Chapter 47

Rachel squinted at Joseph, her face a mix of doubt and disdain. "So, you told Ella your family's broke and you juggle three jobs a day?" she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Seriously, you missed your calling. You'd totally win an Oscar."

Joseph let out a sigh, looking defeated. "I went to the dealership to get my car fixed, and she thought I was a mechanic. I had no clue she worked for your company. I joked around a bit, and she bought it all. Next thing I know, she's calling me to drive for you."

Rachel's irritation spiked. "Do you think Ella's easy to fool because she's naive? Are you chasing her?"

"That's not fair," Joseph replied, sounding exasperated. "She's the one who always starts the conversation. She's the one chasing me."

Rachel paused, thinking back to her chats with Ella. It did seem like Ella was more into Joseph.

"Ms. Williams, where to?" Joseph asked as he buckled his seatbelt. "This is my first time driving for someone, and in such a crappy car. You're really lucky."

As the car started, he griped about Michael, "The handling sucks. This car is junk. Michael's too cheap. He drives a Maybach and didn't even leave you a decent car after the divorce."

"Why didn't you return my call about what I asked you to do?" Rachel smoothly changed the topic.

"The waiter was fine, and the water was fine. Why would I call you back?" Joseph replied, looking a bit puzzled. "I checked the surveillance from that night. You were stumbling when you came out of the restroom. You just blacked out; you're overthinking it."

Then he asked, curious, "Ms. Williams, you were pretty bold that night. Was that the first time Michael saw you like that?"

Rachel felt a wave of embarrassment and discomfort. She worried Joseph might say something inappropriate, and it turned out he had watched the video, taking advantage of being the boss of the club.

"If the water was fine, then let's leave it at that. Take me to Dreamland Academy. I'm a bit tired, so I'll rest for a while. Wake me when we get there," Rachel said, pretending to sleep to dodge more conversation.

Meanwhile, over at the Brown family residence, Ethan had just heard that Skyline Corporation was planning to buy Blue Sky Ventures. Rachel was scrambling to find the owner of Blue Sky Ventures.

He hadn't expected Rachel to get so capable so fast.

"But no matter how capable she is, Skyline Corporation will still go bankrupt!" Ethan sneered, sending a message to his contacts. This time, he wanted Skyline Corporation to crash and burn. He couldn't wait to take them down and honor his late eldest daughter with the victory.

Just as he gave the order, his computer screen started flashing like crazy. He was about to hit the shutdown button when the screen went back to normal, showing a video window.

The lighting on the other end was good, revealing a person lying on the ground, barely alive, wearing a Moonlight Club uniform, with a pool of blood beneath him.

Ethan was shocked; he hadn't been able to reach this person. How was he now appearing in the video?

The waiter on the ground was groaning in obvious pain. Soon, a tall man wearing a fox mask appeared on screen.

The man walked up to the camera, his terrifying expression meeting Ethan's eyes. He called out, "Mr. Brown."

"Who the hell are you, and how did you hack into my computer?" Ethan demanded, trying to shut down the computer, but it wouldn't budge.

The man in the fox mask chuckled, his voice low and menacing. "Not just your company computer, but your phone and your wife's phone—I can get into them all. I'm here to give you a little warning."

He grabbed the waiter on the ground with his long fingers, not caring about the blood, and slashed a knife across the waiter's neck, making Ethan's stomach churn.

"Mr. Brown, playing little games once is enough. Otherwise, I get very annoyed." The man in the fox mask tossed the dead waiter aside and leaned closer to the camera, his tone chilling. "If you dare to mess with Skyline Corporation or Rachel again, you'll end up like him."

"You!" Ethan's throat tightened, words failing him.

For years, he had people watching Rachel. After she married Michael, she stayed with the Smith family and rarely went out, let alone made friends.

John didn't have the guts to make a move against him. So, who was this guy in the video, and why was he protecting Rachel?

Seeing Ethan's grim expression, the man in the fox mask seemed pleased. He said, "Consider the three hundred million dollars a gift to Rachel. Another 'gift' will be sent to the Brown family soon."

"Goodbye, Mr. Brown." The man, in a good mood, waved at Ethan with his blood-stained hand, looking like the devil himself.

The next second, the video window vanished, revealing the desktop.

Ethan stared at the unchanged screen, feeling like the past few minutes had been a nightmare, but his body was cold. What did he mean by a three-hundred million dollar gift?

Ethan scoffed inwardly, thinking there was no way he would give Rachel money. Then his phone rang—it was the finance department of the Unity Republic branch.

"Mr. Brown, there's a problem," the cashier stammered. "All the money in the account has been transferred out."

Ethan jumped out of his chair. "What! How much?"

The cashier said cautiously, "Three hundred million dollars."

"Why didn't you tell me earlier? You're all useless!" Ethan cursed, shaking with anger, nearly passing out.

The man's methods made Ethan inexplicably fearful because he didn't even know who the enemy was, let alone how to catch him.

Ethan immediately called his subordinate, angrily ordering, "Abort the operation and pull the news. Don't target Skyline Corporation!"

The subordinate asked, "Mr. Brown, didn't you say to inform you once the job was done?"

Ethan yelled, "Do what I just told you! If anything happens to Skyline Corporation, you'll be in trouble too!"

The subordinate immediately answered, "Yes, sir."

Ethan, feeling heartbroken, had just calmed down when the River City branch called.

"Mr. Brown, the accountant transferred two hundred million dollars out. He flew to Luminaria last night," the person on the other end said nervously.

Ethan's vision went black, and he almost spat blood. Didn't the man say three hundred million dollars? Why did he transfer another two hundred million dollars? What a bastard!

Losing several hundred million dollars at once, Ethan's health couldn't take it. His blood pressure spiked, and he collapsed onto the desk before he could say a word.

"Mr. Brown?" The person on the other end of the phone called out. "Mr. Brown, are you listening?"
