Chapter 140
Rachel's eyes narrowed as she sat up and texted back: [Got it.]
She threw on her coat and slipped out of the room quietly. Joseph, Ella, and John emerged from their rooms too, exchanging knowing looks.
John whispered, "James is already downstairs."
"Perfect, let's head down. I've got everything ready." Joseph pulled out a brown bag from behind him, grinning. John and Ella grinned back.
Seeing their excitement, Rachel couldn't help but smile. "Alright, let's go."
They tiptoed downstairs. On the second floor, James was pulling Mandy towards the stairs.
Mandy resisted, shaking off his hand. "James, what do you want? Just say it here." She didn't want to go downstairs with him.
It was clear James didn't like her, so why was he suddenly dragging her out of her room? Something was definitely up.
Mandy's suspicion made James uneasy. But he pressed on, "Mandy, I..." Before he could finish, a hand reached out from behind Mandy, holding a cloth.
James sighed in relief and smiled at her. "Mandy, I just wanted to say take care." He stepped back.
Mandy heard footsteps and was about to turn around when her mouth and nose were covered by the cloth. She smelled something chemical and then everything went black.
"Hurry, she's out; put her in the bag," John urged.
Joseph opened the burlap sack, covered Mandy's head with it, and tied her up with Ella's help. Rachel stood by, smiling as she watched.
"James, go open the door," Joseph said as he lifted Mandy. James nodded and ran to the living room to open the door.
Once the door was open, they sneaked Mandy out. At the stables, Joseph and John dumped the burlap sack on the ground. Rachel stepped forward, unscrewed a water bottle, and poured it over the sack.
Inside, Mandy felt the icy water and woke up with a start. She realized she was in a small, dark space. Feeling the rough fabric, she knew she was in a burlap sack. Furious, Mandy struggled to get out. "James, how dare you team up with Rachel to mess with me?" She wasn't dumb. There were only a few people in the villa. It had to be Rachel's group.
Standing next to Rachel, James whispered, "Rachel, she knows it was me?"
"Anyone with half a brain could figure it out," John said, smacking his head. James angrily kicked at John, but John dodged and ran off.
"Enough," Rachel snapped, stopping them. They quieted down immediately.
Mandy heard their voices and her face twisted in anger. "Alright, Rachel, it really was you who set me up! How dare you do this to me?" Damn it, this sack wouldn't open no matter how hard she struggled!
"Why wouldn't we?" Rachel smirked. "You've tried to frame me several times, so why can't I fight back?"
Mandy was stunned for a moment but quickly regained her arrogance. "Aren't you scared Michael will find out?"
"Why should I care? He means nothing to me," Rachel said, rolling her eyes.
Mandy sneered, "Keep acting tough. When Michael finds out how you treated me, he'll hate you even more."
"So what?" Rachel replied, unfazed.
John scoffed, "Mandy, do you really think that'll get to Rachel? Do you think she still likes Michael? She stopped caring about him ages ago. His opinion means nothing to her."
Mandy's face fell. "That's impossible!" Rachel had loved Michael so much in college, enduring six years of humiliation in the Smith family for him. How could she just stop liking him?
"Believe what you want. Enough talk, let's get to it," John said impatiently.
Mandy's voice trembled with panic. "What are you going to do?"
"You'll see soon enough," Joseph said, rubbing his hands together and chuckling slyly, making Ella roll her eyes.
The group surrounded the sack with Mandy inside and started kicking and punching it. Even though they didn't hit hard, Mandy still felt the pain. But what hurt more was the deep sense of humiliation.
Curled up in the sack, her eyes reddened, she shielded her face with her arms and clenched her teeth to stifle any cries. She would remember this and make them pay one day.
A few minutes later, Rachel called for a stop. John shook his hand. "That felt good!"
"Yeah, it did," James agreed.
Joseph scratched his chin, looking disappointed. "She took it too well. Didn't make a sound, which kinda ruins the fun."
"But we got back at her for Rachel," Ella said.
"True." Joseph nodded.
"Alright, untie the rope and let's go back," Rachel ordered. John bent down to untie the sack.
"Check on her," Rachel said, pointing at Mandy.
John opened the sack, and Joseph turned on his phone's flashlight. They saw Mandy curled up, eyes closed, looking unconscious. Her face and arms were bruised.
Ella squatted down to check her injuries. "Nothing serious, just some minor bruises. She'll be fine in a few days."
Joseph raised an eyebrow. "You know medicine?"
"Not really. I just got injured a lot when I was a bodyguard, so I picked up a few things," Ella said nonchalantly as she stood up.
Rachel looked at her, finding her more mysterious. She had thought Ella was from a prestigious family, especially since she had connections to deal with the Garcia family. But learning that Ella had been a bodyguard contradicted that. Still, as long as she was on her side, it was fine.
"Miss White, you were a bodyguard?" James asked curiously.
Ella glanced at him. "Why? Is that a problem?"
"No, just wondering if you know how to fight," James asked.
Ella nodded. "A bit."
James got excited. "Can you teach me?"
