Chapter 122 There's No Rush
About half an hour later, David finally showed up. Michael opened the door and said, "Come on in." He then headed towards the living room.
David froze, then curled his lips. If he remembered right, this was Rachel's place. Why was Michael acting like he owned it, casually changing clothes inside? Despite his curiosity, David didn't ask and stepped inside.
"Did you bring the clothes?" Michael asked.
David handed over the bag he was carrying. "Yep, here they are."
Michael took the clothes and started changing right away. As he did, David pointed to another bag he was holding. "What about breakfast?"
"Just put it on the table," Michael replied while buttoning up his shirt. He then pointed to the medicine box on the coffee table. "And take the medicine back with you."
David nodded and quickly did as he was told. Before leaving, Michael glanced towards the bedroom with a weird look in his eyes.
Not long after they left, Rachel came out of the bedroom, yawning. She looked around and noticed Michael was gone, the medicine box was missing, and there was a takeout bag on the table.
Curious, she walked over and opened it, finding her favorite Daybreak Diner breakfast set. 'This guy is pretty thoughtful. Since breakfast is right here, I'd be dumb not to eat it,' she thought.
After breakfast, she changed clothes, grabbed her new bag, and rushed to the office. She had just walked in and hadn't even said hi to John when her phone rang urgently. It was a call from the police station.
An officer asked, "Is this Ms. Williams?"
Rachel replied, "Yes, it's me."
The officer delivered the news that made Rachel furious. "We regret to inform you that we have to close the case of Miss Brown pushing you down the stairs early."
Hearing this, she instantly became livid and exclaimed, "What's going on? You haven't even collected all the evidence, and you're closing the case?"
Seeing Rachel's emotional outburst, John grew anxious. "What's happening, Rachel?"
Ignoring John, Rachel focused on questioning the officer about the hasty decision. "How can this be? There are still so many unresolved doubts! Are you not pursuing legal responsibility just because she has a mental disorder?"
The officer explained helplessly, "Unfortunately, the law has many restrictions on cases involving individuals with mental disorders."
After hanging up, Rachel felt deflated and listless. Seeing this, John immediately stepped forward to ask what had happened. After hearing the details, John angrily slammed the table in frustration and suggested confronting Mandy.
But Rachel, being the more level-headed one, decided to handle the tricky situation calmly. She said firmly, "I should've known he'd do this to protect Mandy from punishment. But we're not pushovers. One day, I'll make him pay!"
Just then, Lily walked in to report that several subsidiaries of the Smith family were seeking cooperation. Already in a foul mood, both Rachel and John felt even more frustrated, especially when they heard it might be a form of compensation.
Despite her anger, Rachel ultimately decided to accept the cooperation, as Skyline Corporation was in urgent need of resources. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself.
"We need to use this opportunity to grow. As for revenge, we can handle that later. No rush!" she said, her voice firm. Cooperation was one thing, and revenge was another. They didn't clash.
John nodded, getting her point. He gave her an appreciative smile and said, "Rachel, you're a genius."
Rachel smiled. "Alright, let's go meet those managers."
"Okay." John nodded and stood up.
Two hours later, Rachel and John saw off several managers. Because Michael was trying to make up for things, the deal naturally worked out in Rachel's favor. So, Rachel and the managers smoothly signed the cooperation agreement.
Upon hearing the news, David immediately informed Michael. Michael's furrowed brow relaxed. "Got it." Rachel accepted the cooperation. It seemed she was no longer fixated on Mandy pushing her down the stairs. With this thought, he felt relieved.
Michael asked, "By the way, any news on whose child Rachel is carrying?"
David shook his head, "No. Ms. Williams seems indifferent to her pregnancy and hasn't mentioned it to anyone, including Mr. Davis." So the people he arranged couldn't find out whose child Rachel was carrying.
Michael pursed his lips and fell silent. David observed his expression and suggested, "Mr. Smith, should we leak some information to Mr. Davis and have him ask Ms. Williams? Maybe we can find out."
A hint of interest flashed in Michael's eyes, but he ultimately shook his head. "No, let's wait a bit longer."
"Yes." David nodded.
Meanwhile, at Skyline Corporation, the news that Rachel secured cooperation with several subsidiaries of Smith Corporation had spread throughout the company. Some were happy, while others were troubled.
In the CEO's office, Frank looked seriously pissed and asked sternly, "Have you figured out how Rachel secured the cooperation with Smith Corporation?"
His secretary answered cautiously, "Sorry, Mr. Roberts, we haven't nailed down the specifics yet. It seems to be a private matter between Ms. Williams and Mr. Smith, so it's tough for us to dig into."
