Chapter 157

Rachel texted: [Nope.]

ZH replied: [Okay.] He stared at his phone for a couple of minutes, knowing Rachel wouldn't text back. His face fell.

John had already gone to find Joseph to ask about him because of what happened that night. She hadn't even told him she was pregnant.

Honestly, Michael wished she had told him or asked him to step up. But she just dealt with it all on her own.

Maybe other guys would be relieved, but he just felt annoyed. Was it so hard for her to lean on him and let him take responsibility? Michael yanked at his tie, the air around him getting seriously tense.

John got out of the car and angrily knocked on the Andersons' door. The butler who opened the door asked, "Sir, who are you?"

"I'm looking for Joseph!" John said through gritted teeth.

The butler eyed him warily. Could this guy be trouble for Joseph?

Sensing the butler's thoughts, John took a deep breath, suppressed his anger, and forced a smile. "I'm a friend of Joseph's. I have an urgent matter, so I might look a bit fierce. Please call him for me," John said politely.

The butler could tell he wasn't lying, hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Alright, please wait a moment."

The butler closed the door and went upstairs to find Joseph.

Joseph was on the phone. Hearing the butler's words, he raised an eyebrow. "Someone's looking for me? Who?"

"I don't know, but he seems to be of high status, driving a luxury car and wearing a floral shirt."

Joseph's mouth twitched, and a figure instantly popped into his mind. "I know who it is. Where is he?" Joseph asked.

"Outside," the butler replied.

"Invite him in. I'll be down shortly," Joseph instructed.

The butler nodded and went downstairs.

Joseph picked up his phone again, said a few words to the person on the other end, then hung up and closed the door before heading downstairs. He wondered what John suddenly wanted from him.

"John," Joseph said as he came downstairs and saw John on the sofa. He scratched his head and asked, "What do you need from me that you came all the way here?"

John put down the coffee cup in his hand, stood up, and angrily walked towards Joseph. When he reached Joseph, he grabbed Joseph's tie and loudly demanded, "Where is that person?"

Joseph looked confused. "Who?"

"The bastard who raped Rachel that night!" John shouted, his eyes red.

Joseph's face darkened. "What did you say? Rachel was raped?"

"Yes, on my birthday night, Rachel got drunk and was raped by your friend. Now she's even..."

"Even what?" Joseph tore John's hand away and grabbed John's collar in return, urgently asking, "Say it!"

John noticed Joseph's nervousness, feeling a bit strange. Was he too concerned about Rachel's matter?

But John didn't think much of it, pushed Joseph away, clenched his fist, and replied, "Now Rachel is pregnant!"

"What?" Joseph's eyes widened in shock.

"Are you still not going to tell me who that person is?" John shouted.

Joseph opened his mouth. How could he tell? That person was Michael.

Seeing Joseph remain silent and bow his head in thought, John grew even angrier, his fists trembling. "Joseph, are you trying to cover for that person?"

"No."

"If not, then tell me. Rachel was raped by him, and he didn't show up. Now Rachel is pregnant, and he still wants to hide in the shadows?" John said through gritted teeth.

Joseph's expression was strange. "No, it's just that he's not in the country."

"He's abroad?" John angrily waved his fists. "Does he think he can avoid all responsibility by being abroad? No way. Call him right now and tell him to get back here!"

Joseph's eyes flickered with guilt. "I'm afraid that's not possible. Although I'm his friend, we're not that close. He's quite mysterious, and I can't guarantee I can reach him."

"What?" John frowned.

Joseph coughed. "You should go back first. I'll try to contact him later. If I manage to reach him, I'll let you know, okay?"

"No way, I'm not leaving. Give me his contact information, and I'll contact him myself." John extended his hand.

Joseph didn't expect him to be so persistent and felt troubled. How could he dare to give out Michael's phone number? If John and Rachel found out that the person from that night was Michael, who knew what might happen.

Moreover, he had his own selfish reasons. He didn't want Rachel to know that the child she was carrying was Michael's.

After thinking for a moment, Joseph squinted. "Alright, I'll give it to you. Just leave quickly."

He walked to the table, found a pen and paper from the drawer, wrote down a phone number, and handed it to John.

John glanced at it. "What's his name?"

"When he was in the country, he used a fake name. It doesn't matter if I write it or not," Joseph said, rolling his eyes.

John clenched the piece of paper. "Fuck, he's a foreigner. His raping her while drunk is utterly shameless. When I contact him, I'll personally go abroad and beat him up." John cursed as he walked away.

Joseph wiped the sweat from his forehead and breathed a sigh of relief. Finally, he had gotten rid of the troublesome John.

Joseph went back upstairs and called Michael. As if he had anticipated the call, Michael immediately asked, "Did John come to see you?"

"How did you know?" Joseph was surprised.

Michael lowered his eyes. "Rachel told me."

Joseph realized and then pouted. "Right, you hid your identity and added Rachel as a friend. If John wanted to find you through me, she would definitely inform you."

Detecting the jealousy in Joseph's tone, Michael frowned. What was he jealous of?

"Since you already know that John came to see me, you must also know about Rachel's pregnancy, right?" Joseph asked.

Nearly two months ago, the morning after John's birthday, Michael had called him to handle the club's surveillance footage. Curious, he watched it before deleting it and was stunned to see Michael carrying Rachel into a room. So Rachel must have gotten pregnant that night.

"I know." Michael nodded slightly.

Joseph squinted. "From your tone, it seems like you knew for a while."

Michael responded with a sound.

"How long have you known?" Joseph asked again.

Michael pursed his lips and answered, "Several days."

Joseph suddenly remembered the day at the stables and smirked. "No wonder you stopped Rachel from riding that day. You must have known by then, right?"

"That's right," Michael replied calmly, then asked in a deep voice, "Did you tell John that the person from that night was me?"

"No, you asked me to handle the surveillance because you didn't want Rachel to know who it was that night. So why would I say anything?" Joseph replied with a darkened expression.

"Thank you."

"No need to thank me. I just want to know how you plan to handle this. Are you planning to remarry Rachel?" Joseph slowly tightened his grip on the phone.

Hearing the word "remarry," Michael felt a flicker of emotion. But soon, he thought of something and suppressed it.

"No." Michael tiredly pinched his brow, "I've already let Mandy down once. I can't let her down again."

Joseph rolled his eyes disdainfully. "Alright then, it's your decision."

If it were before, he would have definitely persuaded Michael to remarry Rachel, especially since Rachel was pregnant, and Mandy was truly unworthy of Michael. But now, he realized he might have some feelings for Rachel, so he naturally wouldn't persuade him.

"If you're not remarrying, what about the child Rachel is carrying? You have to take responsibility, right?" Joseph said, collecting his thoughts.
