Chapter 184
Michael lowered his eyes, making it hard to read his emotions. "No, I just want to know what the manager of this restaurant wants to say."
His expression was calm, seemingly not lying.
Rachel nodded, believing his words. "I see."
She thought she might have overthought things earlier. After all, he hated her so much, how could he intentionally make the manager misunderstand that they were a couple?
"But Mr. Smith, why did you agree to participate in this event?" Rachel looked up at Michael.
Michael's thin lips parted slightly. "For Kade, he's Joseph's nephew, and I'm Joseph's friend. It's only right to take care of Kade."
He didn't want her to know that he actually wanted to participate in this event with her. As for why he had such a thought, he wasn't sure himself.
"Alright." Rachel shrugged.
She didn't doubt Michael's words, after all, he and Joseph were indeed good friends, and taking care of a friend's nephew was quite normal.
The two of them held Kade's hands and went to the stage to sign up. Because of their high attractiveness, they immediately caught the attention of the entire restaurant.
After signing up, Rachel and Michael each held one of Kade's hands and stood with four other families, waiting for the event to start.
A woman in her thirties came over, stared at them for a while, and couldn't help but speak, "Ma'am, you and your husband are such a perfect match, you both look so good. I've never seen such a good-looking couple, not even TV stars can compare. No wonder your child is so cute."
Rachel felt a bit uncomfortable with the compliment and explained, "You're flattering us, we're just average, really."
She didn't want to explain that she and Michael were already divorced, so she just forced a response.
"This is average? You must be joking." The woman gave Rachel a sidelong glance.
Rachel's mouth twitched, deciding not to speak further.
Michael suddenly turned to her. "What were you talking about just now?"
Rachel's eyes flickered. "Nothing much, just chatting casually, asking how to play this game."
Of course, she wouldn't tell him that the woman said they were a perfect match. They were divorced, saying such things was meaningless.
Michael could tell she wasn't being truthful, feeling a bit disappointed, but he didn't press further.
Soon, the parent-child activity officially began.
This event had three rounds of games: the first round was passing a card with a kiss, the second round was push-ups, and the third round was a three-legged race.
After each round, some families would be eliminated, and the top three would be determined. The champion would win a limited edition Gundam toy that Kade liked, as well as free meal vouchers from the restaurant. The other families would also receive corresponding rewards, though not as generous as the champion's.
Rachel looked at the game names, her brows furrowing.
"What's wrong?" Michael asked with concern.
Rachel seriously read the rules and replied, "I know the second and third round games, but what does passing a card with a kiss mean?"
Thinking of the word "kiss," she felt a bit resistant.
"Let me guess." Michael rubbed his chin with his thumb, thought for a moment, then shook his head. "Let's ask the manager."
"That's the only way." Rachel nodded in agreement.
If it was really like that, she could request to change the rules.
The manager smiled and explained, "This game is simple. I placed a playing card on the baby's mouth. The mom took it with her mouth and passed it to the dad, who passed it back to the mom, and she finally returned it to the baby. If the card doesn't fall during the process, it's considered successful."
Michael raised an eyebrow slightly.
Rachel nodded. Fortunately, it wasn't a real kiss, but it was still an indirect kiss, making her a bit uncomfortable.
"Manager, can we change the game?" Rachel requested.
Michael suddenly became a bit irritated; he didn't like her resisting contact with him.
"Sorry, ma'am, this game was decided a long time ago, and the props are all prepared. Changing the rules now wouldn't be appropriate and would make our restaurant look unprofessional." The manager smiled apologetically and then left.
Seeing the manager leave, Rachel rubbed her temples, knowing that changing the game was impossible.
Michael suddenly spoke, "If you don't want to play, we can quit."
Rachel blinked, feeling a bit tempted.
Seeing this, Michael's face darkened further. He suggested quitting, and she actually considered it.
Kade then grabbed her hand, pleading, "Mom, I want that Gundam, you can't buy it outside."
Rachel looked at the prize area opposite, sighed at the 1.64-foot Gundam model, then squatted down and smiled at Kade. "Alright, we'll try to get it."
"Thank you, Mom!" Kade happily kissed her on the cheek.
Rachel was stunned by the kiss, touching her face and unable to stand up for a long time.
Michael, looking unhappy, felt even worse seeing this. He reached out and roughly rubbed Kade's face, making Kade look at him with a hurt expression. Kade seized the moment to complain, "Mom, Dad is bullying me."
Rachel came back to her senses, looking at Kade. At that moment, she suddenly wondered, 'When the baby in my belly is born, will they also kiss me like Kade and sweetly call me "Mom"?' Just thinking about it made her feel warm.
