard to help Michael realize his feelings sooner.

Rachel and Kade sat in a corner of the restaurant, ordering a few light dishes. Kade was eating happily when he suddenly stopped and said, "I need to pee."

Rachel frowned, feeling a bit stuck. Kade was a boy, and she couldn't take him into the men's restroom, nor did she feel right taking him into the women's restroom, and she didn't want to leave him with a server.

As she was trying to figure out what to do, Kade's face turned red. "I can't hold it any longer."

Seeing him in discomfort, Rachel sighed, "Alright, I'll call a server to take you. Just wait here, okay?"

Kade nodded quickly. Rachel hurried to find a server but ended up bumping into someone, hurting her shoulder. She let out a muffled groan and stumbled backward, eventually slipping and falling.

In that split second, the word "baby" flashed in her mind, and she instinctively protected her belly. Just before hitting the ground, a large hand grabbed her wrist and pulled her up.

Rachel found herself in an embrace that smelled of mint. "Are you okay?" A deep voice asked, with a hint of tension.

Rachel looked up and saw who it was. She quickly pushed him away and took a step back, saying, "I'm fine, thank you."

"Why were you in such a hurry?" Michael asked, looking at her.

He had just arrived at the restaurant and ran into her.

Rachel remembered she had something important to do and looked around. She saw a server walking by and quickly called out, "Excuse me, there's a little boy who needs to go to the restroom. Could you please take him?"

"I'll take him," Michael interrupted.

Rachel looked at him in surprise. "You?"

Michael nodded. "Kade is Joseph's nephew. You wouldn't feel comfortable leaving him with a stranger, right?"

Rachel pursed her lips. She couldn't fully trust a server; what if they got called away and left Kade unattended?

Seeing Rachel's hesitation, Michael continued, "So it's safest for me to take him. At least you know me."

Rachel closed her eyes and finally agreed, "Alright, I'll leave it to you then."

Michael nodded. "Where's Kade?"

"Over there." Rachel led him to the table.

Kade saw Rachel return and happily jumped off the sofa. "Uncle's girlfriend!"

"Kade, he's going to take you to the restroom, okay? He's your uncle's friend, Michael," Rachel introduced, pointing to Michael.

Kade looked up and sized up Michael. "So you're Michael."

"You know me? Joseph told you about me?" Michael raised an eyebrow.

Kade nodded. "Yeah, Joseph said you're the stupid man he talks about."

Michael's face darkened while Rachel couldn't help but laugh. She could guess what Joseph meant by "stupid." Michael falling for someone like Mandy was indeed foolish.

"Is that what Joseph taught you?" Michael asked through gritted teeth.

Kade blinked. "Yeah, but I don't think you're stupid."

Rachel laughed even harder. Michael's gaze softened, and his anger unexpectedly subsided. He'd deal with Joseph later.

"Alright, Kade, stop talking and just go to the restroom with him," Rachel said gently, rubbing her face that hurt from laughing. Worried that Michael might leave in anger, she quickly urged Kade.

"Michael, carry me." Kade stood in front of Michael, raising his arms.

Michael's eye twitched. He thought, 'This Kade really isn't shy at all.'
