Chapter 144

When Rachel heard the news, she wasn't shocked at all. Frank was hell-bent on booting her out of Skyline Corporation's management, leaving her as just a major shareholder with no real power. Naturally, he'd use her absence to turn her people against her. If Frank hadn't pulled this stunt, she'd have been surprised.

Rachel sneered and said coldly, "If he managed to win them over, fine. It's better for those who aren't loyal to go to him, so I won't be stabbed in the back when it really matters. But since they've sided with Frank, the perks I gave them are off the table."

She added, "Make sure those people mess up and get them booted from their positions. Then, put new folks in their spots."

"But what if Mr. Roberts wants to keep them?" Lily asked, worried.

Rachel smirked. "Just tell Frank that if he tries to keep them, I'll sell some of my shares to his competitors, giving him another headache to deal with."

"Got it, I'll get on it right away." Lily nodded, excited.

Rachel pushed open her office door and got to work on the mountain of documents from the past two days.

Halfway through, Lily told her there was a meeting. Rachel closed the document she was working on, got up, and headed to the conference room. Outside the conference room, she ran into Frank coming from the other direction.

Frank looked pissed. "I didn't think you'd have the guts. To stop me, you even thought about selling your shares."

He figured that after turning some of Rachel's people against her, she'd come back and be stuck. Even if she wanted to fire those high-ranking officials, he'd block her, and she'd have to deal with it.

But she didn't play by his rules. Instead, she used a bold move to stop him. To avoid another enemy, he had no choice but to back off, watching helplessly as the executives he worked so hard to win over got kicked out. It drove him nuts.

"Thanks for the compliment, Mr. Roberts. Being in a high position, if I don't have guts, how can I manage so many people? Don't you agree, Mr. Roberts?" Rachel said with a polite smile.

Frank's face twisted, but he couldn't argue, so he gritted his teeth and said, "You're right."

"Since you think so, it seems I was right to fire those who aren't loyal. After all, if they can betray me today, they can sell out Skyline Corporation tomorrow. Better to get rid of them early." Rachel continued with a smile.

Frank's lips twitched, seething with rage, but he still managed to say, "Well done." Damn it. He had spent so much to win those people over, and now Rachel had kicked them all out. All his efforts were wasted; he was furious.

"Thanks for the praise, Mr. Roberts. I'll head in now." Rachel nodded, ignoring Frank's forced smile, and was about to enter the conference room.

Frank suddenly called out, "Wait a minute, Rachel."

"Mr. Roberts, what else do you need?" Rachel stopped and looked at him.

Frank straightened his tie and said, "I heard today is the day you submit the new energy technology cooperation proposal, right?"

Rachel's eyes flickered, unsure why he was asking, but she still smiled and replied, "That's right."

"In that case, you should work hard. I'll see if you can secure the deal," Frank said with a very forced smile. It wasn't that he underestimated Rachel; he just didn't believe she could meet Skyline Corporation's expectations.

He thought it was impossible for her to write a good proposal and secure the deal. Of course, if she wanted to seduce Michael to make the deal, it would depend on whether the Brown family agreed.

Frank never really thought Rachel could win the bet. He was just trying to get back at her for making him look bad.

Rachel knew this too. Her eyes darkened for a moment, but she kept a faint smile. "We'll have to wait and see if I can secure the deal. No one can say for sure now."

"In that case, I'll wait for your good news. Don't let the good news turn bad; that'd be awkward." Frank laughed, patted Rachel on the shoulder, and walked into the conference room.

After he left, Rachel raised her hand and slowly wiped her shoulder where he had patted, as if wiping off something dirty. She had to admit, Frank's words did put some pressure on her.

Even though she was confident in her proposal and several professors had praised it, she couldn't be sure that other companies' proposals weren't better. So she really wasn't sure about securing the deal. As she rubbed her temples, Rachel sighed.

Rachel thought, 'Well, no matter the final result, at least I tried my best. If it works out, great. If not, I'll find another way to take power from Frank in the future.'

With that thought, Rachel patted her cheeks, rearranged her expression, and entered the conference room.

After the meeting, it was already noon. Rachel quickly ate a few bites of the lunch Lily bought and then drove to Smith Corporation with the proposal.

When the receptionist learned of her purpose, she led her to the elevator. "Ms. Williams, you can go directly to the reception room on the thirty-eighth floor. David is there to receive the collaborative proposals."

"Okay, thank you." Rachel nodded, thanked her, and entered the elevator.

Soon, she arrived at the reception room. David, hearing the knock, stopped organizing the documents, looked up, and seeing it was Rachel, quickly stood up. "Ms. Williams, please come in."

"Sorry to bother you." Rachel smiled at him and walked in with the documents, saying, "This is my proposal."

"Okay." David took it with both hands and placed it on the table with a thick stack of other documents.

Rachel raised an eyebrow. "Are these the proposals from other companies?"

"Yes, except for Mr. Brown, everyone has submitted," David replied.

Rachel nodded in understanding.

David made a gesture. "Ms. Williams, please have a seat. I'll get you a cup of coffee."

"No need, I have other things to do, so I'll leave now." Rachel smiled and declined. She did have things to do, but she also didn't want to stay here longer.

After all, many people knew she was Michael's ex-wife. If she stayed too long and someone told Mandy, Mandy might come to cause trouble.

Seeing Rachel was determined to leave, David didn't insist and smiled as he escorted her to the elevator.

Rachel said goodbye again, entered the elevator, and then drove away from Smith Corporation.

As she left, a red car parked in her previous spot. As the car door opened, Mandy stepped out, her gaze dark and intense as she looked in the direction Rachel had left, her fists clenched tightly.

The car that just left was Rachel's, as she recognized the license plate. So Rachel came to Smith Corporation? Mandy squinted her eyes, then quickly returned to her usual smiling self and walked into the building.

At the reception, the receptionist greeted her immediately, "Miss Brown, you're here."

Mandy was Michael's fiancée, known to everyone in the company. Moreover, Mandy often came to see Michael, so they had seen her before and recognized her immediately.

Mandy smiled. "Is Michael in the company?"

"Yes, he doesn't have any external appointments today," The receptionist replied.

Mandy acknowledged and thanked her gently, "I see, thank you."

"You're welcome, Miss Brown." The receptionist replied.

Mandy's eyes flickered slightly, and she asked, "By the way, the lady who just left..."

The receptionist asked, "Do you mean Ms. Williams?"

"Yes, what was she here for?" Mandy lowered her eyes, hiding the coldness in them.
