Chapter 70 Fear of Pregnancy

"Just send me the address, and I'll mail you some meds," Rachel said, sounding determined.

Robert grinned, "Sure thing, Rachel."

"Hey, I need to ask you something," Rachel added, her tone softening as she saw him agree.

Robert kept his gentle smile. "Shoot, Rachel."

Rachel's brow furrowed a bit. "Remember I told you about Mandy hurting me before?"

John, who was driving, perked up his ears.

A flicker of alert crossed Robert's eyes, but he kept smiling. "Yeah, I remember. What's going on?"

Rachel got straight to the point, "Mandy went missing for a bit tonight and now she's in the hospital. Robert, be real with me, did you have anything to do with this?"

Robert's smile didn't falter. "No way, I'm miles away from Summit Ridge District. How could I have done that? Why would you think it was me?"

"Michael mentioned it, and I thought maybe it was you," Rachel admitted, awkwardly tugging at her lip. "Sorry, Robert, I shouldn't have doubted you."

Robert's voice was gentle, "It's all good, I get it. Mr. Smith's questions can make anyone suspicious, but I swear, it wasn't me."

Rachel smiled. "I believe you."

John, listening in, couldn't help but admire Robert. His usual calm and classy vibe made him seem so trustworthy, easily convincing Rachel.

But John wasn't fooled. He knew Robert's true identity and was pretty sure this was his doing. Still, he had to admit, it was a slick move.

After chatting a bit more, Rachel hung up.

"Since it wasn't Robert, I'm relieved. Michael can't touch him now," Rachel said happily.

John just smiled, keeping his thoughts to himself.

"Pull over," Rachel said, pointing to a big pharmacy up ahead.

John stopped the car and asked, "You really gonna buy him medicine?"

Rachel nodded, "Yep, you wait here. I'll be quick."

John waved her off, "Go on, go on."

Rachel walked into the pharmacy, grabbed a basket, and started picking out various cold meds and immune boosters. Robert was always traveling for shoots, so he needed stuff to keep him healthy.

As she headed to the checkout, her eyes landed on the contraceptives. She froze, remembering that night they didn't use protection. Could she be pregnant?

Trying not to panic, Rachel called over a store clerk, "Excuse me."

"How can I help you?" the clerk asked with a smile.

Rachel pointed to the emergency contraceptives. "Is it still effective if taken a few days later?"

"How long has it been?" the clerk asked.

Rachel already knew the answer but still hoped, "Almost half a month."

The clerk shook her head, "Sorry, that's too long. It won't work."

Rachel gripped the basket handle tighter. "Can I find out if I'm pregnant after half a month?"

The clerk replied, "No, it takes at least a month."

Rachel forced a smile. "Got it, thanks."

The clerk smiled back. "You're welcome."

After the clerk left, Rachel stared at the contraceptives for a moment before heading to the checkout.

John saw her come out, got out of the car to take the bag, and wanted to ask why it took so long, but seeing her downcast face, he held back.

"Rachel, what's up?" John asked, not really caring what she bought.

Rachel shook her head without answering and got into the car.

John paused for a moment, got back in the driver's seat, tossed the bag into the back, buckled his seatbelt, and looked at Rachel. "Rachel, were you bullied?"

"No, just remembered something troubling," Rachel replied, leaning back in her seat and pinching her nose, looking irritated. Forgetting to take something as important as contraceptives, now thinking about it, it was too late. She wondered, 'What if I am really pregnant?'

John suggested, "What's bothering you? Tell me, maybe I can help."

Rachel weakly waved her hand, "Forget it, you can't help. Just leave me alone. Drive, I'm tired."

John shrugged, stopped asking, and started the car. Half an hour later, they arrived at Starglow Valley Estates. Rachel got out with the bag, said goodbye to John, and walked in.

Back at home, she washed up, dried her hair casually, and went to bed.

The next morning, Rachel was still dreaming when she was awakened by a series of urgent and violent knocks on the door.

The noise outside conveyed a palpable sense of anger. The knocking was so loud, she could feel the door shaking even in her bedroom. It seemed like the intruder would break in at any second.

Rachel's face darkened. She threw off the covers, hastily tidied her hair, put on slippers, and walked out of the bedroom, intending to see who it was.

But before that, she detoured to the kitchen, grabbed a sharp kitchen knife, and cautiously approached the front door.

As she reached the door, the argument outside became clear.

"Mom, what are you doing? Stop it!" James hurriedly grabbed Emily's hand, which was pounding on the door, trying to stop her.

Emily looked furious, shouting, "Why are you stopping me? Let go! I must teach her a lesson today."

James frowned, looking youthful. "This is between Rachel and Mandy; why are you getting involved?"

Emily snorted, "Why can't I? Mandy is my future daughter-in-law. How can I stand by while she is wronged?"

With that, she shook off James and resumed pounding on the door, shouting, "Rachel, you have the guts to bully Mandy but not to face me? Open the door, I know you're in there..."

Before she could finish, the door suddenly opened, causing Emily to stumble forward, losing her balance.

Seeing this, Rachel's eyes flashed with disgust. She let go of the door handle and stepped back a few paces to avoid her.

Emily's plump body fell heavily to the ground, right in front of Rachel, groaning in pain. James stood outside, dumbfounded.

Rachel looked down at Emily, a mocking smile on her lips, "Mrs. Smith, kneeling to me? I can't accept that. Get up quickly!"

She pretended to reach out to help Emily.

"Get away, I don't need your help!" Emily shouted. Her eyes were blazing with anger as she rudely pushed Rachel away.
