Chapter 198
Rachel suspiciously raised her left wrist. "What's wrong with my wrist?"
"How did you get that red mole on your wrist?" Gregory asked, staring at her.
Rachel found it amusing. "Of course, it's natural. How else do you think it came about?" She thought, 'It can't possibly be a made-up red mole, right?'
However, having a red mole is indeed quite rare, as most people have black moles, and very few have red ones.
Listening to Rachel's answer, Gregory's expression didn't change much. Instead, he lowered his head, seemingly deep in thought.
Rachel found him very strange and touched the red mole, asking, "Why are you asking me this?"
Gregory adjusted his glasses and didn't answer. Instead, he asked, "I have another question. Did you ever save a little boy when you were a child?"
"Saved a little boy?" Rachel raised an eyebrow.
Gregory responded noncommittally.
Rachel squinted and thought for a moment. "How young are you talking about?"
"Around ten years old," Gregory replied, looking at her.
Rachel laughed. "I did save one."
Upon hearing this, Gregory's pupils contracted, and he stiffened. He urgently asked, "Where did you save him?"
Rachel found him even stranger, not understanding why he was asking these questions, but she still answered, "In a pond. The little boy was being bullied and thrown in. I happened to pass by and used a stick to pull him out."
Due to standing up too quickly, Gregory knocked over the chair. He took off his glasses and looked at Rachel emotionally, saying, "It really is you!"
Mandy wasn't his savior; it was Rachel standing right in front of him. The irony was that he had been thanking the wrong person all this time and had even come close to killing Rachel by mistake.
"What do you mean?" Rachel was startled by Gregory's excitement and looked confused.
Gregory didn't answer but stepped forward and hugged her tightly.
Rachel, both frightened and suffocating, pushed him away and said in a strained voice, "Let go of me."
Gregory seemed not to hear and continued to hold her.
At this moment, the ward door was pushed open, and John appeared at the door. "Rachel, what's going on? What was that noise just now?"
Before he could finish, he saw the scene in the room and became furious. "Gregory, what are you doing? Let go of my Rachel!" John shouted as he rushed forward.
Hearing the commotion, Joseph quickly followed John into the room. "What's going on? Gregory, how dare you!"
Joseph, together with John, pulled Gregory away. In his fury, John raised his fist and punched Gregory in the face. Joseph then stood in front of Rachel, protecting her completely.
Gregory was knocked to the ground by John's punch, his glasses flying off to the side. John didn't stop. He grabbed Gregory's collar and lifted him up, shouting, "How dare you bully Rachel! You're a doctor with no ethics, attacking patients. I'll kill you!" With that, he raised his fist to hit him again.
"Stop!" Suddenly, Rachel pushed Joseph aside and shouted to stop him.
John's fist was just inches away from Gregory's face when he heard Rachel's words and immediately stopped. Looking at her in disbelief, he said, "Rachel? He bullied you, and you still want to let him go?"
Rachel rubbed her temples. "John, I know you're doing this for me, but you hit him too hard. If you injure him, it won't be good."
"He brought it on himself!" Joseph said, with John nodding in agreement.
Rachel shook her head. "But he's a doctor. If you injure him, what about the patients who need immediate surgery?"
This question stumped both John and Joseph. Gregory deserved to be hit, but the patients were innocent. If Gregory got injured and patients couldn't get timely surgery and died, it would be their indirect fault. Thinking this, even though John was unwilling, he had to let Gregory go.
He threw Gregory back to the ground heavily and snorted, "I'll let you off this time, but if it happens again, you'll regret it!"
Gregory lay on the ground, coughing a few times, and then suddenly started laughing, leaving Rachel and the others bewildered.
Joseph frowned and asked, "What are you laughing at?"
Gregory picked up his broken glasses, put them on, stood up, touched his swollen left cheek, and looked at Rachel with burning eyes, "You are still so kind. Indeed, you are the angel in my heart." He thought, 'When she was ten, she risked her life to save me. Such a kind person couldn't have changed when grown up!'
Rachel looked at the excited Gregory and felt uncomfortable all over. She pursed her lips and asked, "What do you mean by that?"
John and Joseph exchanged glances, clearly confused by Gregory's words.
Gregory was about to speak when his phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, a flash of anger crossed his eyes before he returned to his usual aloof demeanor and answered, "Hello?"
"Gregory, did you succeed?" Mandy's excited and expectant voice came from the phone.
Gregory's eyes narrowed, and a cold smile appeared on his lips. "No."
Mandy's face changed, her voice becoming sharp. "How could you not?"
"I'll explain later. I have patients here." With that, he hung up the phone.
Mandy was so angry she wanted to smash her phone. She thought, 'Gregory is useless. After all this time, he still hasn't succeeded. And he even had the nerve to hang up on me!'
In the ward, Gregory put down his phone and looked at Rachel again.
John and Joseph watched him warily, afraid he might do something to Rachel again.
Fortunately, Gregory acted normally, doing nothing but looking at Rachel and saying, "I will protect you. Just wait, I'll make those who hurt you pay dearly!
The first one would be Mandy. Unfortunately, he always believed Mandy was his benefactor, so he never kept any evidence of her wrongdoing and even helped cover up many of her tracks.
So, using legal means against Mandy was impossible, and with Michael by Mandy's side, he couldn't directly act against her. He could only proceed secretly, step by step.
Thinking this, Gregory's glasses reflected light. He looked at Rachel again and then turned and left.
After he left, John and Joseph both breathed a sigh of relief.
"Oh my god, his look and his words just now were terrifying. I broke out in a cold sweat," John said, rubbing his arms, still shaken.
Joseph nodded. "I feel the same. They say psychologists often have their own issues. Gregory's crazy eyes just now—he's definitely got problems. But that's not the point. Why does he want to protect Rachel?"
