Chapter 203

Joseph clutched his stomach, laughing so hard he doubled over. The thought of Michael as Rachel described him—middle-aged, bald, and gross—was just too much.

Rachel looked at Joseph, who was almost out of breath from laughing, and said, "Why are you laughing so hard? Did I say something wrong?"

"No, no." Joseph waved his hand, trying hard to suppress his laughter. "You're absolutely right. He might already be fifty, balding in the middle, with a big belly, squinty little eyes, just utterly hideous."

Hearing his description, Rachel shivered and quickly stopped him. "Alright, stop it. That's disgusting!"

She admitted she was someone who cared about appearances and couldn't stand having any contact with such a man. Even though it had been a long time, she still felt disgusted.

"Alright, alright, I won't say anymore." Joseph laughed, rubbing his sore cheeks, nodding repeatedly.

Rachel pouted. "I really don't get how you became friends with him. He's not really on your level."

"Didn't I tell you? We're just acquaintances." Joseph shrugged.

At this moment, John came back after finishing his phone call.

Rachel looked at him. "What did Robert say?"

"He said he's already here and will join tonight's auction. We'll meet at the banquet afterward." John put his phone back in his pocket and answered.

Rachel nodded. "That's good, but didn't we agree to pick him up at the airport when he arrived?"

"His flight was delayed by half an hour. If we went to pick him up, we would definitely be late. So he decided to come directly. Rachel, let's go inside." John said gently.

Rachel responded, and the three of them walked towards the hotel entrance, smoothly entering the auction venue.

Rachel and John's seats were in the back row, while Joseph's was in the front row, so they sat separately.

Rachel sat down and suddenly felt someone staring at her. She stiffened and looked around but saw no one. When the feeling disappeared, she stopped searching.

In a private room on the second floor of the auction, David pushed the door open and came in. Michael left the window and sat back on the sofa with a cane.

"What's up?" Michael picked up an auction catalog and casually flipped through it.

David stood behind him. "Mr. Smith, the Brown family wants to come into the private room to greet you."

"No need; we'll meet at the banquet." Michael said indifferently, his eyes still on the catalog.

David nodded and left the room, fully aware that the Browns just wanted to show off. Only those with high status could enter the private rooms. Although the Browns had some influence, they weren't qualified to sit in the private rooms at this auction, which explained their eagerness.

After David left, Michael was about to return to the window when the auction catalog in his hand fell and opened to a certain page.

Michael bent down and immediately recognized the familiar wedding ring—it was his! Although it was a woman's ring, he knew it instantly. The donor information said it was from Rachel, and his mood darkened.

His wedding ring, well-kept in his room, had been donated by her for auction. This betrayal made him furious. He stood up, walked to the window, and stared down at Rachel, his eyes growing darker.

Rachel felt that hostile gaze on her again and grew uneasy.

Seeing her discomfort, John, sitting nearby, asked, "Rachel, what's wrong?"

Rachel shook her head. "Nothing. I'm going to the restroom."

There was nothing in the auction that interested her, so she left.

"Alright, come back soon." John nodded.

Rachel went to the restroom and, after washing her hands, heard a toilet flush. She turned and saw a stall door open in the mirror.

Mandy walked out, their eyes meeting in the reflection.

Clearly surprised to see her, Mandy quickly masked her shock with a forced smile. "Ms. Williams, what a coincidence."

"It is quite a coincidence." Rachel responded coldly.

Mandy's eyes darkened, and she walked over, finding the soap dispenser empty. She looked at Rachel. "Ms. Williams, can I borrow your soap?"

"No." Rachel flatly refused, not stopping her hand-drying motion.

Seeing Rachel's blatant disrespect, Mandy was furious and shoved Rachel aside, taking her place at the sink.

Rachel almost fell but steadied herself by grabbing the edge of the sink.

"Sorry, Ms. Williams, it was unintentional. You don't mind, do you?" Mandy apologized insincerely, her eyes full of malice.

Rachel looked at her coldly, then suddenly raised her bag and smashed it hard on Mandy's head. Mandy, caught off guard, had her hair messed up, makeup smeared, and her head hurt.

"Rachel, how dare you hit me!" Mandy was full of resentment.

Rachel pulled out a tissue and calmly wiped the marks off her bag. "Sorry, Miss Brown, it was unintentional. I'm sure you won't mind."

The familiar words made Mandy's face flush, looking utterly ridiculous. She had just said those exact words to Rachel, now echoed back at her verbatim. It was clearly a humiliation!
