Chapter 88 Switching Seats
"Awesome!" James clapped his hands, eyes sparkling with joy.
"The next game..." Michael started, but James cut him off, determined. "I know, I'll give it my all and win!"
Michael nodded, then got serious. "Good, remember your promise. And I hope this is the last time. If you get down over things like this again, maybe you should listen to Mom and quit basketball."
"It won't happen again," James promised, standing tall. The first game's setback had bummed him out, but he swore not to repeat it.
"Alright, let's go. The game's starting," Michael said, patting James on the shoulder.
"Michael, I'm off!" James waved and dashed away, full of energy.
Michael watched him disappear, then shoved his hands in his pockets and headed back to the stands.
As the third quarter kicked off, James shook off his earlier slump, looking totally recharged. He broke through the defense, scoring again and again. He leaped into the air and waved to the stands, confidence back in full swing.
The crowd went wild, cheers erupting everywhere.
Rachel smiled, "Looks like he's back. What did you say to him?" she asked, curious.
Michael looked a bit surprised, then composed himself. "He was down because we weren't here. Now that he knows we're here, he's better."
Rachel looked shocked. "Really?"
Michael nodded. "Yeah."
Rachel pouted, muttering, "So childish."
Michael smirked, agreeing. "Totally childish."
They fell silent, watching the game. Compared to the noisy crowd, their quietness made them stand out. With their striking looks, they were even more noticeable.
Some live stream hosts, drawn by their good looks, occasionally turned the camera on them, making the fans in the live room go nuts.
[Wow, that guy is so handsome, and the woman is gorgeous too.]
[Are they a couple? They look perfect together.]
[Am I the only one who thinks they look familiar, like I've seen them somewhere before?]
The chatter was endless, but soon the host shifted the camera as the third quarter neared its end.
James was on fire, closing the score gap. The atmosphere was tense, and everyone held their breath. As James took the shot, all eyes were on him. The basketball swished through the hoop.
The buzzer sounded, and the scoreboard showed 70 to 68, with the national team overtaking Amberlia.
"Incredible!" The crowd erupted in excitement.
The guy next to Rachel was so pumped he accidentally bumped her shoulder, making her fall toward Michael.
Michael quickly steadied her. "You okay?"
Rachel shook her head. "I'm fine, thanks, Mr. Smith."
"You're welcome," Michael said, letting go, his touch lingering a bit.
Rachel sat back down, but the guy jumped up again, knocking her crutches into the aisle.
Rachel was both angry and helpless. Just as she was thinking about asking for help, Michael stood up, grabbed the crutches, and handed them to her. "Here."
Rachel looked at him, surprised, and took the crutches. "Thanks," she said politely.
Michael nodded and glanced at her foot. "Is your foot better?"
"Much better, it doesn't hurt as much," Rachel replied, moving the crutches to the other side to keep them safe.
Michael got it. "Let's switch seats," he suggested.
Rachel was taken aback but shook her head. "No need, this spot is fine."
"The game's not over yet. James is on fire, and the crowd's only gonna get wilder. Are you sure you won't get bumped again sitting here?" Michael insisted, giving the nearby spectator a cold look.
Rachel was speechless, knowing he had a point.
"Thanks, Mr. Smith," Rachel smiled and started to get up with her crutches.
Before she could stand, Michael suddenly picked her up and placed her in his seat.
Rachel was momentarily stunned, her cheeks flushing. Michael's eyes flickered, and he calmly explained, "You were too slow, blocking the view of the people behind us."
Rachel was left speechless and could only grit her teeth and thank him.
Seeing her frustrated look, Michael's lips curled up slightly. "You're welcome," he said, sitting in her seat.
Their seat-switching scene was perfectly captured by the live stream camera. The host, with a hint of envy, said to the viewers, "Did you see that? The sweet interaction between that handsome guy and beautiful girl is really enviable."
[So envious.]
[Cyber SparK, you should hurry up and find a boyfriend as handsome as that guy. Then you can all show off your sweetness together.]
[If Cyber SparK had that ability, she wouldn't still be single!]
The host, Cyber SparK, was both amused and annoyed by the fans' teasing. She raised an eyebrow, "If you keep this up, I won't show them to you anymore."
[No, please don't! We're sorry, we won't tease you anymore.]
The fans quickly apologized.
Cyber SparK smugly hummed and kept the camera on Rachel and Michael.
Monica, a loyal fan of Cyber SparK, had learned many beauty tips from her streams. To her surprise, she spotted Rachel and Michael in Cyber SparK's stream.
"I have to tell Mandy!" Monica muttered. She put down her tablet and picked up her phone to call Mandy.
At that moment, Mandy was applying a face mask in front of the mirror. Hearing the call, she gently answered, "Monica, what's up?"
"Mandy, check out the live stream link I sent you!" Monica said urgently.
Mandy adjusted the edges of her face mask and asked, "What's going on? Why so urgent?"
Monica said, "Rachel is pestering Mr. Smith again!"
"What did you say?" Mandy's eyes widened as she ripped off her face mask in disbelief.
Monica said indignantly, "She's too much. Even though she's divorced from Mr. Smith and has a boyfriend, she's still clinging to Mr. Smith and even followed him to Downtown Sports Arena."
Mandy roughly understood the situation. Rachel and Michael were at Downtown Sports Arena watching James's basketball game. It was understandable for Michael to watch James's game, but why was Rachel there? Given her strained relationship with James, she shouldn't be there to support him. Could it be, as Monica said, that Rachel was there to pester Michael?
Mandy bit her lip and quickly walked to her computer, clicking on the link Monica sent. Seeing Rachel and Michael sitting side by side on the screen, her eyes instantly dimmed.
"Mandy, are you still there?" Monica asked.
