Chapter 60 Demanding Compensation

Rachel flashed a determined smile, her eyes gleaming. "Easy, call the cops!"

John's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "Rachel, didn't you just say..."

Rachel cut him off with a sharp look. He mimed zipping his lips and went quiet.

Turning back to Michael and Mandy, Rachel continued, "Miss Brown says it was an accident, but we think otherwise. Both sides have their stories, so let's let the police sort it out."

Michael squinted at Rachel, sensing there was more to her plan. Just as he was about to warn Mandy, Mandy chimed in with a sugary voice, "Sure thing."

She smiled, but inside, she was laughing at Rachel for thinking the police would help without any evidence.

Rachel ignored Mandy's mocking look and clapped her hands. "Great, smart choice. John, since Miss Brown's on board, call the cops. And tell them to bring a hypnotist."

John pulled out his phone, puzzled. "Why a hypnotist?"

Michael's eyes locked onto Rachel's face, suspicion growing. He knew she had more up her sleeve than just calling the police.

Mandy's face paled as she realized something was off.

Rachel's smile widened as she looked at Mandy. "To get to the truth, of course. I heard the police sometimes use hypnotists to get stubborn suspects to confess."

John slapped his thigh, excited. "That's genius!"

Rachel nodded, eyes sparkling. "But that's not all. When the hypnosis starts, John, livestream it so everyone can see. If Miss Brown's innocent, we'll drop it. If not, she's going straight to the station."

Rachel feigned confusion, looking at Mandy. "Miss Brown, why are you shaking and sweating? Feeling sick?"

John chimed in, dripping with sarcasm. "Nah, she's not sick, just guilty. The truth's coming out soon."

Mandy bit her lip, panic and fear mixing with her hatred for Rachel. 'Rachel's a devil, bringing in a hypnotist and livestreaming it? She's killing me!'

"Michael," Mandy looked to him for help, her voice trembling.

Michael rubbed his temples, looking tired. Maybe he was wrong to agree to Mandy's plan to hide the truth, leading to this mess.

"Rachel, no need for a hypnosis and a livestream. It'll just make things worse between the Brown family and Skyline Corporation," Michael said, calm but firm.

Rachel's eyes met his, cold and emotionless. "Mr. Smith, by stopping me from hypnotizing Miss Brown and livestreaming, are you admitting she did it on purpose?"

Otherwise, why stop her? It explained everything.

John's voice rose with anger. "Rachel, I think Mr. Smith knew all along Miss Brown did it on purpose and helped cover it up."

Rachel stared at Michael, her voice steady. "Is that true?"

Michael was silent for a long time before finally speaking, his voice low. "Yes."

Rachel's smile widened. "Good!" She clenched her fists so tight her nails dug into her palms, but that pain was nothing compared to what she felt inside. She sneered inwardly, 'This is the man I love, the man I've loved for years. He'd throw away his morals for Mandy. Unbelievable.'

"Today, I finally see who you really are. The sad part is, I wasted six years of my life on you!" Rachel laughed bitterly.

Michael's face darkened, his emotions unreadable. He knew protecting Mandy was wrong, but he couldn't let her go to jail.

"I'll take responsibility for what Mandy did to you, as long as you drop this," Michael said, his voice steady.

John's face turned red with anger, and he raised his fist to punch Michael.

Mandy screamed, her voice high-pitched. "Michael, watch out!"

"John, stop!" Rachel's sharp voice cut through the tension.

John's fist stopped inches from Michael's face, then he reluctantly lowered it, still fuming.

Rachel sighed in relief, her eyes cold as she looked at Michael. "So, how do you plan to take responsibility? If your offer doesn't satisfy me, I won't agree. John, record Mr. Smith's next words so he can't back out later."

"Got it!" John said, turning on the voice recorder on his phone.

Mandy was furious, her voice indignant. "Ms. Williams, Michael isn't someone who lacks integrity. You're underestimating us."

Rachel and John ignored her, treating her like she wasn't even there. Mandy felt humiliated, her face turning red with anger. She was about to argue. "You guys..."

"Enough." Michael raised his hand to silence Mandy, then looked at Rachel, his expression serious. "I'll cover your medical expenses until you're fully recovered. Plus, I'll give you a customs port."

A customs port? Rachel was stunned. This was a big deal. She'd been thinking about finding connections to open a customs port for Wonderworks Technologies' next batch of goods. She hadn't expected Michael to offer one voluntarily.

"That's generous, but it's not enough!" Rachel said, her eyes gleaming with determination.

Mandy bit her lip, feeling indignant. "Ms. Williams, isn't that enough? You're being too greedy!"

John pointed to the bandage on Rachel's head, his voice rising with anger. "Watch your words. What do you mean by greedy? You tried to kill Rachel. Why shouldn't we ask for more?"

Hearing his words, Mandy felt guilty and fell silent.

Michael frowned, his voice low. "What else do you want?"

Rachel's eyes sparkled with determination. "I heard the Brown family wants a piece of land from you for a new development, and you plan to sell it to them cheap."

She flipped her hair, her voice steady. "I believe in fairness. Since Miss Brown did this, she should bear some responsibility. So, give up that piece of land."

"No way!" Mandy panicked, her voice high-pitched. That land was Michael's engagement gift to the Brown family; how could it go to Rachel?

Rachel signaled to John, her voice calm. "Miss Brown, you disagree? Then forget it. John, call the police!"

John immediately unlocked his phone, his fingers moving swiftly.

Mandy was at a loss, and finally, Michael agreed, his voice steady. "Fine, that piece of land is yours."

"Michael?" Mandy grabbed his sleeve, her voice trembling.

He gently patted her hand, his voice calm. "It's okay. There's another piece of land north of the city. It's smaller, but it'll do for Mr. Brown."

Michael turned, his eyes cold as he looked at Rachel. "When we get back to Summit Ridge District, I'll have the contract sent over. I hope you'll honor our agreement and not hold Mandy accountable anymore."
