Chapter 65 Solutions
Feeling the urgency in her voice, Michael's frown eased up a bit, and his irritation started to fade.
Z-H: [There's a plan to build a cultural museum to showcase global treasures, and they're thinking about putting it in the Summit Ridge District. They haven't nailed down the exact spot yet. Your factory doesn't need a ton of space, so you could offer up half of it to the department. In return, you could get some discounts and help.]
Rachel's eyes lit up, and she grinned. "Oh, I could give them some land rent-free for a few years and ask them to help build the factory. Problem solved!"
This meant her factory would get national support, and even if Ethan tried to mess things up, he wouldn't dare interfere with a national project. Plus, she could ask the department to recommend a machinery factory, hitting two birds with one stone.
Overjoyed, she sent a voice message, her tone light and excited. "Thanks, you've saved me again."
Z-H: [No problem.]
Rachel thought for a moment and asked, "We've been talking for so long, but I still don't know your name. How should I thank you?"
But this time, there was no reply. Rachel figured he wouldn't respond again, sighed, and closed the chat.
Just then, John stormed in, looking furious. "Rachel, you were right. Ethan's got all the construction teams and machinery factories in town on his side. They won't take our orders no matter what I say. It's driving me nuts!"
Hearing his strained voice, Rachel got up and handed him a cup of honey water, reassuring him, "Don't worry. There's a way."
John took the cup and asked eagerly, "What way?"
Rachel explained the plan Z-H had suggested.
John slapped his thigh and laughed, "Brilliant, Rachel! How did you come up with that?"
Rachel shook her head, "A friend's idea."
John was skeptical. "A friend? Is it the same person who helped you get Blue Sky Ventures?"
Rachel nodded. "Yeah."
John put down the cup and pressed further, "Come on, who is this person? What's your relationship? Why do they keep helping you?"
Rachel lowered her eyes, feeling awkward. After all, they had a one-night stand. Even if it was an accident, it was hard to explain.
Rachel changed the subject. "Enough questions. Drink up, and let's go talk to the department."
John saw her reluctance and didn't push further. "Alright, alright, stop rushing me."
After some playful banter, the two left Skyline Corporation.
Meanwhile, in a private room at a club, Joseph saw Michael sitting alone in a dark corner and walked over with two glasses of red wine.
"What are you doing? Always on your phone? I asked you out to relax, not to work overtime," Joseph teased, handing over the wine.
Michael took a sip and said, "I'm not busy with work."
"Then what are you doing?" Joseph sat down and peeked at the phone, his eyes widening in surprise. "Isn't that Rachel? Are you chatting with her?"
Joseph looked at him incredulously, raising an eyebrow.
Michael's expression stayed calm as he put his phone down. "She doesn't know it's me."
"So you're hiding your identity to get close to her?" Joseph's eyes grew even more curious.
Michael glanced sideways, his voice steady. "It's not like that."
"Then what is it..." Joseph leaned in, curious.
"Enough." Michael rubbed his temples, cutting him off. "I remember your uncle Andrew Anderson is in the government department overseeing the cultural museum, right?"
"Yeah, why?" Joseph asked, tilting his head in confusion.
"Rachel might go to apply for a construction team. Ask Andrew to help her out," Michael said, sipping his wine like it was no big deal.
Joseph scratched his head, looking puzzled. "Last time, you helped her with the Wonderworks Technologies deal, and now you're helping again. What's the deal? Don't tell me you still have feelings for her."
Michael's brows furrowed slightly, his voice turning cold. "You're overthinking it. I'm just making up for the mess Mandy caused her."
Joseph scrutinized him and asked, "Really?"
Michael's lips tightened. "What do you think?"
"I think you still have feelings for her," Joseph muttered.
Joseph had heard about Ethan's call and knew how Mandy had hurt Rachel. He also knew Michael had given Rachel a huge compensation for Mandy's actions. Since he had already compensated her, Michael didn't need to do anything more, but he still did. Clearly, Rachel held a special place in his heart. With Mandy in the picture, things were bound to get interesting.
Thinking this, Joseph smiled with interest and put down his wine glass. "Alright, I'll call my uncle now."
Michael nodded, grabbed his coat, and stood up. "I'm leaving."
"It's still early," Joseph reminded him, watching Michael's back.
Michael didn't stop. "Going to the Brown family to pick up Mandy for dinner," he replied.
Hearing this, Joseph didn't try to stop him. Instead, he pulled out his phone and dialed a number, putting it to his ear. "Hello, Uncle Andrew!" he greeted.
On the other side, Rachel hadn't expected the negotiation with the department to go so smoothly. Within an hour, the contract was finalized.
In return for her years of free land use, the other party promised not only to assist in the factory construction fully but also to handle the equipment issues properly.
Stepping out of the building, night had quietly fallen. Rachel's stomach growled right on cue.
John gently wrapped his arm around her shoulder and suggested, "Rachel, how about enjoying a steak dinner?"
"Good idea," Rachel readily agreed.
"Then let's go!" John said, quickening his pace toward the parking lot.
Half an hour later, the two stepped into a well-known restaurant in the Summit Ridge District.
As soon as they entered, Rachel was interrupted by a familiar voice from behind. "Ms. Williams, Mr. Davis, what a coincidence."
Rachel's smile became slightly stiff. John directly rolled his eyes. "Why is it you guys again?"
The newcomers were Michael and Mandy. Mandy still smiled gently. "Mr. Davis, are you not happy to see us?"
John spread his hands teasingly. "If you know, why ask?"
Mandy's smile remained unchanged, without anger or irritation.
Michael stayed silent, his gaze falling on the bandage on Rachel's forehead, with an unreadable emotion in his deep eyes.
Rachel noticed his gaze and responded with a playful smile. "Mr. Smith, aren't you afraid Miss Brown will get jealous if you stare at me like that?"
Mandy's smile visibly wavered. She knew Rachel intended to provoke, but she couldn't refute it, as Michael's gaze indeed lingered on Rachel.
A flash of jealousy crossed Mandy's eyes, her heart filled with mixed emotions, but she quickly restored her smile. "Ms. Williams, you're overthinking. Why would I be jealous? Standing in front of us, it's normal for Michael to look at you. Besides, given so many female employees he interacts with, I'd be drained from jealousy if I let it bother me. Right, Michael?"
She affectionately linked her arm with Michael's.
Michael felt the deliberate force; his brows furrowed slightly, but he didn't pull his arm away.
"Miss Brown, you're so magnanimous," Rachel remarked, pretending not to notice Mandy's forced smile.
John yawned. "Rachel, why bother talking to them? Weren't you hungry? Let's go to the private room first."
