Chapter 114 Pushed Down the Stairs

Rachel's eyes flickered for a moment, and she decided to see a doctor as soon as she left. She had to figure out what was going on with her body that had Mandy so worried.

"Fine, forget it," Catherine said, noticing Rachel's resolve. She didn't push any further.

Emily scoffed. "Mom, she's just ungrateful."

"Enough!" Catherine snapped.

Emily immediately shut up, fear flashing in her eyes. Even though Catherine was old, she still had a commanding presence. Over the years, Emily had only dared to complain behind her back, never to her face.

"Oh, Rachel, I almost forgot," Catherine said, reaching under her pillow and pulling out a red string with a key attached.

Rachel took the key, curious. "Grandma Catherine, is this what you wanted to give me?" Emily and Mandy, who had been watching, lost interest when they saw it was just a plain key.

Catherine nodded. "Yes, your dad gave this to me six years ago. He wanted me to give it to you when the time was right. I forgot last time, but now that you're here, it's yours."

Rachel looked at the key, puzzled. "Why didn't my dad give it to me himself? Why did he ask you to do it?"

Catherine saw her confusion and smiled gently. "Your grandfather and my husband were comrades-in-arms. Six years ago, when Henry couldn't find you, he gave me the key. At that time, I was the only person he trusted. Later, your father..." She trailed off and sighed.

Rachel knew she was talking about Henry's suicide. She gripped the key tightly, tears welling up in her eyes. She regretted not being with Henry that day when she was chasing after the funds her stepmother had taken. If she had been there, maybe the tragedy wouldn't have happened.

A tear fell onto the key. Rachel pressed further, "Grandma Catherine, did my dad mention what this key is for?"

"Yes," Catherine replied. "He said it's the key to the Williams Manor. Inside, there's a necklace that's very important to you. He told you to find this necklace because it holds a significant secret. As for what the secret is, Henry didn't say."

"Okay, I understand. Thank you, Grandma Catherine." Rachel sniffled and forced a smile.

Catherine smiled. "No need to thank me. It's getting late. Go home and rest. Come back next time."

Rachel nodded. "Okay, I'll go now." She slung her bag over her shoulder and walked straight to the door, ignoring Emily and Mandy.

Emily sneered, "So rude."

Rachel paused at the door, sneered back, and walked out without a care. Not far away, a voice called out, "Wait."

Rachel stopped and looked coldly at Mandy. "Miss Brown, what do you want?" she asked.

Mandy took a step forward. "I want to talk to you."

Rachel smirked dismissively. "Are you sure?"

Mandy's gaze remained steady. "Yes."

Rachel let out a small laugh. "I don't think we have anything to talk about."

Mandy's eyes swept over Rachel's abdomen. "No, we have a lot to discuss," she insisted.

A little over a month ago, Monica had seen Rachel and Michael enter the same room and not come out for a long time. Mandy suspected they had been intimate. Today, Rachel's reaction to the supplements made her even more convinced that Rachel might be pregnant.

If she was pregnant, as time went on, the symptoms would become more obvious, and Rachel would definitely go to the hospital for a check-up. Once she found out she was pregnant, she might go to Michael with the child and demand that he take responsibility.

Mandy clenched her fists; she couldn't let that happen. Michael was a stand-up guy. If Rachel was really pregnant, Michael might take her back because of the kid, and all Mandy's years of effort would go down the drain.

"Alright, let's talk," Rachel said, lowering her eyes. She already knew Mandy had bad intentions.

"Since you agree, follow me," Mandy said, her voice dripping with fake sweetness.

Rachel frowned. "Can't we talk here?"

"There are too many people around. It's not appropriate," Mandy replied, glancing around.

"Fine, lead the way," Rachel agreed reluctantly. Mandy sneered inwardly but kept a fake smile plastered on her face.

Following Mandy to the stairwell, Rachel took out her phone and dialed Michael's number. She didn't know why Mandy suddenly had such hostility toward her and even led her to a secluded place, but it was clear she had bad intentions. Rachel knew she had to be on guard.

The call connected quickly, and a deep, magnetic voice came through. "What's wrong?" Rachel didn't answer, just followed Mandy.

Mandy stopped in the stairwell, crossed her arms, and looked around. She muttered, "There shouldn't be any cameras here."

"What do you want?" Rachel asked warily.

On the other end, Michael immediately understood that this wasn't a misdial. Rachel wanted him to hear what was about to happen.

Mandy smiled, but her expression quickly turned sinister. She sneered, "Ms. Williams, do you know how much I despise you? From the very first time we met in college, I couldn't stand you. We are destined to be enemies. Only one of us can survive, so why don't you just die?"

"What?" Rachel was shocked. She had anticipated that Mandy wouldn't let her off easily, but she hadn't expected her to outright say she wanted her dead.

"You want to kill me?" Rachel gripped her phone tightly, her voice rising.

Michael's face changed drastically when he heard this. He got out of the car and rushed toward the hospital building, his mind in turmoil. He couldn't believe Mandy had such murderous intent toward Rachel!

Mandy's eyes flashed with anger. She said with a chilling smile, "Ms. Williams, talking about murder is too extreme. Your death will be an accident, and it will have nothing to do with me."

As she spoke, she stepped closer to Rachel. Since the incident at the resort, she hadn't found an opportunity to act. But now, knowing that Rachel might be pregnant, she couldn't delay any longer.

Mandy suddenly grabbed Rachel's shoulders, grinning viciously as she pushed her toward the stairs. The force was astonishing, and with her high heels, Rachel couldn't keep her balance and stumbled to the edge of the stairs.

"Get down there!" Mandy hissed, using all her strength to push Rachel hard. Rachel's body seemed to lose gravity and fell down the steps.

Standing at the top of the stairs, watching Rachel fall with a terrified expression, Mandy smiled cruelly and waved goodbye. "Goodbye!" This height would surely leave Rachel half-dead, and even if she survived, Mandy could always try again.

However, at the critical moment, a figure rushed up from below, arms outstretched, catching the falling Rachel.

The sudden impact knocked the man to the ground, his back hitting the wall painfully, his face contorted in pain, and sweat beading on his forehead.

Rachel, who had just been pulled back from the brink of death, wasn't much better off. Her arms and legs were numb and aching, and even her lower abdomen started to hurt.

Mandy had fantasized about seeing Rachel's mangled body, but seeing her saved instead left her shocked. The man who saved Rachel was Michael!

Mandy's face turned pale, filled with fear and confusion. 'Why's he here too?' she thought.
