Chapter 93 Wrongdoings Must Be Paid For

Mandy quickly waved her hand, her voice urgent. "No, I didn't. My mom just let it slip. I had just woken up, and Monica came over. She overheard me asking my mom about your marriage with Ms. Williams."

Michael looked away, then picked up his phone and dialed Rachel's number.

Over at Skyline Corporation, John barged into Rachel's office, holding the investigation results. "Rachel, I found out who spread the rumors online. It was Mandy's friend, Monica," he said.

Rachel frowned and put down her pen. "How did you find out?" she asked, leaning back in her chair.

John handed her the report with a smug look. "It was easy. Monica was sloppy. She used a alt account but didn't hide her IP. It was a simple trace. I initially thought it was Mandy. What a shame."

If it had been Mandy, they would have had a reason to teach her a lesson.

Rachel's lips curled into a self-deprecating smile. "Yeah, it's a shame. I lost the bet."

She had bet with Michael on whether it was Mandy, but it turned out to be Monica. Although she suspected Monica's actions were linked to Mandy, she had no proof.

John's curiosity was piqued. "What bet?" he asked.

Rachel shook her head. "It's not important."

Seeing her reluctance, John didn't push further and got back to the main topic. "Rachel, what do you plan to do about this? Monica is easy to handle, but the online rumors are hard to control, especially with those marketing accounts making up stories." The stories included Rachel's marriage infidelity and conspiring to harm Mandy. It was simply ridiculous!

Rachel sighed, sounding tired. "Let me think," she said, lowering her head.

Just then, her phone rang. Rachel glanced at the caller ID. It was Michael. She figured it might be related to this, so she answered. "Hello?"

Michael's voice was calm but firm. "I've found out who posted the updates."

"Monica," Rachel said before he could.

Michael was surprised. "You know?"

Rachel nodded. "Yes. Congrats, Mr. Smith. It wasn't Miss Brown. You can be together without any worries now. Happy, aren't you?"

Michael frowned. Happy? No, he didn't feel particularly happy. Instead, there was a heavy feeling in his heart.

Rachel's lips curled into a smirk. "Alright, Mr. Smith, since the person has been identified, I hope you won't interfere. Monica is Miss Brown's friend. Don't come to stop me from dealing with Monica when Miss Brown asks you."

"I won't," Michael replied, feeling a bit uncomfortable. Was he really that untrustworthy?

"Good, remember your words," Rachel said before hanging up.

Michael stared at the phone screen, his expression complex and hard to read.

Mandy looked at him with concern. "Michael, what did Ms. Williams say?"

Michael looked up, slightly distracted. "Say what?"

"About Monica. Didn't you tell her? What does she plan to do with Monica?" Mandy asked anxiously.

Michael pinched the bridge of his nose. "I don't know. She didn't say." But he could guess from Rachel's cold tone that Monica wouldn't have a good outcome.

"Ms. Williams definitely won't let Monica off easily," Mandy said, her voice trembling. "Last time, I just made her trip, and she retaliated against me. And Ms. Garcia, the Garcia family has significantly declined."

Mandy grabbed Michael's hand, her eyes pleading. "Michael, can you help Monica?"

Michael gently pulled his hand back. He shook his head. "Sorry, Mandy, I promised Rachel I wouldn't interfere."

Mandy insisted, "But Monica is my friend. She did all this for me. I can't just sit by and do nothing, Michael!"

"Enough," Michael said firmly, pulling her into his arms. "Monica acted on her own. She was wrong and has to face the consequences, understand?"

He gazed at her, his deep eyes seemingly devoid of emotion, making Mandy's heart sink and her face pale. Wrongdoings must be paid for. What if one day he found out about her actions? How would he treat her?

Thinking of this, Mandy couldn't help but tremble, her eyes filled with unease. No, he must never find out, never. Therefore, Rachel must disappear. Only then would her secrets remain forever hidden.

On the other side, John saw Rachel hang up and quickly asked, "What did Michael say?"

"Nothing much, just told me who the culprit was. I told him not to interfere," Rachel replied, rubbing her sore shoulder.

John raised an eyebrow. "He agreed?"

Rachel nodded. "Yes."

John sneered. "Monica is Mandy's friend. Mandy will definitely ask Michael to help Monica. He spoils Mandy too much. Maybe if she cries, he'll soften and change his mind."

"If that's the case, don't blame me for being ruthless." Rachel muttered as she clenched her fist, a cold glint in her eyes.

John was shocked. "Rachel, are you serious?"

Rachel looked at him, her determination undeniable. "Yes."

John swallowed and whispered, "So how do you plan to act?"

Rachel shot him a glance. "Why ask so many questions?"

Then she stood up with her crutches and instructed, "It's about time. I'll head back first. Contact the media for me later. I want to hold a press conference."

"A press conference?" John was intrigued. "To address this issue?"

Rachel nodded. "Yes, the truth has been hidden for too long. It's time to clarify. I can't keep being misunderstood and blamed!"

"Indeed, I'll handle it right away," John said, his tone firm. He took out his car keys and looked at Rachel with concern. "I'll take you back to Starglow Valley Estates first. You can't drive with that foot injury."

Rachel didn't refuse, giving a light nod in agreement.

In the car, she logged into Twitter and posted an update: [Tomorrow morning at 10 AM, I will hold a press conference at Skyline Corporation to clarify the misunderstandings with Mr. Smith of Smith Corporation and the conflicts with Miss Brown of TriStar Corporation. Please stay tuned.]

The online uproar had already drawn many netizens to Rachel's Twitter. Seeing this, they flocked to comment.

[Oh, is she going to prove she was framed?]

[Rich people always hold press conferences for their reputation.]

[Isn't it true that she's entangled with Mr. Smith?]

Facing these harsh comments, Rachel frowned slightly but didn't respond. She decisively closed Twitter. Anyway, everything would be clear tomorrow. Let them comment as they please.

In no time, Starglow Valley Estates came into view. John parked the car and turned to her in the back seat. "I'll pick you up tomorrow morning."

"Alright, drive safely," Rachel replied as she got out of the car.

John blew a kiss and drove away.

Watching the car disappear into the distance, Rachel leaned on her crutches and slowly walked into the building.

As the elevator doors opened, James's figure came into view, standing in front of her door.

James's eyes lit up when he saw her. "Rachel, you're back."

Rachel frowned, clearly annoyed. "Why are you here again? Don't tell me you had another fight with your mom and ran away to hide here!"

James shook his head. "No, I came specifically to see you."

Rachel asked, stepping forward. "What for?"
