Chapter 169

But Michael's happiness was short-lived thanks to Joseph's next words. Joseph folded his arms. "So, I'm thinking about going after Rachel. What do you think, Michael?"

Michael's face clouded over. He looked down and replied coldly, "If you want to go for it, just do it. Why ask me?"

Seeing Michael's expression, clearly wanting to object but holding back, a mischievous glint appeared in Joseph's eyes. "Just giving you a heads-up."

"Why bother telling me?" Michael's lips tightened.

Joseph nodded. "Well, Rachel was your wife, after all. Thought you should know. So you won't be too shocked when we're together."

Michael snorted. "You really think you can win her over?"

"As long as I give it my all, I believe I can. When that happens, you'll give us your blessing, right?" Joseph looked at him.

Michael's lips moved as if to offer his blessing, but he couldn't bring himself to say it.

Joseph didn't seem too bothered by this. He knew Michael still had feelings for Rachel. If Michael could bless them right now, that would be weird.

Joseph shoved his hands in his pockets. "Alright, Michael, I've said my piece. You don't mind me going after Rachel, so don't try to stop me later, okay?"

"I won't. It's none of my business," Michael replied coldly.

Joseph grinned. "Good, remember what you said today. If you try to stop me later, don't blame me for being harsh. Now, go find your fiancée. I need to get some tips on how to woo girls. See ya!"

With that, Joseph waved and got into his car. He said all this to make Michael give up on Rachel before he even realized his own feelings for her. This way, even if Michael figured out he liked her later, it would be too late. He'd have to watch her end up with someone else.

Thinking about this, Joseph gave Michael a knowing smile through the window before driving off.

Michael stood there, staring at the car's direction with a grim face, his fists clenched, radiating a cold aura.

Joseph actually fell for Rachel and even announced he'd pursue her. Two months ago, Joseph couldn't have had such feelings for her; they barely interacted.

Michael's heart sank. It was him who pushed Joseph towards Rachel, making them get to know each other better. Now, it had come to this. At that moment, Michael felt a mix of unpleasant emotions.

Just then, Mandy walked up to him and asked softly, "Michael, what are you looking at?"

Michael looked down and responded indifferently, "Nothing."

"Mr. Anderson left?" Mandy asked again. Michael just made a sound in response.

Mandy took his arm and said, "Michael, what did Mr. Anderson talk to you about? You don't look very happy."

"I'm not happy?" Michael's eyes flickered.

Mandy nodded firmly. "Yeah, like something really important got taken from you."

Michael was taken aback. Could it be that he felt down because he thought Joseph was going after Rachel, someone he secretly cared about?

"Michael, what's wrong?" Mandy asked, noticing his changing expression.

Snapping back to reality, Michael closed his eyes to hide his turmoil. "Nothing, you can head back by yourself."

"Aren't you going to see me off?" Mandy asked, surprised.

Michael hesitated. "Sorry, I've got some stuff to handle. Please excuse me." Then he quickly drove off, leaving Mandy fuming.

Michael drove straight to Starglow Valley Estates, determined to talk to Rachel and figure out why he lost control around her and felt so angry when John and Joseph got close. Ignoring the voice inside telling him to stop, he had to get to the bottom of this before it messed up his life even more.

About half an hour later, Michael arrived at his destination. He got out of the car and stared at the building for a while before finally walking inside.

The elevator arrived quickly. Michael stepped out and found Rachel's door open, with John's voice coming from inside, "Honey, can we leave now?"

Michael froze, his determination wavering. At that moment, another voice came from inside, "Alright, let's go." Then Rachel appeared.

Sensing something was off, Rachel looked up and saw Michael standing there, frowning.

"Honey, why aren't we leaving?" John asked curiously, seeing Rachel standing still after closing the door.

Rachel simply replied, "Because Michael is here."

"Where?" Hearing the name, John immediately looked angry. He stepped forward and saw Michael, questioning harshly, "What do you want?"

Michael didn't answer but stared at Rachel, trying to find some clues.

Feeling his gaze, Rachel felt awkward. "Mr. Smith, what can I do for you?"

Originally seeking answers, Michael lost his nerve at the sight before him. Regaining his composure, he said, "I'm here to apologize."

Rachel frowned again.

"What apology? Did you cause trouble for my beloved woman again?" John shouted at Michael.

Michael continued to ignore the noise beside him and spoke the truth to Rachel, "I'm sorry for the misunderstanding Mandy had about you meeting Joseph at the café."

Rachel shook her head and said, "No need to apologize. It doesn't mean anything." She then took John's wrist and said, "Let's get out of here quickly."

"Alright." John happily took her hand and walked towards the elevator.

As they walked past, Rachel turned and said, "Mr. Smith, please don't come by again. It disrupts my life." After saying that, she and John left without looking back.

Michael could only stand quietly in the hallway, watching their figures fade away, a sudden sense of loss welling up in his chest.
