Chapter 196
The nurse lowered her head and said timidly, "I'm sorry. I didn't notice at the time."
"Aren't you going to take the patient's hand down?" Gregory glanced at her impatiently.
The nurse responded and reached out to take Rachel's hand.
Gregory watched the scene coldly. Suddenly, he noticed a red mole on Rachel's wrist, near the pulse, which made his face change slightly. "Wait a minute!"
The nurse was startled and froze, her hand paused in midair. "What's wrong?"
Gregory didn't speak, quickly put down the scalpel in his hand, and grabbed Rachel's wrist to carefully observe the red mole. He wondered, 'Why does she also have a red mole on her wrist?'
He frowned, gently rubbing the mole with his thumb to confirm if it was real or if something had stained it. But no matter how he rubbed, the mole remained clearly visible, and he could feel its slight bump with his fingertip.
Gregory's heartbeat quickened, and he looked at Rachel with a complex expression. He suddenly realized that her eyes were very similar to the little girl who saved him years ago, and with this red mole, she could very well be that girl.
But Mandy also had such a red mole, and her eyes also resembled that girl's. So who exactly was the girl, Rachel or Mandy?
Gregory's head began to ache, unable to distinguish clearly.
"What's wrong with you?" Seeing Gregory holding the patient's wrist with a confused look, the nurse asked in confusion.
"I'm fine." Gregory closed his eyes and regained his cold expression. "Put away the equipment."
"Put it away? Not doing the surgery?" The nurse blinked in surprise.
"Not for now." Gregory looked at Rachel and said. Until he figured out whether Rachel or Mandy was the girl, he wouldn't act rashly.
If it turned out that the girl was Rachel, he would be repaying a debt of gratitude, but if it was Mandy, he would still have a way to deal with Rachel.
Although the nurse didn't understand why Gregory suddenly stopped the surgery, she was too afraid of this devilish director to ask more questions and silently packed up the equipment.
"By the way," Gregory suddenly remembered something and looked at the nurse coldly, "You can't breathe a word about what just happened, got it?"
Mandy would definitely call to ask about Rachel's condition later, and he didn't want her to know he was questioning the true identity of his benefactor, so he had to warn the nurse.
The nurse was so scared she shivered and nodded repeatedly. "Don't worry; I won't say anything."
Seeing her so frightened, Gregory nodded in satisfaction. "Alright, tidy up the patient and send her to a private room." With that, he took off his gloves and left the operating room.
Outside, three men stood separately, and as soon as they heard the door open, they immediately gathered around.
"Doctor, how is Rachel?" John grabbed Gregory's arm and asked anxiously.
Gregory frowned and pulled his arm back. "She's fine."
"That's great." John breathed a sigh of relief and smiled happily.
Joseph also patted his chest, finally feeling at ease.
Michael, however, frowned and stared at Gregory. "How come you're the one performing her surgery?"
"The chief surgeon had an emergency, and I happened to be available, so I filled in." Gregory took off his mask, revealing his handsome face. "But what about you? Are you here to accompany your ex-wife for surgery? Does Mandy know?"
Michael tightened his brows. "I was just passing by. If you want to tell Mandy, go ahead."
"I'm not that bored." Gregory smiled and put on his glasses.
If it weren't for discovering the red mole, he would have told Mandy. But now that Mandy's identity was still uncertain, he certainly wouldn't say anything.
"Gregory? You're Gregory!" Joseph suddenly recognized him. "I thought you looked familiar; turns out it's you."
Gregory was also in the same field, but he was reclusive and rarely interacted with others. Six years ago, when Mandy fell into a vegetative state, he even went abroad for advanced studies in an attempt to cure her.
Joseph thought, 'Since Gregory is close to Mandy, would he harm Rachel during the surgery?'
Joseph stared at Gregory seriously. "Where's Rachel? Did you do anything to her?"
"What could I do to her?" Gregory asked with a smile.
"You're Mandy's person. You might harm Rachel for Mandy, like not stitching her up properly or leaving surgical tools inside as revenge!" Joseph clenched his fists and said vigilantly.
"What? You're Mandy's person!" John's face changed.
Michael didn't think Gregory would do such a thing, but Gregory was indeed very good to Mandy.
Under their scrutiny, Gregory raised an eyebrow, thinking, 'Rachel sure has quite the charm.'
"Don't worry. I didn't do anything to Rachel. She's not in a good condition right now, so the surgery is postponed." Gregory said lazily, the lenses reflecting a glint of light.
"Surgery postponed?" John and Joseph exclaimed simultaneously.
Michael tightened his grip on the wheelchair, feeling a bit of joy.
"We'll talk about it later." Gregory said flatly.
John and Joseph were a bit disappointed but also more worried about Rachel's condition. "What's wrong with Rachel?" John asked anxiously.
Although Michael didn't speak, he was clearly also very nervous.
