Chapter 193
Upon hearing that it was from Rachel, Michael's expression changed instantly.
"From Rachel?" Michael tightened his grip on the pen, a hint of joy in his eyes.
Seeing this, David immediately handed over the gift box and pretended to ask, "Mr. Smith, do you want these? If not, I'll send them to the finance department."
He didn't believe Michael would agree.
"Just put it aside." Michael lifted his chin slightly and said indifferently.
Sure enough, David nodded with a suppressed smile. "Okay."
He guessed right, Michael would indeed keep it. Michael was very happy but still pretended to be calm. Why bother?
After putting down the skincare products, David was about to leave when his phone rang in his pocket. He took it out and saw it was a call from the front desk. "Mr. Smith, I need to take this call." Michael responded, but his gaze remained on the pile of skincare products, his gaze quite gentle.
David can't help but think, 'If I weren't here, Mr. Smith would definitely be looking them over now!'
After answering the call, David put down his phone in less than two minutes. "Mr. Smith, Miss Brown is here."
Michael frowned. "What is she here for?"
"Not sure, but it might be about your injury." David glanced at his wheelchair.
Michael rubbed his temples. "Let her come up."
"Okay." David picked up his phone again to relay the instructions.
Soon, Mandy came upstairs.
"Michael, I heard you hurt your foot. What happened?" Mandy asked anxiously as soon as she entered.
Michael took a sip of his coffee. "Just a little accident."
"Really?" Mandy looked at his foot, full of concern. "What kind of accident?"
Michael put down his coffee and replied, "It's just a sprain, nothing serious. Don't worry."
"I was so scared when I heard you were hurt. I have to see how bad it is." With that, Mandy squatted down, trying to lift Michael's pant leg to check.
Seeing this, Michael frowned and directly pushed her away. Mandy, caught off guard, fell to the ground and sat there in a daze, staring up at him.
"Michael." Mandy bit her lip, looking aggrieved.
Michael realized his behavior was a bit too much and felt a bit guilty. He reached out to pull her up. "Sorry Mandy, I didn't mean to. I just don't like people touching me randomly."
David rolled his eyes but said nothing.
"It's okay." Mandy forced a smile. "I got too carried away trying to check your injury and didn't think about how you felt. Michael, please don't be mad at me."
Michael responded, "It's okay, I'm not mad at you. It's just a minor injury; it'll heal in a few days. No need to worry."
He gave David a look. David cleared his throat and said, "Miss Brown, the doctor also said Mr. Smith's injury is not serious."
"In that case, I'm relieved." Mandy patted her chest.
"Mr. Smith, I'll be going now." David adjusted his glasses and said to Michael.
Michael nodded. "Go ahead."
"Take your time chatting." With that, David turned and left.
The office was left with just Mandy and Michael. Mandy's eyes wandered and suddenly saw a box with the Lumina Timepieces logo on the desk.
"What's in here?" she asked curiously, picking it up.
Michael didn't have time to stop her before she opened the box.
"Wow, these are the new couple's watches from Lumina Timepieces!" Mandy exclaimed, looking at the two watches. "Michael, when did you get these? I tried to buy them before so we could match, but they were sold out. I can't believe you managed to get them!"
As she spoke, she took out the ladies' watch, intending to put it on her wrist. Michael directly took it from her. "This isn't for you."
Mandy's smile froze, and seeing him put the ladies' watch back in the box, her face turned sour.
"Then who is it for?" She tried to keep her anger in check, making an effort to sound natural.
Michael instinctively wanted to say it was for Rachel but held back, surprising himself. Then he reassured himself that they got these watches after a dangerous ordeal together, so it made perfect sense to give the ladies' watch to her.
Thinking this, he calmed down and said indifferently, "I bought it for a friend, so don't wear it. If you want, I'll buy you another one."
"Oh, I see." Mandy noticed his seriousness, and her anger melted away, replaced by a smile. "But you should have gotten one for us too," Mandy said, clinging to his arm and pouting playfully.
Michael subtly withdrew his arm. "I didn't think of that."
"Alright, I forgive you." Mandy said with a smile.
Michael closed the watch box and gently put it in the drawer. Mandy saw this but didn't think much of it, just feeling it was normal to be gentle with a friend's item.
Meanwhile, Rachel heard from Lily that the care products had been delivered. Relieved, she felt that repaying Michael's favor meant she no longer owed him anything.
Regarding the other times he saved her, it was because Mandy intended to harm her. As Mandy's fiancé, it made sense for him to protect Rachel.
"Rachel." John's voice came from the office door.
Rachel looked up and smiled. "Why are you here?"
"Of course, to accompany you for the surgery. You didn't forget, did you?" John walked over and sat down, looking at her desk. "You're not done yet?"
"Busy with things for the day after tomorrow." Rachel replied while flipping through a folder.
John was about to ask if she needed help when he saw the invitation on the desk. He picked it up and asked, "Rachel, you got an invitation to the auction too?"
"Yeah, didn't I tell you?" Rachel looked up at him.
John pouted. "Of course not. If you had, would I be asking?"
Rachel smiled. "I guess I forgot. By the way, what are you planning to donate?"
"A modern painting, worth a few hundred thousand dollars. What about you?" John put down the invitation and asked.
Rachel stretched. "I was thinking of donating a necklace or something. But all my jewelry from six years ago was taken by my stepmother and her family, and I haven't bought new ones since being with the Smith family. What I have now is just enough for use, nothing extra. So, I'm planning to buy a new necklace to donate."
