Chapter 75 I Really Have to Thank You
Rachel clutched her wine glass, her face showing a hint of frostiness. "It's Chloe," she muttered. She didn't have any beef with the Garcia family, just some run-ins with Chloe.
Ella narrowed her eyes, thinking hard. "I figured it was her. But why? Is it because of that spat during the last bridge game?"
Rachel took a small sip of her wine, her face unreadable. "Maybe."
Ella scoffed, "If that's the case, she's being super petty. And Chloe's sticking her nose where it doesn't belong. A Unity Republic elite messing with Summit Ridge District business? Who does she think she is?" She turned to Rachel, "Ms. Williams, I'll make a call."
Rachel nodded. "Go ahead."
Ella stepped away, found a quiet corner, and dialed a number.
"Make it quick!" a raspy voice answered.
Ella rolled her eyes. "Dad, I heard the Garcia family's been too flashy lately, and the higher-ups want the Hernandez family to put them in their place but haven't found a good excuse yet. Is that true?"
"Why do you care?" the voice on the other end sounded annoyed.
"So it is true." Ella lit a cigarette and took a long drag. She smirked, "Well, I've got some good news. Alexander's granddaughter Chloe is in Summit Ridge District, using their influence to mess with the bank business here and giving my boss a hard time. How about using that as a reason to go after the Garcias?"
A spark lit up in the man's eyes. "That's a good angle. Even Alexander didn't dare mess with other districts' business when he was in charge, but his granddaughter crossing the line."
"Exactly, she's practically handing us the ammo." Ella sneered, blowing out smoke rings. Chloe had ticked her off during the last bridge game, and she'd already used some Garcia family dirt for a little payback. Now, Chloe was digging her own grave, dragging her whole family down with her.
Thinking about it, Ella couldn't help but laugh.
"What's so funny? How's the search going?" the man asked, frowning.
Ella wiped the smile off her face and raised her voice. "You said the person was in Pinecrest Valley, but I went there and found nothing. How am I supposed to find him?"
The man was silent for a moment. "Alright, alright, stop yelling. Just find him. Mr. Hernandez doesn't have much time left."
"Got it," Ella replied, annoyed. She ended the call, stubbed out her cigarette, and headed back to the private room.
As she reached the door, she saw the bank managers leaving, with Rachel smiling and seeing them off. But there was a hint of bitterness in that smile, which Ella caught right away.
After the managers left, Ella asked, "Ms. Williams, how did it go?"
Rachel sat back down and sighed deeply, "No luck. They still won't budge, but I got us three more days. We have to repay the loan within three days."
Ella smirked. "That's all we need!"
Rachel looked confused. "What do you mean?"
Ella grinned. "Don't sweat it, Ms. Williams. I promise you, in three days, the bank will back off, and those loans will start flowing again. The Garcia family is about to hit a rough patch."
Seeing Ella's confident look, Rachel's curiosity piqued. "What did you do?"
Ella just smiled, keeping her lips sealed.
Rachel already knew Ella wasn't just anyone. That phone call must've been the key. Realizing this, Rachel stood up and bowed to Ella.
Ella jumped up, surprised. "Ms. Williams, what are you doing?"
Rachel straightened up, a grateful smile on her face. "Ella, I really have to thank you. Without your help, I'd be lost."
Facing a ten billion dollar cash flow crisis at Skyline Corporation, if those banks demanded repayment, she'd have to scramble for the money.
Ella's help not only solved the immediate problem but also earned Rachel's deep gratitude.
Ella waved it off. "Ms. Williams, you're too kind. It's my job to help out."
Rachel chuckled softly, feeling a warmth in her heart.
Ella hesitated, about to say something, but her phone rang. She picked it up, her expression turning serious. "Hello?"
The voice on the other end said, "Ella, we found another place where the target person stayed. Want to check it out?"
Ella replied, "Okay, I'll book a ticket right away."
After hanging up, Ella turned to Rachel. "Ms. Williams, I need to take another leave. Something urgent came up."
Rachel smiled. "Go ahead. When you get back, dinner's on me."
Ella chuckled, "Thanks, Ms. Williams. I'll be off then. I'll arrange for a driver to take you back to Skyline Corporation."
With that, she pocketed her phone and hurried out.
Rachel picked up her fork, took a few bites, and figured the driver should be arriving soon. She got ready to pay the bill and head back to the office.
Just then, the door to the private room across the hall opened, and Michael and David walked out side by side. They both froze when they saw Rachel.
Rachel was just as surprised to see them.
"Hello, Mr. Smith," Rachel greeted coldly.
Michael nodded slightly.
David adjusted his glasses and smiled politely. "Hello, Ms. Williams."
Rachel returned the smile. "Hello, David."
Michael frowned, feeling a bit miffed. Rachel could smile at David but gave him the cold shoulder.
A chill radiated from Michael, making David shiver and instinctively step away.
Rachel had no intention of chatting. After a quick greeting, she headed straight for the elevator. Michael followed her.
The elevator ascended slowly, the three of them standing in silence, the atmosphere heavy. David looked around, feeling awkward. How did these two end up meeting here?