"Private matter?" Frank squinted, suspicion growing.
A bold board member chimed in, "Could it be that they have some romantic entanglement?"
Frank's face darkened even more. "If that's the case, then Rachel's chances of getting the new energy project are even higher," he muttered, frustration clear in his voice. He felt a strong sense of crisis. If Rachel really got the new energy project, his power as the CEO would take a serious hit.
Thinking about this, Frank clenched his fists and instructed his secretary, "Check right away if there's anything fishy going on between them. If there is, let the Brown family know."
A glint of understanding flashed in the board member's eyes. He asked, "Mr. Roberts, are you planning to use the Brown family to suppress Rachel?"
Frank sighed. "With Mr. Smith backing Rachel, she might actually win that bet. To stop her, we need to get the Brown family involved."
"Exactly," the board member agreed, nodding. "Right now, Miss Brown is Mr. Smith's fiancée. If Rachel causes any trouble, the Browns won't sit idly by. Rachel won't be able to count on Mr. Smith to secure the new energy project."
"Precisely," Frank said, tapping the table with a satisfied look in his eyes.
At that moment, there was a knock on the door. Frank frowned impatiently. "Come in."
Lily walked in and said to him, "Mr. Roberts, Ms. Williams has invited you to a meeting in the conference room."
"A meeting?" Frank sneered, "What meeting?"
"It's about the cooperation Ms. Williams just secured," Lily replied.
Frank's expression soured, his voice turning cold. "Got it, I'll be there soon."
"Alright," Lily said, closing the door behind her.
Ten minutes later, Frank, along with the board members, arrived at the conference room. Just outside the door, they ran into Rachel and John.
Rachel nodded slightly. "Mr. Roberts."
"Congratulations, Ms. Williams, on securing several more deals. Impressive," Frank said sarcastically.
Rachel flipped her hair and replied faintly, "Mr. Roberts, you're too kind."
"Not at all, it's not an exaggeration. After all, being able to get benefits from your ex-husband after a divorce is quite impressive," Frank mocked.
Rachel's face turned grim. John clenched his fists. "You bastard, what are you saying?"
"John." Rachel grabbed his arm, trying to calm him down.
Seeing John being held back, Frank felt emboldened and continued to mock, "Mr. Davis, your girlfriend is still tangled up with her ex-husband, and you're acting like it's no big deal. Truly magnanimous."
John was livid. "You..."
"John!" Rachel pulled John back with both hands, her voice urgent. "Don't be impulsive."
"He's talking nonsense!" John glared angrily at Frank, his voice shaking with rage.
"I know, but hitting him won't solve anything," Rachel said softly, releasing John and stepping in front of him to face Frank. Her eyes narrowed coldly as she asked, "Mr. Roberts, do you think I secured these deals because of Michael?"
"Isn't it? Who else could secure several cooperations at once? If not for Mr. Smith, what else could you rely on? I bet you're planning to use this method to get the new energy project next," Frank sneered.
Rachel clenched her fists, her face calm. "So that's how you see me, Mr. Roberts."
"Unless you haven't done it, the truth will come out eventually. I understand you want to secure more deals, but your methods are despicable. Do you realize that doing this will only escalate the conflict between Skyline Corporation and TriStar Corporation?" Frank stared at her, his voice dripping with contempt.
Rachel sneered, folding her arms. "The conflict between Skyline Corporation and TriStar Corporation is already beyond repair. These deals are actually Michael's way of compensating for Mandy's mistake. Do you think the Brown family doesn't know?"
Hearing this, Frank was stunned, his eyes widening. "What do you mean?"
Rachel gave him a cold glance, pushed open the conference room door, and walked in. As he passed Frank, John said disdainfully, "You didn't even know how these deals were secured and suspected Rachel of using improper means. Now you realize you were wrong, feeling awkward, aren't you?"
After saying that, John ignored Frank and entered the conference room. Frank stood there alone, his face looking grim.
The meeting lasted a long time, focusing on these cooperations. These deals involved all of Skyline Corporation's industries, and everyone was seriously considering how to restart them.
It wasn't until dusk that all the plans were finalized. With the arrival of funds from Smith Corporation's subsidiaries, Skyline Corporation's stalled industries could resume operations, enabling the company to avoid bankruptcy and achieve stable development.
Although Rachel despised Michael for protecting Mandy, she had to admit that this time Michael indeed helped Skyline Corporation. But that didn't mean she would let this matter go.
