Chapter 195
"Forget it. Mandy was once my angel, and even if she's become a demon, I'll still do whatever she asks." This was a promise he had once made.
Thinking of this, Gregory suppressed his inner shock and nodded lightly. "Got it, I'll arrange it right away."
After the call ended, he put away his phone and walked towards the OB/GYN department.
Soon, Rachel received a notification from the nurse that she could enter the operating room. She stood up and looked at the door of the operating room in front of her but suddenly found it hard to take a step forward.
She thought of Kade, that adorable little boy, whose sweet voice calling her "mom" made her feel the innocence and cuteness of a child. Moreover, she was almost twenty-seven years old, an age when most women were already mothers.
If she had had a marital life with Michael when they first got married, their child would be as old as Kade by now, maybe even cuter.
If she had never experienced motherly love, perhaps she could walk into the operating room without hesitation. But she had felt this emotion, and now she was suddenly reluctant.
Seeing Rachel gently stroking her belly, biting her lip, and hesitating to go in, John stepped forward and asked, "Rachel, is everything okay?"
"Yeah, Rachel, what are you thinking?" Joseph stood up from the side, unwilling to be outdone, and stood on her other side.
Rachel took a deep breath and directly expressed her feelings. "I can't bear to abort this child."
Hearing this, John and Joseph exchanged a glance. John was the first to ask, "What changed your mind?"
Joseph also looked at her with concern.
Rachel lowered her head. "Maybe because I'm reluctant."
"I get it, it's a human life and all, but it's too late to back out now. The procedure is ready; you have to go through with the abortion," Joseph said firmly.
John nodded in agreement. "Rachel, you said you don't love this child, don't want to have a baby with someone you don't know, and don't want your child to be illegitimate. It's better not to bring a child into this world to suffer."
Rachel's hand on her belly slowly tightened, and a bitter smile appeared on her pale face. "You're right; you reminded me. I'll go in now."
Seeing Rachel regain her resolve, John and Joseph both breathed a sigh of relief.
"Okay, we'll wait for you outside," John patted Rachel's shoulder.
Rachel forced a smile and entered the operating room.
Shortly after she went in, a doctor followed by several nurses came in. Joseph looked at the doctor wearing a green surgical cap and mask, his eyes filled with doubt. "This doctor looks familiar."
John shrugged. "Maybe you saw him by chance when we came in."
Joseph nodded and didn't think much of it, sitting back on the waiting chair.
At this moment, the sound of wheels was heard. The two turned their heads and saw David pushing Michael over, their expressions varied.
"Michael, you're here too," Joseph greeted meaningfully.
Michael nodded.
John asked discontentedly, "Michael, what are you doing here?"
Michael glanced at him coldly, ignoring him, and turned to Joseph. "Did Rachel go in?"
"Yes, she just went in," Joseph shrugged.
Michael's hand on the wheelchair unknowingly tightened.
Seeing Michael ignoring him, John became even more furious. "Michael, what do you mean? I'm talking to you!"
Michael frowned but still ignored him.
John felt helpless and simply asked Joseph, "Do you know why he's here?"
"Isn't it obvious? He knows about Rachel's surgery and came to check on her," Joseph pointed to the operating room and explained.
John squinted at Michael. "What does Rachel's surgery have to do with him? It's not his child."
Michael frowned, and Joseph coughed twice to cover up.
In fact, it was Michael's child, but he couldn't say it. "Rachel is his ex-wife after all, it's not strange for him to come and see her."
"After the divorce, he acted like nothing happened, and now he suddenly comes to see Rachel, he must have ulterior motives," John said vigilantly.
Michael still ignored him, lowering his eyes, feeling a mix of emotions.
After the divorce, he had no relationship with Rachel. Once this child was aborted, everything would be completely over. But why did he feel so miserable? Michael clutched his chest, a look of confusion in his eyes.
In the operating room, Rachel was already lying on the operating table, and the nurse injected the anesthetic into her arm. Soon, she fell into a drowsy sleep.
Gregory put on his gloves and glanced at Rachel. She was indeed more beautiful than Mandy, with delicate features. No wonder Mandy was so jealous of her.
"How's the anesthesia?" Gregory asked coldly.
The nurse replied, "As you instructed, we administered only a third of the usual dose of anesthesia. She should wake up in about twenty minutes and start regaining sensation."
Gregory responded, knowing that only a third of the usual dose of anesthesia was enough to make her die in pain.
The nurse asked puzzledly, "Why only use one-third of the anesthesia? What if she wakes up during the surgery?"
"She's allergic to anesthesia, and this is the maximum dose she can handle. I'll finish the surgery as quickly as I can," Gregory interrupted her.
The nurse nodded and asked no more questions.
"Let's start the surgery," Gregory said coldly, his eyes devoid of warmth, causing the nurse beside him to shiver.
The nurse lifted the surgical drape on Rachel's abdomen, and Gregory noticed her hand was on her belly. He frowned. "What happened during the anesthesia? How did you let her move?"
