Chapter 175
Lily nodded. "Yeah."
Rachel rubbed her temples. "Guess I need to figure out what to donate."
"Don't stress, Ms. Williams. For charity auctions like this, people usually go with jewelry or antiques," Lily suggested.
Rachel smiled. "Alright, I'll donate a piece of jewelry then. By the way, are you free tomorrow? Can you come with me to pick out a dress?"
Tomorrow was the weekend, perfect for a shopping trip.
Lily shook her head reluctantly. "Sorry, Ms. Williams, my mom set me up on a blind date." Lily's eyes showed a hint of helplessness; she clearly didn't want to go on this blind date.
Rachel noticed and suggested, "Why don't you tell your mom you have to work overtime tomorrow?"
"No, I've used that excuse too many times. My mom said if I do it again, she'll make me quit my job. So, I have to go." Lily sighed.
Rachel didn't know how to help her.
Lily said, "Ms. Williams, I'll get back to work now."
"Alright, you go ahead." Rachel nodded with a smile.
After Lily left, Rachel put the invitation back in the drawer and continued with her work.
The next day, Rachel and Ella met at Moda Fusion Studio, a high-end shop known for its dreamy custom dresses loved by young women worldwide.
Rachel stood in front of a row of dresses, carefully selecting, when Ella suddenly found a nice dress and picked it up. "Ms. Williams, how about this one? I think it suits you perfectly."
"Let me see." Rachel turned around to see Ella holding a white off-shoulder long dress.
The dress was simple and elegant, but the shiny fabric was particularly eye-catching. In dim lighting, this dress would definitely be the center of attention.
"Not bad." Rachel didn't hide her liking for it.
Ella handed it to her. "Ms. Williams, why don't you try it on?"
Rachel nodded. "Okay."
Just as she was about to ask a staff member where the fitting room was, a familiar female voice sounded, "Ms. Williams, can you let me have the dress you're holding?"
Rachel frowned, and Ella's expression also turned unhappy. "Ms. Williams, it's Mandy," she said.
"I know," Rachel responded calmly, looking at Mandy and Monica approaching.
Unexpectedly, Monica showed up again. Although her detention period was indeed over, she remained close to Mandy, clearly considering her a friend. However, Monica was quite naive, not realizing that Mandy didn't really care about her.
"You want this dress?" Rachel asked Mandy, holding up the dress.
Mandy nodded. "Yeah, I really like this one. Could you let me have it, Ms. Williams?" She was sincere; she did like the dress very much and also wanted to use this opportunity to suppress Rachel a bit.
"Why should she let you have it?" Ella stepped forward, her tone icy. "We picked it first. Don't you understand first come, first served?"
"So what? Can you afford it?" Monica retorted.
"It is none of your business, but I bet you can't." Rachel looked at Monica coldly.
The Turner family was well-off, but dropping hundreds of thousands on a dress was still a bit much for them. Monica's face turned red with anger and embarrassment.
Ella laughed. "You were acting all high and mighty just now. I thought you were loaded; turns out you're just faking it."
Monica's eyes blazed with fury. Mandy patted her shoulder and smiled at Ella. "Miss White, Monica might not be able to afford it, but I can buy it for her. What about you? Is Ms. Williams buying it for you?"
"I can afford it myself." Ella pulled out a diamond card and waved it around.
Mandy's eyes widened for a second, then she thought, 'A diamond card isn't something just anyone can have; it's typically reserved for billionaires. How could Ella, just the CFO of Skyline Corporation, have one? But regardless of Ella's diamond card, her status remains ordinary.'
Then Mandy turned to Rachel again. "Ms. Williams, are you really not going to let me have it?"
Rachel gave her a cold look. "Out of all these dresses, you insist on this one. Are you not admitting you're trying to snatch it?"
Hearing this sarcastic remark, Mandy's smile faltered for a moment before she regained it. "I really like this dress and hope you can let me have it."
"And if I refuse?" Rachel's gaze was firm.
Ella added, "If we don't give it to you, are you going to kill us?"
"No, but I won't give up." Mandy sneered. In other words, she was determined to get this dress.
Rachel saw that Mandy's goal was to oppose her and prevent her from getting a satisfactory dress. After thinking for a moment, she smiled. "Alright, if you want it, I'll give it to you."
"Ms. Williams?" Ella looked at Rachel in disbelief, while Mandy and Monica looked pleased.
"Thank you, Ms. Williams." Mandy smiled at Rachel.
Rachel smirked. "You're welcome. I just realized this dress isn't quite right. It shortens the legs and widens the hips—perfect for you, Miss Brown."
Ella immediately caught on and quickly agreed, "Yes, Miss Brown, this dress is tailor-made for you." She then took the dress from Rachel and tossed it at Mandy.
Mandy was stunned, holding the dress, feeling awkward. She had to tightly grip the dress, watching Rachel and Ella walk to another row of dresses.
"Mandy, do you still want this dress?" Monica asked cautiously.
Mandy gritted her teeth. "Of course, I worked hard to get it. How can I give it up?"
Although Mandy got the dress, she didn't manage to humiliate Rachel and instead made herself a joke. Now, seeing the dress annoyed her, and she didn't want to wear it anymore. If she wore it, wouldn't she become the short-legged, wide-hipped woman Rachel mentioned?
Taking a deep breath, Mandy handed the dress to Monica and turned to pick out another dress, secretly watching Rachel, filled with resentment. Since Rachel didn't want her to wear that dress, she would also stop Rachel from finding a suitable one.
"Ms. Williams, how about this one?" Ella picked up another dress and handed it to Rachel.
