Chapter 166
Michael squinted. "So, did you figure it out? How did Ethan and his family find out their eldest daughter might still be alive?" he asked David.
David adjusted his glasses. "Mrs. Brown overheard the store manager at DT Jewelry talking about a girl who came in with a necklace, asking about it. She guessed that the girl might be her eldest daughter."
Earlier, Rachel had mentioned in Catherine's ward that after finding the necklace, she had asked about it at DT Jewelry.
Since Charlotte often visited DT and had a special status, the store manager usually attended to her personally. So, the manager must have seen her wearing that necklace and told her about Rachel.
The store manager didn't mention Rachel's name, so Charlotte didn't realize it was Rachel who had the necklace, not her eldest daughter as she thought.
Michael waved his hand, signaling David to leave. After David left, he picked up his phone and sent the results to Rachel.
Rachel was discussing dinner plans with John when she heard a notification. She quickly saw it was a message from Michael, confirming that the Brown family was indeed looking for Grace.
Clenching her fist, she said to John, "Something's come up. Let's talk about this later."
"Alright," John agreed.
After hanging up, she replied to Michael: [How are you sure?]
Smith Corporation Headquarters.
Michael leaned back in his chair, arms crossed, staring at his phone. Why hasn't she replied yet? Was she busy with something?
Just as he was thinking this, a new notification appeared on the phone screen. His eyes lit up, and he quickly opened the message.
Seeing it was her response, a slight smile appeared on his lips, and he called her directly.
Rachel, who was waiting for a reply, was startled by the sudden ring of her phone, almost dropping it. Fortunately, it landed on the desk, preventing it from breaking. Relieved, she thought about her recently replaced phone.
"Hello?" Her tone wasn't very pleasant.
Michael noticed this and raised an eyebrow, realizing he might have unintentionally offended her. "I had David investigate," he explained. Then he told her the results of the investigation in detail.
After listening, Rachel raised her eyebrows in realization. "I see." She had thought someone had tipped them off, but it turned out it was her own clues that led to the discovery.
"Got it, thank you for telling me this, Mr. Smith," Rachel expressed her gratitude.
Michael responded lightly, "So, are you planning to find Grace next?"
"Yes, I need to find out the truth no matter what," she replied.
If Rachel really found Grace, she might finally understand why her father had her do all this. But how was she supposed to find Grace?
Thinking about it, Rachel rubbed her temples, sounding tired. "If there's nothing else, I'll hang up now. Bye."
Michael wanted to keep talking but couldn't think of anything to say, so he reluctantly replied, "Alright." After the call ended, Rachel immediately messaged Joseph to meet her outside.
Joseph, upon getting the notification, agreed right away and started frantically searching his wardrobe for the perfect outfit.
But he couldn't find anything he liked. The butler couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Anderson, what exactly are you trying to dress up as?"
"I have no idea," Joseph said, feeling defeated. He just wanted to impress the girl he loved! But no matter what he tried, he wasn't happy with his outfit.
The butler, seemingly catching on, asked, "Are you changing your style to meet someone important? A man or a woman?"
When Joseph gave a clear answer, the butler was thrilled. So Joseph had a crush on someone!
The butler quickly suggested helping pick out a gift. "Do you need to prepare something as a gift? Flowers or other small items?"
Joseph didn't deny it. "A bouquet of flowers will do." After all, he hadn't expressed his feelings to Rachel yet, and he didn't want to be too flashy and risk a negative reaction.
Soon, with the help of a stylist, Joseph showed up in front of a quiet café two hours later, searching around until he spotted Rachel in a corner, engrossed in her electronic device.
Approaching cautiously with a heart full of passion, his nervousness was evident even in his stiff steps. It was hard to stay cool when bringing flowers to meet Rachel.
Joseph stopped in front of Rachel, took a deep breath to calm his nerves, and said softly, "Hello, Ms. Williams."
Rachel looked up, surprised by his outfit. "Why are you dressed like that? This look is hilarious."
The loose jacket, jeans, sneakers, messy hair, and the flowers in his arms made for a bizarre combination that was hard not to laugh at.
"Don't mention it; it's a sad story." Joseph sighed, then handed her the bouquet.
Rachel pointed at herself in surprise. "For me?"
"Yes, do you like them?" Joseph nodded, nervously clenching his fist.
Although the flowers were prepared by the butler, he had specifically chosen white roses. He wanted to give red roses, but given their current relationship, it didn't seem appropriate.
"I like them, but why did you bring me flowers? I thought they were for someone else," Rachel said, feeling flattered as she accepted the flowers.
